Intel to launch 6 core Coffee Lake-S CPUs & Z370 chipset 5 October 2017

You've got this all wrong mate, buy ryzen and be happy like the rest of us......

How can I have it wrong? I've got a 4770, and an R5 1600, and a 3770, and a 4770T, I forget... too many to list. Which reminds me I need to have another clear out at some point. :)

Just about everything you type is wrong. Go back about 3 pages, when you attempted to pull me up about a 6 core seeing off every quad core for the 10 years. But now one day later Gavin has changed his mind. Less than a day Gavin.

Isn't that 6 core at like 4.5ghz? Get ryzen to 4.5ghz and I'd expect that to see off quads lol.

Please give examples of this "everything"
As I've said so far we've had 1700 is as fast as a 6950x, ryzen has kabylake IPC. Yet i talk rubbish??

Can we change the name of this thread to the ryzen circle jerk?

Come on now Gavin. Knock the crap off. If you expected the hex core to beat the quad you wouldnt have had a pop would you.

I think you have short term memory issues.
I'm keeping my am4 board just in case AMD manage to get decent clock speeds out of the 7nm zen.
A 5ghz 8+ cores would be a very nice chip.
As it stands, 3.8-4.0 doesn't cut it.

Why does intel need to change the memory controller? From what I've seen intel isnt gimped by memory and has no issues hitting +3600mhz speeds.

Come on lads lets just agree to disagree here and move on, we know info is slow coming, lets speculate about the Coffee Lake product rather than Ryzen vs core counts on intel chips etc.

So realisticly, what are our expectations with 8700k?

I'll start off by saying i dont expect it to clock as high as the 7700k, obviously more cores on the same chip size is going to generate more heat no?

I expect were all going to need to delid and change the TIM, Intel are scrimping here and its ridiculous.

I expect it to be around the £400 mark at release for a few weeks due to demand and just because.

I expect it will become to go to chip for gamers who stream, IF it can do both effectively at the same time.

Because Intel can make some huge gains in performance Gavin. Enjoy your b0rked Asus board. Please stop quoting me.

Taking into account this seems to be a product born out of panic or pressure from Intel's shareholders I'd say Coffee Lake is probably nothing more than the quad core design with two cores tacked on. If thats the case then fine it finally moves us away 4 ******** core i7s.

If Intel have done a little more than that they could make a bit of bigger jump and Coffee Lake could turn out to be a little more than CoffeeMaker.

If the screens are to be believed then 5.2ghz is possible, without a delid apparently but he is using a custom loop.

Go run >3200mhz on other boards and see how you get on.
I suppose @Ste on his gigabyte board also has faulty hardware. Ask 8pack why he delayed the 3200mhz profile, yep cold boot issues lol.

Faulty board or not, these coffeelakes are going to destroy ryzen in gaming just as the 7700k does now.

Ryzen cannot compete with haswell.

I'll stop quoting you now, let you get on with contributing to this thread. If you could try to do it without bringing ryzen into it that'd also be appreciated.

Probably, October isn't far off so time will tell... if you take through the thread you'll learn nothing - for some reason it's become a 'Reasons Ryzen is better than everything' spam fest...

That will always happen AMD>Intel, Intel >AMD. It is the absence of facts on the ground two weeks out from release.

Each generational release from either camp it happens.

Wait for a User or Reviews thread IMO.

Interesting. News sites assumed the 2018 8-core would be Ice Lake because Intel said Ice Lake would be well under production in 2018. But it does probably make more sense for this to be another spin on 14nm, if they are struggling with 10nm. This means they can get this to market sooner and perhaps release Ice Lake alongside 400-series motherboards.

The Core i5 8400 looks the only reasonable value SKU there.

Yeah that seems like it could offer a level of performance we dont currently have or haven't seen before for the price. It's the best looking chip of the bunch by far.

Someone said they can buy the 8400 for £140 plus VAT from China so UK prices should be a little lower from big retailers.

I dont see no reason for the 8core not to run on the z370 either now. Though this is intel, so........

It's just a few pro-AMD trolls spilling their nonsense in this thread.

My expectations are just a 7700K with 2 extra cores. Coffee Lake is supposedly on a more refined process so I'm expecting it to reach around 4.8 to 5Ghz without delid and it will probably land around the £350 mark price wise.
For gamers it won't change much since the 7700K is already the best you can buy, the 2 extra cores and extra L3 cache (mainly the L3 cache) should make the 8700K slightly faster in some games, that's about it.

Careful. 6 cores are the minimum according to Gavin. I'd edit that post or he'll be on you like a hobo on a ham sandwich.

I would ask why you feel L3 cache is important but I'm not sure it's worth it. What are you at for the l3 200 300 clocks. Can't see how missing two faster states helps.

Wait, yesterday in arguments with me the only think that was important to him was single threaded performance.

Does he have two conflicting arguments going on?
