Intel to launch 6 core Coffee Lake-S CPUs & Z370 chipset 5 October 2017

What are airports like with buying computer parts from abroad?

I was thinking of picking up the 8600k when on holiday outside of eu not sure if they would tax me on the way back in.

No problem at all, a PC is just a big Laptop really, you do need to take it out the bag though which can result in a few strange looks, I practise taking it out, otherwise you can look like a right tw@t, I have a bag that is max size for Easyjet 56x45x25. CPU won't be an issue, technically you should declare it, just carry the plastic holder, if they ask, you were testing it a friends...though won't ask though.

I not going to lie and say I have thought about it. If I did go 1700x I would not buy from any e-tailer that takes the mickey with prices.

We'll see come Thursday?

The 1700/1700X are both bargains. So are X370 motherboards. We're getting fleeced on graphics cards and memory right now.

You mean the mark up by the retailer or the price set by Intel. Does the mark up change for AMD vs Intel?

Yes. They always mark up higher because of greed. tbh it's not looking good for prices here in the UK. While I do want to upgrade, if prices are stupid I'll just buy a new case and just put a slick of paint on my old build to make it new again and wait until we get a real upgrade.(Icelake)

Icelake will be Skylake again. The next chance of a big upgrade is 2020, although Intel have put a chip off for a year so we might have to wait until 2021.

You will have to decide if you walk through the goods to declare door at the airport of not. If they stop you it is a fine and confiscation of items. If they don't stop you then you have successfully evaded tax and committed a crime.

It sounds strong, but that is how it is treated.

You can have up to £390 worth of 'souveniers' so I don't think an 8600K will be an issue. :)

I bet OCUK will be the most expensive. They always are. Will check everywhere before buying. If not I can wait.
They often have "introductory offers" that mean they're priced the same as everywhere else but if you miss the window, yes, chances are they'll be more expensive. *reminisces to 2009 when they saved me ~£50 on my build compared to the biggest competition at the time*

Normally i buy everything from OCUK, as the RMA process is second to none, however nowadays i use google or a PC parts picking website to find bits, often end up making baskets on multiple sites to see which comes out cheapest, occasionally i will just buy all the bits from the various places, especially if they are all offering free shipping which is becoming more and more common now.

a lot of the sites now will RMA fairly quickly too, especially if the product is obviously faulty, i had a GPU recently that wouldnt display anything, bought from a competitor, and had heard a few horror stories about them, however i sent it back and got a refund in a couple of days no probs.

However i will send a message to customer services here to see if theres any deals to be had when spending over £2k on components, as its always nicer to receive everything in one go from the same place rather than dribs and drabs from all over.
