Any indications on what sort of launch this will be in Oct 5th, a 'proper' launch or a paper launch like recent GPU releases

Hmm if the i5-8600K ends up nearly the price of the i7-7700K then maybe it won't be as good as I thought.Speak of the devil, pre-order possible in Switzerland, won't post site, not a competitor I would imagine, no motherboards listed yet.
Note, low VAT here, UK will probably be a bit more.

i7 8700 was £255 but list was taken down.

Chinese Intel 8700K Review

Z370 AORUS Gaming 7 motherboard RGB lights look very cool.
They managed to OC 8700K to 5.2GHz at 1.415V.
Wait for reviews otherwise you might be burnt, don't trust corporations these days. Please let me preorder you beasts!!

The i7-8700K seems specifically positioned to out-perform the R7 1800X at nearly everything (the Ryzen seems to win in a couple of heavily threaded apps but only barely). Coffee Lake will probably force AMD to reduce the price of their 8c/16t offerings since they won't currently have much going for them, but I doubt they'll have to budge their 4c/8t and 6c/12t lines since they'll still be great budget options. Good news for anyone that was considering the R7 1700(X) specifically for the core count though.
You would be surprised how little has changed since 2012 with Intel offerings. With 8700k you will get core bump but single thread performance will be on par with 7700kAnything has to be better than my ageing 3770K
Just based on the reviews being posted in this thread. Nothing official yet but I doubt they are far off.My google skills have failed me, can you link the reviews ?
looked at the Chinese review link and the performance for the 2 extra cores in games looks very underwhelming? Especially surprised at BF1 as its a game I play that seems to want more cores than my 6700k I7 and yet performs worse.
I'm running a 4790K @ 4.6ghz/1.3V on an Asus Z87M-PLUS mobo - my main reason for upgrading to the 8700K is to get an Asus Maximus X Hero if I'm being honest.
Done my Pre-order for my Dad.

Planning mITX (ASUS) so I can hand carry it on Easyjet, but if they are not released, I can just fit the ATX in.
