Intel to launch 6 core Coffee Lake-S CPUs & Z370 chipset 5 October 2017

Hi guys, been lurking on this thread for a while, and decided to sign up.

Anyway, as some of you are aware the 8700k has gone up for sale at certain retailers in the US, predictably it's sold out. However the 8600k is still in stock, and largely seems ignored by people.

I'm wondering whether that's the one to go for, ok you lose out on 6 threads but I don't think it's going to matter. It's up at around $270, I've got a feeling we're gonna find it for sale at around £270 on release.

I'm hoping everyone goes for the 8700k and it'll leave stock of the i5 lol.

8600K is certainly a solid option for gaming. In our experience oc is very solid too. No Ht ofcourse saves on Temps.

I did wonder about that. I know in the past some people have disabled hyper threading on i7's in the hope of overclocking higher. I appreciate you're still under nda but I notice you briefly spoke about stock in this thread, i.e having more motherboards than cpus. Are you able to say whether you have more 8600k than 8700k?

I was going to go for the 8700k (out of habit more than anything) but the more I think about it, I have a feeling this is going to be 2500k all over again. Where the i5 becomes the king of gaming taking in price etc into consideration.

Can't tell if you're face palming me :p

I think we'd be lucky to see it hit 180 with conversion tax and shipping

myself and intel haha-

personally wanting to see if i5 8400/8600k can match B350 Gaming 3/Strix + ryzen 1600+16GB pricing and performance - although getting a £100-110 poud board ...

I don't think you're going to get the new i5 and motherboard cheaper than Ryzen.

At the minute the 1600 is around £190 (just under) and as you know you can pick up a B350 board quite cheaply, say £100 so you're looking at £290.

I honestly can't see the 8600k being under £200 at launch, obviously I've got no inside knowledge at all, but with the high prices (and previous intel launches) stock prices always seems to be artificially high at launch. I reckon it's not going to be too far from £270, and boards likely £130-£200 as there's probably not going to be much choice at release.

true, if 8400 can get its Turbo working well then could be a lime light steal - but getting the £100/20 mobo - knno some of the vendors its high-middle prices boards on launch day :(

I can see something like an Asus Prime Z370 not being too far from that price range. We just have to hope there's no artificially increased prices on release. Going by other hardware etc I'm not feeling too positive.

I wish I knew when they were going on sale, guess I'll be refreshing retailers at midnight tonight, and first thing in the morning too (god I'm pathetic lol)

I'm hoping to get the itx strix and an 8600k.....I can't see too much demand for that combo. I reckon most people are going to be aiming for the 8700k and atx boards.

I've been to that site as well. Not buying a board without a CPU though.

I don't even think I'd buy from that site regardless of stock. They've not got great reviews, and the site looks terrible.

I'm pessimistic but I like to think about problems. Every retailer is great when they're taking you're money but I want to have peace of mind knowing that an issue will get resolved quickly.

Like this the current I5 K series is 259 quid (retail) so I imagine they aren;t going to sell it cheaper because hey they have to get their pound of flesh, I imagine it will be around the 269 mark as per their usual +10 every gen.

Yeah totally agree. Once it inevitably sells out I can see the price shooting over 300 quid, with the i7 over £400 lol.

I think the i7 will be about £100 more. The more I think about it the more I think the i5 is going to be the way to go for a purely gaming rig. Use the price difference on a stronger graphics card.
