Intel to launch 6 core Coffee Lake-S CPUs & Z370 chipset 5 October 2017

How much difference do you think there is between the 8th gen mainstream and the 7800x? Part of me is still tempted to go down that route, more upgrade path too, in the future you could whack an 8 core cpu if you get twitchy feet when the mainstream get 8 core cpus. Whereas with z370 you'll need a new z390 motherboard.

You also don't have to worry about availability either. What's stopping me is spending similar (or even more money) for possibly worse gaming performance. I also wouldn't use any of the features x299 offers.

I don't have a rig at the moment hence why I'm impatient. If I still had one I'd just wait a few months until stock becomes ok.

I keep hesitating over a basket with an x299 build lol. If there was an MATX rog board I think I'd be more tempted. Even an EVGA matx, my last pc was a Micro 2 and 5820k. Sold it to go back to console gaming....

I think a Core i7 8700K will be faster for gaming due to the fact its based on a tried and tested uarch and SKL-X and Ryzen need more optimisation initially.

Oh noes!

Get your orders in early methinks!!

Yep,my CPU is definitely limiting me in my modded FO4 playthough, but again since I don't upgrade my CPU that often,I might hold on and see what the 10NM and 7NM CPUs are like.

The Core i5 8400 will be more dependent on how high it boosts - if the motherboard companies can find a way to make it boost closer to 4GHZ,it will be quite good for certain games like FO4 which Ryzen is relatively weak in for example.

Since I have a mini-ITX rig,I don't like dissembling it all the time, outside sometimes cleaning out the cooler,so probably why I am more patient than most! :p

hopefully intel have fine tuned Boost 2 and 3 for it! :D might be surprised without HT - boost could hold high and across more cores

You guys are going to use all the 8700k for system builds and hardly any for sale on there own. OCUK have done this in the past. It's all about greed.

Oh dear :( you are either not serious, or are a bit emotionally unstable with this launch, im fairly certain you either know or understand that the chips that people like OCUK put into machines are "tray" chips or OEM chips, and are sold in larger quantities than the "Box" chips. The Box chips are generally slower to market as there is more co-ordination required and any delay in the chain can delay the product to shelf (boxes have to be made, coolers etc etc) where as the OEM / Tray chips are slapped in a plastic case and shipped enmasse.

Your posts make you sound like your being victimised by OCUK and other retailers, which is a bit lolworthy...

oh dear not another one:(

Well I have been burned by ocuk a few times, so yeah. I thought retail uses the same chips they sell on there own to customers?

I'll be interested to see the pricing of the delidded and binned 8700ks at 5GHz and 5.1GHz. The equivalents for the 7700K sell (respectively) for £100 and £250 more than the normal retail price but that's overclocking from 4.2GHz. With 4.7GHz as the norm for the 8700k, how much of a premium is an extra 0.3 or 0.4GHz actually worth?

or just marketing hype.
Haha. 'If you don't get your order at our inflated launch day prices, it could be months before you experience the awesome power of more than four cores. Can you take that chance?'

Not going to get into specifics with you, but bought items in the past that were either said new , but plainly used and twice bought item on release day and had said item sold but canceled my order?

If you pre order then you take a gamble. OcUK might get a date for delivery thats turns out to be false. That's not OcUK's fault and risk people take when pre ordering, especially when it comes to a new platform.
Maybe you should do as Dragon says and pre order from several places.

to be honest, as with pretty much any technology, unless you absolutely have to have it first day willywave epeen stylee, its always always best to wait a while for the product to a) come into regular stock at a normal price and b) for any initial issues to be ironed out.

Its why i waited on Ryzen, look at the mess with the memory at release, and look at it now, its a lot more stable, yeah Intel products are not free of issues at release either unfortunately.

Some people dont mind wasting money just to be first with something and can bear to go through all the teething issues, for them i say go for it, but thats just not for me, id rather wait to see the price settle and the initial issues to get sorted, also because i generally upgrade my whole system at once every few years, so i often wait for a new product launch to make the switch.

Im waiting for 8700K reviews, and for stock to normalize and also for any initial problems to get sorted, then i will make the decision to jump on-board.

Seem newegg still has i5 8600k available. I thought the 8600k would be the first ones sold out. Guess not?

Most people that tend to buy immediately are enthusiasts and will likely go for the i7. For gaming my money is on the 8600k. I think after a while it'll be the go to recommendation for any gaming rigs.

However I can see people going for the 8600k in desperation i.e just wanting to buy something if they can't get the 8700k so I reckon both will sell out.

The fact 8pack mentioned they already have more motherboards than cpu's and it's not looking good.

The last hardware launch was Vega and we saw how that went, stock lasted barely an hour when it went on sale.

Totally agree.

I think it's much easier to do that if you already have a pc. Infact if I did I certainly wouldn't be rushing to buy one tomorrow.

I can almost guarantee there'll be a whole host of bios issues etc, as this whole launch seems rushed. Add to that the inevitable price hikes and it doesn't make much sense to jump in straight away if you already have a pc, especially if you game at 4k as the cpu doesn't make much of a difference. Even Ryzen is competitive at 4k.

To be honest being an early adopter for anything is rarely worthwhile, you pay more, and have more issues...

TBH,most enthusiasts here are jumping from perfectly good CPUs and gaming rigs,so I would argue unless your rig is very old or going kaput its more about getting new shiny as quick as possible!! :p
