Intel to launch 6 core Coffee Lake-S CPUs & Z370 chipset 5 October 2017

The NDA lifts at 2pm UK time. I presume sales start simultaneously as selling these things before reviews can be published (let alone digested) would be a bit > : (

To be honest, you can't really lose. If leaked benchmarks are to be believed, the CPU's perform well and are easily overclockable. If for some reason you change your mind after buying, or performance is worse than expected, you could probably sell for a healthy profit on ebay due to the stock shortages.

LOL.

RAM prices are silly atm.

So are GPU prices

I'm interested in seeing if Ryzen has big price drops until the next revision comes in, I'd be interested in getting the 1600 then and upgrading later on while keeping motherboard and RAM. The 8700k looks like it'll be great but I'm thinking quantity will be low with it being slightly rushed n all.

Can't see them having a reason to if Intel have actually confirmed this is a rush job by having such low availability if the rumours are true. Maybe see £10-30 knocked off Ryzen as a big FU to Intel

All I will say is Coffee Lake is very short, like practically zero availability of the K versions. :(
I forsee most who were planning an upgrade just getting a Kaby lake or Ryzen.

The rumours are true

It looks like the rumours of this being nothing more than a glorified “paper” launch might be true then.

Guess I may consider just spending the extra on a 7820x afterall......

Same, I've been toying with the idea for a few weeks waiting on this release. Either that or 1700x.

We don't know if they go on sale tomorrow. All we know is a NDA gets lifted. That could be anything from Intel officially talking about CoffeeMaker to a full release.
As Gibbo is talking about stock problems, it's probably safe to assume that they are geared up for sales to begin or else it wouldn't be worth mentioning at this point.

I've got to say if the stock situation is as bad as being made out, then I doubt the people who have waited since June, then August, then October aren't going to buy one because of a stock shortage that might only last 4 weeks. It's not like the K chips are offering value for money vs. the competition. Simply put if you 'need' and Intel K chip for whatever your reason may be, then you aren't going to buy the alternate brand, or not bother, you will just wait longer, or pay a bit of early adopters tax on it.

I just don't know what to do. For a purely gaming rig I know that Intel mainstream will likely produce the best performance. I remember switching from a 6700k to a 5820k thinking I'd notice an improvement and I didn't, like at all. I imagine the 7820x would be that scenario all over again, no improvement at all with 2 extra cores over the mainstream i7.

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't tempted by Ryzen, but I suffer from buyers remorse, and even if I was only 10fps short on a benchmark, I'd be wishing I had the cpu with better results (as silly as it sounds).

However with my budget, I could build a Ryzen rig that would allow me to use the difference saved and pick up a 1080ti. The sensible part of me realises that a 1700 and 1080ti is going to be better than an i7 and 1080 at higher resolutions

Infact using my intel logic above I even thought about saving even more and going with a 1600, as 8 cores just aren't needed for gaming (by the time they are we'll be 3 or 4 cpu generations forward at least), and we know for certain the 8700k isn't going to be anywhere near the Ryzen 5 in price....Decisions, decisions....

I've had so long to mull over it that I just don't know what to do either. I'm gutted I had to sell my 5930k and RVE.

I have everything apart from CPU / GPU / RAM / MOBO. Have watercooling parts galore from a quality snaffle on ebay and still got my Primo and 32" 1440p Samsung with k95 and scimitar and a new 1200 Hxi PSU. I've literally gone through every combo from 1700, TR, 7900x and still can't choose. Might have to start a thread in the spec a PC bit...

For a gaming system?

RRP is probably going to be a hard enough sell. X99 and AM4 are looking really strong.
But just as @Journey's comment a few minutes ago shows, people have been waiting many months for this release. They will forego all logic around pricing and spend extra on this new shiny platform as they've hyped it up in their minds so much. It's just taking advantage of no stock. But I do completely agree that it will likely be over-priced and there are good alternatives available.

If you do make a thread, I'll be keeping an eye on it. Like a fool I decided to "give up" pc gaming and go with a PS4 Pro. Biggest mistake, but it seemed like a great idea at the time, even though I made a loss on my pc parts, I had cash left over after buying the console.

I just can't deal with the framerates, playing Witcher 3 for example was eye opening, and a reminder of why I preferred pc gaming in the first place.

Not sure if you're aware but retailers (including OCUK) have actually already dropped the prices of Ryzen.

Also it must be really annoying for all the board makers. 'hey look we've made 13 different Z370 boards, even though Z390 will be so much better just so we could get some stock on shelves. Oh wait, you don't have any chips now? Cheers Intel'

I'm not sure. I think people are little smarter than buying a CPU in the hope to turn a profit on it on eBay. Especially one with very limited appeal. But hey, if you think you can make a few quid go for it.

I'd seen a couple of places had but hadn't checked OcUK or the 'other' one. Makes sense though.

I only sold the last rig for deployment, wouldn't have been used for 6 months so it would have been a really expensive but nice looking piece of furniture.
