Intel to launch 6 core Coffee Lake-S CPUs & Z370 chipset 5 October 2017

Reading on the Techpowerup review, the 8400 will only clock to 3.8GHz across all cores, and 4GHz on single thread. They was unable to increase the clock speed to 4GHz across all cores no matter what they did.https://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Intel/Core_i5_8400/17.html

Seems to be a bios 'issue' with the 3.8Ghz on all cores, wonder if it's going to be 'fixed'.
The i5 8400 looks like ridiculously good value otherwise, they really did hit some good price-points with the 8300 and 8400.

Surely binned cpu's should be done after decent stock has arrived?

You'd think so wouldn't you, along with the motherboard/cpu bundles. Seems a bit of an odd way to handle the demand when you know theres a low initial supply. Suppose it means extra profit for OcUK though, as people unwilling to wait will spend the extra to just have it now.

Sure does seem decent value compared to the AMD 1600 on a budget.

Makes me wonder what the i7-8700 currently clocks to across all cores with what was mentioned in regards to the 8400, it states 4.60 GHz Max Turbo Frequency. I can't see any reviews for that chip at the moment.

Most reviews seem to be quoting 4.3GHz all core turbo for the 8700 non-K.

I wouldn't put much weight in TPU's scores, their benches are their strong points, the scores are just fluff to please companies sending review samples.

And yeah, all of the locked Coffee Lakes have higher all core turbos than the stated base frequency. You're only going to be stuck with the base if you're throwing some AVX workloads at it.

8 Pack Memory Range - CLICK HERE!

8 Pack memory should be your ONLY choice your current and latest AMD Ryzen and Intel Coffee Lake & Skylake-X builds, of course we will say this but it truly is the best memory out there and we guarantee Samsung B die which is not only the best overclocking modules on the planet they are also the most compatible and reliable. Even better for your convenience the 8 Pack kits are currently discounted on weekly offer until next Wednesday for your convenience. Its already outselling big brands within OcUK but so it should, it is simply SUPERIOR and the best memory we sell, the only real rival is G.Skill which cost more and offers no extra performance or OC headroom. 8 Pack FTW!!!

What a let down of an effectively paper launch from Intel. No guys, wait, please don't buy AMD. October 5th, October 5th! Announce the release a bit early to keep interest... October 5th!... Then 'Pre-orders only.' What a crock lol.

@gavinh87 If most lines are similar to Z270, then the boards with the quality VRMs should be the ASUS ROG Maximus line, ASRock Taichi and the expensive Fatal1ty and for Gigabyte the Gaming 7 and maybe Gaming 5.

Well the i5-8400 is widely in stock and does seem like an excellent CPU in terms of price/performance. But I do agree, a disappointing launch. Gibbo did warn us yesterday though.

Well, yes, £800 for a 5.2Ghz chip that will make 3fps (made up for effect) difference in games would be stupid, though from previous posts I think you said these chips find their way into business' where those fractions start paying them back. People have the choice so really doesn't matter though does it.

4.9 is so far the minimum OC I have seen in the reviews, for me personally I would roll the dice. I would imagine a fraction of the money into good cooling may be money better spent.

If you dont delid no matter what your cooling your stuck at less than 1.3v to stabilize the OC.

Been checking this thread all day. A bit gutted they're out of stock, price for the 8700k is exactly where I expected but I don't know if I'll go for an i7 this time. I've not seen any benches yet but I don't expect there to be a significant difference to the i5 8600k.

HOW MUCH?????????

Fantastic?? A consumer chipset motherboard costing as much as a X299 motherboard.

Its fantastic but together with the words rip and off!!

Whats happened to the days when a motherboard which cost "only" £100 to £150 was more than enough for a consumer chip??

What the heck are Intel and AMD smoking nowadays??

At this rate a B series motherboard will be like £150.
