Intel to launch 6 core Coffee Lake-S CPUs & Z370 chipset 5 October 2017

Has todays launch of CPU's (well on OCUK site anyway) made you change you mind? Buying or now AMDing?

I'm trying to get an x299 setup but the boards I'm interested in are sold out or delayed for another week.

OCUK seems to have 10% or so higher prices on the x299 cpus than other places as well which seems more than normal, so waiting for other retailers to get them and prices to settle.

I'll pr9bably buy a coffeelake system in November for a second setup

I'd actually saved up just over £1K for X299, took one look at it and thought - nah thats not for me as a gamer.

So Im hoping mainstream 6 core is an interesting part for us gamers.. but I wont hold my breath lol

I have a little over 1k as well and felt exactly the same as you. Once I saw performance and price of x299 mobo's and quad channel ram(Ram prices are through the roof) I changed my mind as well mate. I'm waiting.

Ha! Me too :D

I reckon CFL-S will be the best gaming CPU for a while to come. Moar leaks please!!!!

How will you use each respective setup? I've always wondered about that.

While I like OCUK, there prices are much higher here. I rarely buy from here because of that. As long as OCUK prices are competitive I'll buy from here?

my gaming room =7820x setup, used for games+video and photo editing, some footage is 4k captured from my drone / cameras and other bits is just gaming footage I like to tinker with.

in the lounge I'll eventually build a separate pc (coffeelake more than likely) hooked up to the 4k tv, this will be used for a home entertainment system, so gaming on the TV when friends are over, streaming 4k netflix/Amazon, media for the home sound system etc.

I would love to be able to setup an old school 4 player system, like if I could somehow split the TV into 4 screens so we could play co-op/games together like the old n64 days.

this is provided our house move goes alright, atm we're in a 1 bed house (no kids) so my pc is down in the living room. hoping to move to a bigger place by November/December so will be doing a dual setup then.

yeah got my possible ryzen build on ************ atm and its nearly £100 more just buying everything from ocuk and that includes free shipping over paying some shipping from others.

Since caseking took over the prices have crept up a lot over the last few years. Some decent deals for sure but prices are pushing others to go elsewhere nowadays.

I mean, not in a horrible way but OCUK operates basically the same rma policy as other companies in the uk, whoch is the usual send off to manufacturers and wait up to 28 days.

it's why most of my stuff comes from the rainforest, because any issue and a replacement is sent out next day or a full refund is offered, my 18 month old z35 acer developed a single dead pixel, had a full refund in my account 3 days later and postage paid to return it.

The two RMA's I've sent back to OCers, one had a replacement sent on the same day the RMA was received (replacement received 2 days after I sent it), and the other took about 4 days for me to get the replacement. I can't believe those replacements got triggered by the manufacturers having examined them.

I've seen other people who have said they've had to wait the typical 2-4weeks depending on the item. not saying it's bad, it's standard practise. just the rainforest go above and beyond.

I've spent plenty of money on things like my dxracer etc from ocuk, so I do use them, but when it's a product that can potentially have teething issues (like motherboards) other places are simpler to return to.

All the rainforest sells here are...books... *face palm*

I wish I had the funds for two setups!

they only sell books? are you in the north pole or something?

Possibly, but more likely the usual type of thing foreign company's do when looking at the UK market.....................let's price it as high as we can and see if they bite.

I dunno, I buy a lot of stuff from abroad and it still works out cheaper than what some of these companies are charging.

I just posted this in another thread, but the 7700k 5.2ghz delidded chips here are nearly £400 than other places, even IF you got hit by customs.

I guess half the problem is the UK has very little competition, OCUK, and 2 other smallish companies are all that's here mainly for pc enthusiasts, where as America has glorious places like frys and microcenter.

I went to a frys once in the states when on holiday, **** me was like pc mecca, every glorious piece of hardware you could want on show, extremely competitive prices, just everything...

I've been to frys a few times in the states. Amazing place. Too bad we don't have anything like that here?

Yep, been to Frys loads of times on visits to the States and your right it's just hardware heaven. Your also right about the little competition here in the UK. Want to be careful what is say on the forum, but our hosts are defo less competitive than they were. Maybe they ignore the rainforest, maybe they don't..............but it's just as easy to compile a wish list and compare the bottom line on most sites nowdays.

I think most retailers forget how easy it is to simple Google a product and have a return showing prices from the whole web, which means if they ain't competitive on price then they aren't appearing at the top of the search results.
