Intel to launch 6 core Coffee Lake-S CPUs & Z370 chipset 5 October 2017

I assume the point was more about the unnecessary chipset changes when the physcial socket doesn't even change. I mean it was bad enough when a motherboard only lasted two generations but we've now had 3 chipsets for 3 generations!
A new chipset for a new platform is the normal and the Z170 supports Sky and Kaby Lakes so 3 chipsets for 3 generations is not the issue.

I was hoping today would be information/benchmarks on the desktop 8700K, disappointing if it isn't. Although my enthusiasm for upgrading is rapidly diminishing as it doesn't look like we're going to get a massive IPC increase and I don't have a real need for 6 cores at the moment just the upgrade itch which is going to have to wait for the next round.

I was really hoping we would get an idea of how good or not as the case may be for gaming. My 4770k at 4.6 is now starting to get into the 95-100 % usage stage in a few games and my titan Pascal is always 99-100 %. Really wanted to see if the new i7 line-up could push the games more. Also I want me n2 ssd in it's own slot not the 2nd pci slot thanks to the adapter I have use.

We will find out at 4pm. What is out there now are only leaks/what has been revealed so far. There are pics of the desktop boxes so there might well be info on the desktop parts as well.

I assume it's about all the 8th Gen processors including Coffee Lake - but sounds like availability will be quite a lot later in the year than the KBL refresh parts announced earlier.

Jeez.. The usual crap fest going on in the comments @ WCCF..

I don't think anyone knows when the next big IPC increase will come, if Icelake or Zen 2 don't bring anything decent then we're probably years away.

I want to upgrade this 3930k... PC is really slowing down now. Just showing it's age really, but these minor upgrades each year just keep me holding on until something comes - which it hasn't just yet.

Intel give me a reason to upgrade. Please! (No I won't go AMD)

Yeah I can see me holding off doing a full upgrade for a while yet. Looks like my next upgrade will be GFX again, so probably a Volta based card.
