Saw that, that Dell is great Wow...cheesy fest lol. I can't see any tech info, releases or prices coming. Did they say this last 15mins only?
Brian still scanning that foggy beach!
So the Z270 chipset is a dead socket within around 9 months of release? What an absolute stab in the back for current Intel users.
Intel could have at least let people who invested in Z270 be able to let them switch to Coffee Lake CPU's, but hey nothing new there.
All planned in Intels grand scheme of things to kill off the socket and make people buy new chipsets. At least with AMD AM4 it will last for around 4 years. How did you expect intel to power 6cores off a 4core socket? Would have never have worked. Well it might but would bottleneck the cpu so hard.
Doesn't it have almost the same tdp as the 7700k 91watt vs 95 watt? How did you expect intel to power 6cores off a 4core socket? Would have never have worked. Well it might but would bottleneck the cpu so hard.
So 3 months less than normal, wow big deal.So the Z270 chipset is a dead socket within around 9 months of release? What an absolute stab in the back for current Intel users.
You sound abit grumpy. Just because Intel have been doing this for years, doesn't mean they have to. I think their should be more choice, why should the end user have to keep upgrading chipsets when the motherboards are more than likely capable of powering their CPU's.So 3 months less than normal, wow big deal.
I thought this was a forum for enthusiasts who are clued up!
Intel usually keeps a socket for 2 generations which means 2 chipsets over roughly 2 years.
With the 200 series being the second chipset for the socket it was always only going to last a year at most.
I say at most because KabyLake is the 3rd generation at 14nm so more of a stop gap so it's more akin to Broadwell on the desktop so not a platform to buy if you want 2 years of support.
This is all common information that anyone clued up could deduce but still the outrage of the ignorant continues.
Well, after all the big hype on the AT forums about SkyLake++ (ah sorry, KabyLake+ (no, sorry CoffeeLake)) 6C/12T being the second coming making Ryzen irrelevant, it seems the glorious day is actually not now, but rather real soonTM (that is October at the earliest). Some of you need to check the AT forums thread - apparently Intel releasing MOAR cores now,and rushing the X299 launch(and bringing forward the Coffeelake launch) has nothing to do with Ryzen. Apparently its all sheer coincidence, especially when Ryzen was actually meant to be released late last year and the design and core counts would have already been finalised for the basic chip in 2015(IMHO OFC).
With little competition until very recently intel followed a similar path to apple, minor incremental increases , premium pricing and frequent planned end of life for products.
As long as their sales and margins remain they have no reason to change.
