Intel’s surprise Ryzen killer

oh

is now not a good time to build a new pc then? i desperately need to upgrade my q6600 now i can afford it :)
Why wouldn't now be a good time? AMD are releasing the fastest consumer CPUs in a few weeks, their previous generation is still very good (and much better pricing), and you can still argue for some of Intel's Comet Lake kit. You have a lot of choice, so like I said: what are you using it for and what is your budget?

Yeah new Ryzens, the question is will they be hard to get like the 3000 series GPUs, I would say not as hard.

If you're desperate build it all, get a second hard 2000 series Ryzen then plonk in the 5000 series once you can get your hands on it.

The nice aspect about the Ryzens is that it won't need a new socket or different memory(just a slower speed it'll run) as the x570 chipset is compatible with 2000s up to 5000 cpus.

No. The new stuff from Intel is going to be DOA in the face of Zen 3.
Depends on pricing, priorities and a full set of benchmarks.
I wouldn't recommend waiting for Rocket Lake provided you can actually buy a Zen 3 before RL is released! :) Just a little dig at Nvidia.
Even with new cores, being stuck on 14nm will mean it will unlikely be able to close the gap.
If you like big power hungry chips that over-clock and almost melt your face then consider Intel.

oh thats good so i could just make the computer now and maybe fit a cheaper processor until the new ones are available !

That's what I would personally do yeah mate.
Make it amazing all ready and enjoy it now then just slot the 5000 in when you can get it. :) Obviously up to you

Apparently intel got 10nm working now and its in full scale production. Next intel cpu probably make zen3 look like bulldozer all over again.

This thread was talking about ALDER LAKE (read the opening post). This is a 10nm CPU due due in late 2020 or early 2021. It has chiplets, big cores and small cores, and will likely be Intel's 'Ryzen' moment.

What you're talking about is Rocket Lake - which is not the subject of this thread. Rocket lake is due Q1 2020, and will still be on 14nm, with a new architecture. Probably 15-20% IPC increase, with increased power draw. Wil probably be 5% ahead of Zen3, but pretty much neck on neck.

That was the main thrust but the sideshow was about waiting for Intel to release a new chip and which one wasn't specified either way.
So I commented on the next actual release which has officially been announced.
If you are talking about waiting for 2 or more platforms down the line, then we are deep into wild speculation.
Especially if it involves Intel's 10nm.
I wouldn't recommend that anyone wait for any Intel platform at this point.
Doubly so if Zen 3 hasn't been over hyped by AMD this week.

How did you manage to subtract 1 year from all three of those dates?

2 or more platforms? What do you mean?

Current LGA1200 (z490) supports current comet lake CPU's (10900k etc), as well as Rocket Lake CPU's launching early next year. LGA1700 launches late 2021 or early 2022 most likely, which is Alder Lake. This is the subject of the thread - Intel's potential Ryzen killer, their first desktop CPU on 10nm.

As I said, it was a sideshow to the main thread. At least I hope that poster wasn't seriously going to wait for AL over Zen 3!

You're not serious, are you? You are? Oh dear.

The next Intel CPU is another 14nm, and then there's nothing on desktop for another year. By the time Intel actually bring Alder Lake to desktop, AMD will be on 5nm Zen 4.
