no. Someone recommended it in this thread but so far I seem to just be getting typical blokes who don't seem to be interested in making conversation, its more "how are you?" "do you have msn?"

i'm starting to have second thoughts about this now lol

Edit: after all that i've closed the account on okcupid as i was getting messages from people all over the world, so have gone with datingdirect.co.uk instead lol. It seems a lot easier to use so will see how this goes!

my profile at the moment is complete naff, i just cant think what to type so i've left it as it is and will have a think about it tomorrow to try and make it sound more interesting lol

Yea just found it after a quick google, saw the 100% free logo at the top and I'm diving in now :D

lol cool good luck!

I've just had a brief search and have found someone nice looking who lives nearby and we match on quite a few points.

I was thinking of sending a message along the lines of :

"Hi There,

I recently came across your profile and noticed that we have similar tastes and hobbies. Would you be interested in having a chat?"

Does that sound really lame?

secretspy:

datingdirect.co.uk = Meetic
So you have to pay to send messages.

Shame you closed your account on okcupid so quickly, you just have to ignore the 'no effort' messages from people.

nokinidea:

If you have the time, do the tests (at least the staff tests) on okcupid as you can compare your results to other profiles.

Screw this dating site malarky. You're a woman. I'm a man. You have needs. I have needs. LEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET'S GET READY TO RUMBLE!!!

lol i dont know what to write.

he hasnt put anything in his "about me" bit that I could comment on (possibly because it has to be approved first) but he's put interests, and then what he's looking for in his "perfect" match

Tell him a bit about yourself, why you decided to message him and try to ask a couple questions, maybe something about his interests.*

*This might be the completely wrong way to go about things, ive never tryed internet dating

No don't write that!!!

Try something like.

"Hey, Just checking my matches before bed and noticed we have a couple of things in common so thought I'd drop you an email."

Then mention something about the hobbies. As no more than 2 questions.

Then finish with

"Right I'm off to bed, hope to hear from you soon"

No kisses!

Show interest and write a little more than a couple of sentences. One thing that really annoys me is a poor opener. ie you could have spammed your original email to 50 people as it's quite generic.

Good luck :)

Orange Peel - thanks for this. Im rather tired so was finding it difficult to know what to write. He mentioned he likes travelling so i commented on that and asked if he'd been to many places. then mentioned how i'd like to see more of the world one day. then just briefly said what im interested in and the type of person i am.

fingers crossed it wasn't too bad!!

edit: lol Ive had loads of emails saying "so and so's winked at you" " so and so's viewed your profile" Then an email from dating direct saying "your profiles proving popular today"

lol

secret, if I can be honest: don't worry about it so much. You'll only end up working yourself up into a state if it all goes pig-eared and what have you. :)

Have fun though! ;)

okcupid
Free.
The tests created by staff and members are very good. Some of the stuff written on the female member profiles can provoke you into sending them *swearie* messages.

Thought I'd give this a go after the farce that was Plenty of Fail :p

The site is bloody messy, and the MySpace vibe is almost unbearable... but I'll persevere for a little while! :D

Cheers,

Suman

OkStupid has a very active community, they do a lot of things right over there. After someone here recommended it I signed up to Meetic on Wednesday, and it's just full of far eastern spammers. 'Winks' and "why dont you message me on aim/yahoo/msn" messages from the Philippines coming in by the bucketload, gnnhh
