Well, this iOs update bricked my 4s. I've tried updating it from my desktop and laptop, with new versions of itunes and fresh downloads of the upgrade and phone in recovery mode. Every time it gets to 'verifying firmware' stage before returning an "unknown error (1)". Now the phone is stuck in recovery.
Apple have been no help whatsoever so far - phone tech support told me my 4s bought in October 2011 was out of warrenty and that they'd need to charge me £60 to talk to me on the phone. The next appointment for face to face technical support at one of the central London stores is next Monday evening.
O2 told me the apple in store support would be better, since theirs would take around 14 days for the phone to be sent off and fixed - but at least would be free. Bit of a farce so far to be honest - I'm currently betting on turning up Monday to the apple store and threatening sale of goods act etc on them if they try to charge me to look at it. The phone's 5 month's old - and was working fine before *their* software update, I don't understand how they can refuse tech support / charge to fix their **** up?
