iOS 5.1 discussion

I guess it's because it's being hammered but is anyone else struggling to get past the contacting iPhone software update server message?

Usage 4hrs,32mins
Standby 11hrs, 10mins
Remaining 51%

Would be on red this time yesterday :D Mucho Improved

Just about to update to 5.1 now. Since having this 4s about 3 weeks now.
I am having very odd battery consumption. Usually its every day charge. But now my standby time is 2 days 5 hours and i had 48% left.

Hopefully see a permanent fix. But cant see it.

So, i had to restart my phone and now I get the message "Could not activate cellular data", i'm on Orange, any help?

My mrs is on Orange reporting same problem, she has not updated to 5.1 though so must just be a general service issue.

2 people on orange at work had this today. One on a SGS2 and one on a iphone 4 5.01. nothing to do with the 5.1 firmware.

Very much hoping 5.1 solves the low memory Safari crashes on my wife's 1st gen iPad. She's all but stopped using it recently because it crashes so frequently.

This really bugs me. 99% of my iPad usage is web browsing, really thinking of getting something else it bugs me that much.

I'm so glad that they've finally made it so bookmarks don't automatically pop up when you open Safari, used to be really annoying.

Extremely rare for safari to crash on mine, can't actually remember the last time this happened. Perhaps close some tabs or some background applications and see if this improves.

The only time I really experience a crash is with some ** fully star out swearies ** applications like Facebook, but then it's a fairly rare occurrence.

Well, this iOs update bricked my 4s. I've tried updating it from my desktop and laptop, with new versions of itunes and fresh downloads of the upgrade and phone in recovery mode. Every time it gets to 'verifying firmware' stage before returning an "unknown error (1)". Now the phone is stuck in recovery.

Apple have been no help whatsoever so far - phone tech support told me my 4s bought in October 2011 was out of warrenty and that they'd need to charge me £60 to talk to me on the phone. The next appointment for face to face technical support at one of the central London stores is next Monday evening.

O2 told me the apple in store support would be better, since theirs would take around 14 days for the phone to be sent off and fixed - but at least would be free. Bit of a farce so far to be honest - I'm currently betting on turning up Monday to the apple store and threatening sale of goods act etc on them if they try to charge me to look at it. The phone's 5 month's old - and was working fine before *their* software update, I don't understand how they can refuse tech support / charge to fix their **** up?

They won't charge you for turning up. Haven't seen anyone else with this error here or on another forum too so a bit strange.

If they can't get it to accept the upgrade you will likely get a replacement unit on the spot

Just curious what you mean about the camera on the lock screen, I have a 4s and always been able to double tap the home button and the camera icon appears.

Updated mine through the phone itself, cant notice anything different really apart from the camera thing on the hime screen.

I have however niticed a couple side effects
Pinch zoom seems abit out now
Battery life seems worse

Cant wait for upgrade time in june, will certainly not be getting anything apple again.

Well the news on the low memory issue seems good as I was able to browse several sites (one after the other) which is something I couldn't do after I'd installed iOS5 without it killing the browser on the last site.
