** iOS 8 **

Plug into iTunes. Instead of update select restore. Backup to your mac as it's easier You can always backup to iCloud again after.

When it has finished restoring select set up as a new iphone/ipad rather than from a back up.

Once set up plug back into iTunes and select restore from a back up. You should be good to go.

Took the plunge and put iOS8 on my non-retina iPad Mini tonight - installed it, did a factory reset and restored from the most recent backup. It was a bit laggy while it was re-installing all my apps - no big surprise there - but once that was complete, all is now fine and so far it doesn't feel any different in use than with iOS7.

It is but when its too demanding for its hardware it is not worth supporting. Apple aren't doing you a favour by supporting old hardware. They're just rending old devices slow making people upgrade. Criminal.

That's harsh. iOS is not a mandatory update like for example system software for a Xbox/Playstation. The end user has the option to install it or not.

An old iPhone 4 will run iOS6 at the same speed it ever did. They don't get slower with age. The choice to install iOS7 is the end users. If Apple didn't offer the update everyone would be up in arms about it being unsupported. They can't escape without critisism either way.

Anyone having wireless problems?
my iPad Air appears to keep losing connection. Wifi symbol OK etc but no access to Internet via Safari or other apps.
Sometimes a reset of wifi works, but couple times had to do a complete power off and on to bring it back.

You can still downgrade back to 7.1.2 as apple have not stopped signing it yet. They normally leave it a week before they stop so if you are going to do it i'd do it fast.

The only issue is you can not install a backup from a iOS 8 device. You can install iCloud saved contacts and the like but that is it.

Hopefully this is aloud but this link to redmond pie should help. (Admin please remove and accept my apologise if the link is not ok).

I have tried a full restore from scratch and my iPad mini retina is still horrid to use.

I think I'm going to look into installing 7 again as 8 is horrid to use for me and the wife.

In what way "horrid"? Slow? Crashing, laggy/ all of these?

Still on 7.1.2 here and comments here don't look too inspiring (iPad Air 128 gig) but not "all" comments. It's not like everyone has major issues, but "most" perhaps it had to be said.

I personally will wait for 8.01 or whatever. Can't understand why Apple put out ios 8, and showcase it's 100s of new features, but YET people have major problems with it. IPad Air and others should work smoothly like apple say shouldn't it? I know as one post above says we DONT have to update if we don't want to, as it's end users choice, but with a new flagship iPad Air I would say there's no excuse, really. ......

Pretty much all of the above.

It feels laggy and horrid to use. Web pages keep freezing and need refreshing lots to get them to open. Scrolling in Facebook is laggy and Stuttery. The touch interface feels less precise as well. I keep missing touching which did not happen before.

I'm going to try and re-load 7 later if you still can. Need to work out how you do it.

I think I will stick to iOS 7 for now. Can't be bothered to delete a load of apps to free up 7gb and I also can't be bothered downloading iTunes, adding my PC as an approved machine or whatever it is and trying to prove I own the iPads. My ipad 2 was only ever plugged into a PC once in a feeble attempt to downgrade iOS when they removed YouTube and Google maps. My mini retina doesn't even know what a PC is. My mini retina runs flawless in everything and the ipad 2 runs very good after applying a couple of the usual tweaks.

Well if it's manslaughter that Apple fails to deliver on ios 8 Like they promise? Then it's murder that you can't roll back to 7.1.2. Why don't they, at least give you the opportunity to "try it out" before you "buy" as it were? I think your allowed a week or something yes? Is this a straight forward roll back procedure within the week?

Tony.
