iOS6 Changing how you see the world

Regardless of the Apple bashing this just goes to show that Apple is moving away from the "it just works" ethos that was about when Steve Jobs was in charge. I'm sure this wouldn't have been released if he was still at the top in this form, it's just a bad PR disaster. Again, Apple shows it's all about the money these days, because the old Apple would just have delayed the maps until they were ready...

The whole "It Just Works" was never an ethos, it was marketing BS, and pretty much implied it was some sort of luxury that the product you just bought actually works properly.

Then the Apple crowd got hold of it and went running, often using it as some sort of insult and suggestion that Apple products never have faults.

The funniest is that the whole time, plenty of Apple products had faults but no one would accept it (Apple nor the diehard fans). For example, whether you think the iPhone 4 antenna issue was as much of a problem as it was, the way people acted over it was just bizarre and very much in stark contrast to the "It Just Works" nonsense, I don't think Apple have yet admitted there was any fault of the handset itself have they? I just recall Steve Jobs's "Oh, it's because you're holding it wrong" rubbish.

Don't people still pretend that Apple products can't be infected with viruses or malware too?

I don't think it's a money issue with the sd slot....they don't think you need extra memory or the ability to easily move stuff via sd card, and to cover themselves they use iCloud. Why use a non-removeable battery that means if the battery is duff then the handset is up the stuff? I know a fair few people who have upgraded to a newer iPhone simply because the battery was pants...

Course it's about money, if the iPhone had a sdcard slot everyone would buy the 16GB and put a sdcard in and Apple would'nt sell the £200 marked up 64GB versions. The chances of a battery being DOA are quite small i'd imagine so Apple don't see it has a signicant risk, but on the flip side when the battery dies in 2-3 years due to normal use people have no choice but to buy a new phone.

Why isn't there an sd slot on I phones anyway

Wrong thread for this, but they take up too much space. The card itself might be 'small' (in reality it really isn't) it needs all the stuff inside it.

Waste of space. I don't want one.

Secondly, to people who say they should have released it when it was ready:

Google Maps is YEARS old and has MILLIONs of people constantly updating and correcting their maps.

Apple now needs to build up a database which can ONLY BE DONE via users sending in corrections.

Unfortunately, maps will be **** until the database is sorted out. Period. If you think a company can suddenly magic up the required database and man hours to correct the whole world your deluded. Satellite imagery requires them spending more money tho, I don't understand why that is that bad :/

Tentatively updated iPad as I need maps on the phone and actually not as bad as people are making out. Infant the places I just looked at where identicale to google, same three directions. Same starlight images etc. the only difference is apple maps have a nice colour balance, deeper colours.
I see there's a report a problem button, so perhaps a lot has allready sorted out? Or that these problems though plenty are small in comparison to the size of the globe and all the detail their in.

Like the pick showing Austrailia is in America. That doesn't happen.

Seems they've fixed loads allready.
Solihull and Stratford Upon Avon are present and correct.

The space thing is a a crock, there are plenty of small and/or thin phones with sdcard slots, it's all about the money.

But are all the business etc.. listed?

This is the main problem for me, it's not entirely down to the naff satellite views and inaccurate place names. The database used for businesses appears to be up to 10 or 12 years out of date, going by some businesses people have spotted listed, which actually closed a decade ago. The sheer volume of businesses is lacking too - not one of the 30+ curry houses in the Milton Keynes area are listed, for example.

To a certain extent I agree but there's so many basic errors in London that it really is laughable.

Apple should have hired a bunch of summer students in each country to look through the maps to find the basic errors. I'm sure one of them would have spotted Tottenham Court Road station being missing straight away (which is still missing despite me giving feedback during the beta phase).

Apple dropped the ball on this. If I'd wanted to be a full-time beta tester, I would have bought an Android phone. :p
