iPad Mini...

I've spent about 30 minutes with one in store and it certainly seems a lot nicer on the eye than my iPad 2 screen. Obviously, not retina nice, but I do notice a slight clarity improvement.

Currently trying to get this iPad 2 sold! :p

So we now know that it's technically rubbish and not really worth the money. Oddly I'm still very close to buying one and I just can't explain why

Bit harsh?

I still have a iPad 1 and it still goes strong though for some reason I can't get iOS6. Runs everything fine inc new games like GTA 3 etc. :)

I imagine the iPad will run things at least same if not better. :o

The iPad mini is not 'technically rubbish' at all.

The iPad 2 performance (which is pretty much the same as the mini) is still pretty much level with the 3rd/4th gen iPad. It's just the screen.

The screen bothers me a lot but not as much as the crappy build of every other tablet on the market. The iPad Mini just feels so 'right' to hold.

And presumably it's going to play 720p videos just fine - the screen is too small to notice much of a difference anyway?

They are reasonable sturdy, the demo unit at work has been dropped 3 feet onto a concrete floor at least twice so far and only a couple of tiny scratches on the edge :p

Just play Angry Birds, if you can tolerate the smearing your okay. Its not as bad as the IPad2 which put me off one until the lovely 3 came out but it's a big yes or no decision in terms of how well it manages motion.

I still think Apple will produce a retina version next year. They'd sell this years all over again and more. So they'd have to introduce another resolution to iOS? So what? Eventually they'll discontinue iPad 2 (not so the mini) so they're gonna have to do that at some point anyway - or forever be stuck with a 7.9" tablet at 1024x768, which I just can't see.

I think it is safe to say they will produce a retina iPad mini. They may not have to change the pixel resolution though. Just make it double the current resolution. That's if they have perfected the technic to cram those pixels in an even smaller space.

I am doubtful it will be in the Jan/Fe slot. Maybe sometime in 2013. All total speculation you understand. ;)

I popped into an Apple store again this afternoon to have another look and accidentally walked out (purchased of course) with a new black slate iPad mini. Whoops! :)

I'm going to label it fate as they had an express checkout set up and apparently today was the first stock they had received in over a week and they only had 3 left that weren't already reserved :p

Had another look at the mini last night and I still maintain the screen is fine, I really don't have any issue with it as a retina-iPad owner.

I've never used an iPad 2 to compare it, but it's way nicer than the old iPad 1 I have knocking about.

I have an iPad 2, and the first time I played with a mini I thought the screen didn't look as good. After going back for another play yesterday I thought it looked better & I bought one. Having them both together and spending the evening using it. It's clearly not retina but is in fact noticeably better than an iPad 2's screen.

It's incredibly light, makes my iPad 2 feel like a brick. w/ retina thins thing will be perfect although I expect it to come with a price tag closer to the iPad 4th gen.

My wife's iPad Mini just arrived.

Problem is it's been destroyed in transit.

Quick (20 minute) call to Apple and I should get a new one within two weeks.

I don't really understand Ananadtech's point about pixel density here : http://www.anandtech.com/show/6429/ipad-mini-review/5

Apple produces the 4S which has it's own specific resolution. It's not like iOS has a limited amount of resolutions it can handle or if it does, Apple are overly considerate of it. Nor do they care too much about developers having to make apps device or specifically res aware.

If we don't see a retina mini with it's own res, giving a pixel density similar to iPad / iPhone before next Christmas I'll be absolutely flabbergasted.

Went to the Apple store today in Covent Garden and saw and had a play with the iPad for the first time - My first impressions are that it looks and feels amazing! The weight of it is a huge plus for me, and the fact I can comfortably hold it with one hand is much nicer!

I am quite tempted to sell my iPad 3 for an iPad mini at the moment  But I'm thinking about maybe waiting until next year when they release the retina version (It's gotta happen :p). The display isn't massively worse off, but I feel if I get a few more months use out of my iPad 3, I'll get the next version of the mini.

iPhone 4 and 4s were exactly double that of the iPhone, 3G and 3GS making it very scalable.

Same plan as me, not a huge fan of the smaller screen but the weight more then makes up for it
