iPhone 2.0.1 Released

Contacts scrolling is much better, but it still takes an age to load and crashes on exit now.

There's warnings that updating to 2.0.1 may render any kind of unlocking impossible in the future

As some of you already know, updating your iPhone to firmware 2.0.1 means that you've lost access to all your jailbroken apps. That's pretty much expected and should be rectified by the DevTeam soon enough. What's notable from an unlocking perspective, however, is that Apple's 2.0.1 release also updates the iPhone 3G baseband. This puts iPhone 3G owners in a bit of a quandary: update now via iTunes in desperate hopes of the stability and improved keyboard response we've been seeing but do so at the risk of not being able to unlock your iPhone 3G in the future (if and when the DevTeam gets around to releasing it for firmware 2.0). A lot can happen in the course of a 2 year (or longer) carrier commitment. According to the DevTeam, you'll get all the benefits of Apple's 2.0.1 update (without the pesky new baseband) just as soon as they can kick out the updated PwnageTool (current version is 2.0.1) onto the Internets. Decisions, decisions.

Hi guys,

do i lose my settings when i do this?

New user.

Nope unless your restore, just click update.

If i update from 1.1.4 to 2.0.1 will i need to do ANY kind of activating/unlocking to use an O2 simplicity in the iPhone ?

Also, is the iTunes remote player thing free or do you have to purchase apps from apple apps store on the iPhone ?

My simplicity SIM worked first time, not sure if it because I updated to 2.0 originally with the O2 server trick and pwned it later. Would try to get 2.0 first activate it with O2 via iTunes then update to 2.0.1.

The iTunes remote is free can be downloaded either on the iPhone or via iTunes on your Mac/PC.

The itunes my iphone 3g is synced on is an unreliable laptop.

Can I plug into my main pc which has itunes on (which is synced to my step daughters ipod) get the update and run?

For those who have hidden icons in the BossPrefs app, you should unhide them before upgrading otherwise you won't be able to see them after the upgrade and restoring a backup.

Yeah should be fine.

Just noticed this after you pointed it out oops :p

There appears to be no way to get the hidden apps back. I tried downgrading back to a jailbroken 2.0 firmware to unhide the apps however when I wanted to restore a backup, iTunes refused to restore the latest backup because it was only for 2.0.1. My only other backups were over 2 weeks old but didn't want to restore them as it wouldn't have my latest game saves and so on :p

The way iTunes backs up is strange, it must have overwritten the backups it had performed within those 2 weeks

Guess I'll have to wait for Dev team to release PwnageTool that's compatible with the 2.0.1 firmware to get the hidden apps back :( :p

Seems a bit quicker over all. Transitions from one home screen to the next seem smoother.
Hope it fixed the typing lag bug.

I just wish Zibri would jailbreak/unlock v2.0 for a start. Still on 1.1.4 and waiting on an Orange PAYG. :o

What have you read?

He purposely messed up the mac code, he buggered the wifi and then had to release a fix, on earlier phones apparently he did something to the bootloader rendering updating to 2.0 impossible, few other things etc.

When im going to be messing with a £200 phone I'd stick with pwnage as its a cleaner way of doing things.
