I seem to be having a battery issue with my phone, i've turned off all notifications, turned off push, closed all background applications and even while in sleep the battery drains unusually fast. I went to sleep last night and it was at about 65%, i woke up this morning and it was at 10%. My 3G would last for days in sleep mode, and the 4 seems to struggle to last a day with little usage.

The only thing i can seem to nail it down to other than a faulty battery is whenever it's in sleep mode it doesn't seem to disconnect from the WiFi. My 3G would disconnect from the WiFi within a few mins if it went into sleep mode, but my 4 seems to be constantly connected whenever im in range and this could be a reason it's killing the battery.

Has anyone else encountered this or do i need to take a trip down to the apple store?

I'd go to the Apple store, I left mine on stand by over night and it dropped from 100% to 98% in about 8.5 hours.

Ok thanks, i'll give it a few charge cycles over this next week and if it hasn't improved by next weekend i'll take a trip to the apple store.

EDIT: Just to illustrate how bad my battery life is, i've fully charged my phone before i went to bed last night and took a screen shot of it's usage and battery life this morning and it's quite plain to see:

Its funny seeing all these proud people saying they dont have the issue. Clearly if its a sofware thing EVERYONE has the issue.

It is at the bottom because the FCC, the regulators, insist that all phones put the antennas at the bottom, away from the brain, due to the fear of radiation. All phones are the same these days, notice the first iPhone with the plastic part at the bottom?

No it is on the bottom of the left side, I meant the real bottom where the power/data socket is. :)

Anyone else getting random total signal loss (whilst not even touching the phone!) and a subsequent "NO SIM" message? Turning the phone off and a reboot seems to fix the issue but it's quite annoying. It's happened three times now since Saturday morning.

Is anyone getting a mobile buzzing noise in ear piece whilst on a call? It's the sort of noise you hear on a speaker when using a phone nearby, only seems to do it when not on wifi, but its really annoying? Is this normal?

Your signal is almost nothing. When it's on standby even though the screen is off the phone will be constantly searching for a better signal and that will drain the battery.

Yeah... I found that having a weak 3G signal drains the battery a lot on the iPhone. In Oxford my iPhone 3G was constantly switching between EDGE and one bar of 3G. It used so much battery that I just turned 3G off.

Holy Retina Display, Batman!

Mm.. seeing the screen captures brings home how much higher the new resolution is!

My boss got his iPhone 4 on launch day and it seems to have this problem. I've got an iPhone 3G and we both get 5 bars 3G in the office. The difference is when I hold mine, it doesn't drop down to 1 bar!

He downloaded the Speedtest app and he got ~1Mbit with the phone on the desk and 113Kbit while holding it; so a 90% reduction in data download speed.

Even after all that, he's keeping it; I think he's nuts!
