*** iPhone 5 - Revealed! ***

Been through four 4Ss and now three/four iPhone 5s, as well as three iMacs and numerous other bits. It's more a warines of replacing a device when it is technically fine and could be replaced with something worse. The phone is technically damaged, that's the main thing.

Made a post a week or so back on my Apple experiences, you'll see why I'm so concerned.

Just hoping to get some opinions before deciding whether to swap it out. Not going to bother if the rough finishing appears to be common for all devices.

what are you doing to your phones / macs??

Absolutely nothing! These were all new products, all of which had issues. 4Ss were covered in chips and dents, replacement iMac came with a chip in the glass (which was certainly not caused by shipping - nothing could have hit it), first 5 came damaged, second I took had debris under the display and looked like a disco ball with all its chips.

I don't even know whether I'm fussy, or whether I'm unlucky. I'm really starting to think it's the latter.

I'm passing by the Apple Store later, going to compare my device with those on display.

I think people are going OTT about how easily it scratches. Every other high end phone scratches easily too. The main competitor has a bloody plastic back (Samsung GS3). I don't know what people are expecting? It's aluminium it will scratch. It's either that or use glass again or plastic making it look worse and going back a step. It only seems to be made a issue of if Apple do it. Before iPhones when I had normal yet expensive mobiles the paint of the cheap plastic Nokia covers would just come off from being in a pair of jeans. Coming scratched out of the box is just plain unacceptable however.

Yep. I've had mine naked in my pocket quite a bit since I got it, propped it on equipment at the gym to video my form etc and the finish is identical to when I got it.

Same. I chuck mine about a bit and don't have a case and it still looks as fresh as when I got it. My only complaint is that the surface picks up grease even better than the 4/4S, but a quick wipe with a cloth sorts that.

Have now contacted Apple to add a note to my iPhone's serial number, they will swap it out whenever I want basically, so will sort that out next month.

However, even though no one cares, I've just had my keyboard replaced because the new one from yesterday had a broken "Y" key. This one is severely bent. How does this stuff get through QC? I've now had 20 warranty swaps for Apple products, and by the end of the month this will be 22. It got silly at about 5.

Well just received my iPhone 5 from EE. Really liking it so far, just feels like a nice but not too dramatic upgrade from my iPhone 4 really. The speed is the main thing, all so snappy, and I immediately prefer the 4 inch screen. My first time using Siri too and I am very impressed by it. I am using it to set reminders (something I could never be bothered to do myself before) and send texts mostly. Very nice feature. It destroys S-voice which I have tried on a friend's S3.

I am a bit conscious of avoiding scratches though but suspect the urge to constantly check every corner for a mark will fade in a week or 2. I'll also buy a case tomorrow I think.

My friend has bought an iPhone 5 but has a problem: he says that he can't use it properly until he updates his Mac to Mac OS X 10.6 snow leopard. Is this true? Or is he a tool?

Ahh, okay, thank you! So, no way around this other than buying Snow Leopard for his Mac?

1) Buy an older iPhone and install iOS5
2) Run Windows in a Virtual Machine/Boot Camp

That said the iPhone should work fine without being connected to a computer. Just can't be synced with iTunes for Music. Pre-iOS 5 devices required plugging into a PC to activate, that was removed in iOS 5.

Does anyone ele'se phone rattle? mine has a tiny rattle when I shake it, and it is a known problem, some are worse than others and have gotten a replacement. Apparently something to do with the battery adhesive becoming unstuck, obviously the solution is to not shake the phone, cant get it off my mind that it could be a problem later down the road.

Cant be botherd risking gettings replacement for a small thing when everything else about it is flawless. I cant let it help but niggle me, lol.

Since iOS5 you can setup iPhones independent of iTunes. You only need itunes for copying music/videos across.

Are you sure its not the camera lenses rattling... this is normal as the lenses are not 'fixed' they rattle to allow them to focus.
