*** iPhone 5 - Revealed! ***

You must be the unluckiest person to post on these forums, I've never had a "gadget" if you will that's been anything other than perfect upon opening and wouldn't expect one now.

Sure I've had problems with some devices weeks or months down the line but not from box fresh.

If you are happy with the thing then you are happy and that's all that really matters.

Hey guys,

Been reserving 1 at convent garden and regent street everyday for 3 weeks but no luck.

Would I bet best to just go ahead and order one? (Sim-free) If so, where is likely to have stock? 32gig black.

Quite possibly! Have actually got some unexpected spare time so have booked an appointment. This said, I wouldn't swap it normally merely based on my previous experiences. We'll see how it goes...

Also noticed, and thought it was just my eyes but had it confirmed by someone else, the display has a yellow tint at the top.

Folks... those with the iPhone 5, can you give it a shake and see if there is anything rattling inside the phone? I thought it was the home button/power button/volume button/mute silder, but I have myfinders on all of them and yet still something is rattling inside the iphone.

Can anyone confirm this?

Its probably the camera lens and its normal. Just tap the lens area lightly and its probably what you're talking about.

Yeah others on here have mentioned a Yellow tint, I think they got told it was something to do with the glue and it would right it's self over time. Doesn't sound great to me as most don't have the issue.

Oh, one of these characters again.

Yes, I agree, it isn't acceptable that Apple are letting poor devices through QC. However, do you expect me to waste my own time (which I have very little of currently) swapping devices out that are in equal or worse condition than the one I currently have? And I want an iPhone and actually need a smartphone right now, so am I supposed to refund my current device, and go phoneless for the next however-long-it-takes until I can be "guaranteed" a "perfect" device, even though based on my previous experiences, the devices will likely NOT be perfect anyway? Or buy another phone to hold me over, which will do nothing other than cost me more money?

Fair play - apologies for misinterpreting your post. Read it as you were making excuses for Apples current "anomalies" but can see you weren't now.

Normally it's either something to do with glue, yeah. However, the one I had was tinted at the top, but was fine everywhere else. Nothing like the S3s I had, but still annoying to look at.

My apologies for my previous post coming across so harshly. I don't think there is an excuse for the damage - you use cheap labour, you get cheap results. iPhone faults have definitely gone up with demand, and I wouldn't be surprised if their continued use of Foxconn will bite them in the ass in the next few generations. The only problem, if not Foxconn, who?

Just went to my local store, the ******* were as rude as always, immediately saying "I'll swap your device" without even looking at the phone, then stating the typical "there is no problem" later on (so why replace my device without a moment's hesitation? Am now left with a device that is peppered with small silver dots all over, a small dent in the rear, loads of bits on the bottom, more dents in the Lightning port, and a nice big piece of debris under the glass (black).

Will be having some good words with AppleCare tomorrow, because damage to four 4Ss, three iPhone 5s (including the first replacement that I rejected, which on hindsight I shouldn't have), and a brand new iMac could be seen as taking the **** a teeny tiny bit

But I'm sure you can see why I was relatively happy with what I had. It was the tint and chip in the glass (found that earlier, stuck out like a sore thumb in brighter light) that were the bigger problems. Luckily they've put a note down on the system saying that I can get a replacement next month if I want, just arrange a Genius Bar appointment as normal. However, there is no way that I'm taking a refurb device (if there will even be refurbs by then) with the current situation.

Just seen this thread on HotUKDeals: http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/cex...-607-32gb-678-64gb-736-grade-a-prices-1329973

CEX are offering rather generous trade in prices on the iPhone 5:

IPHONE 5 16GB WHITE & BLACK - GRADE A - RRP £529 - £607 CASH - £78 PROFIT

IPHONE 5 32GB WHITE & BLACK - GRADE A - RRP £599 - £678 CASH - £79 PROFIT

IPHONE 5 64GB WHITE & BLACK - GRADE A - RRP £699 - £736 CASH - £37 PROFIT

It just slipped out of my hand when I took it out of my pocket. Waist height fall to the pavement and it looks like I dropped a grenade on it.

I had an appointment at the genius bar on Saturday because the bottom left corner of the fascia was flexing/clicking a little bit but I had to cancel it, kicking myself now as this looks like where the obliteration emanated from so could have been a defect from the beginning. I'll try and pop into a store later and see what they say.

Apple are not really interested. Their best options were to either buy a new phone (£180 swap out cost in store) or keep booking genius appointments until they have replacement screens in stock which they said would be less than £100 but didn't know exactly.

Fortunately my insurance excess is £30 for damage, not £100 like a thought so I'll be going down that route. Probably should get a case now too.
