*** iPhone 5 - Revealed! ***

wow people are buying it. I'm surprised this time around as it's the first time their phone has been less powerful than the competition. Will be an interesting 6 months from an analysts point of view.

My HTC One X is more powerful, doesn't mean it runs faster or is as smooth. Apple do a great job of optimizing.

Aw crap. 16GB Black ordered *runs off bawling his eyes out*

Powerful doesn't really mean much with iOS as the OS is way more optimised for the hardware it runs on. The phones don't even demand a quad core cp/gpu full stop as games barely tap into the that power anyway with the exception of maybe a couple. I predicted the dual core/quad core effort in the 5 but now I am concerned about heat output when the thing does really intensive tasks i.e heavy gps usage or gaming.

Raw power isn't everything.

I just sold an S3 because frankly, I hated it (well, mostly the Android OS).

Dont know about you guys but the apps i have tie me to apple.

I have invested so much in apps for my iphone/ipad to move away would be madness as i would have to get them all again.

Having had an iphone for the last 5 years i have probably spent a ridiculous amount of money on the apps store.

dont know what i should do.

buy it outright and use a payg sim , untill dust settles and sim only plans become apparent.

or go for contract for 2 years

problem is i already have a contract with virgin who are not supplying the nano sim at the moment. i am currently paying £7 month for 1200 mins and unlimited internet

Was that an offer? Sounds better than the SIMO plan Im on (600mins, unlimited texts, 3Gb data) for the same cost...

ps3ud0

I took it while it was £15 and they've since increased it to £15.90.

Check their sim only plans :)

Here's the lowdown...
waited half the night and suddenly fell asleep. Woke up with a jump, tried to place order at 9.15, bank refused it. Tried another card, bank accepted it (same bank). At time of order it showed 21st dispatch, tried to order again - shows 2 weeks. What's the actual delivery time? Shows on my account page "we've received your order - delivers 21/9 in most areas"

The best option right now would be to buy the phone and get a good PAYG sim (giffgaff). Cost is pretty reasonable this way, and it leaves you the option later on to get in on the 4G action.

Secondly, it's actually not less powerful than the competition, assuming the A6 uses two A15 cores, it's top of the range.

Errr, even if it does use Cortex A15 it depends on the clockspeeds how it compares to the competition.

Try not to build it up too much because your could be setting yourself up for allot of disappointment.

For comparision the latest chipsets from nvidia and samsung have Cortex A9's clocked at 1600MHz and they are quad core, so you could say they are 4x faster then the iPhone 4s.

Apple are only claiming the iPhone 5 is 2x faster than the iPhone 4s.

im already on a sim only plan for iphone with o2.
£10.50 a month if i want to use this LTE i might just jump ship to EE.

I went in an asked for my nano sim pack in my local store this morning on my walk to work and was told they will have them next week.

The O2 website for sim switching is already live. There pack comes with a micro sim adaptor so can do the switch before next friday and avoid the grief.

Will do - with my location and what I expect will be expensive 4G plans from EE I doubt Ill bother getting a pay monthly plan til 4G coverage/bandwidth suit. Ill see if they knock down my plan to £7.50 again before I jump though...

If it is the A15 it will still be extremely quick (they will only downclock it to the point where it doesn't make a difference), and the architecture is apparently excellent for power consumption as well. We shall see.

I'm currently more interested in the overall battery life of the phone, I'm not worried about the speed, if it's even faster than the iPhone 4S then nobody will have an issue.

That's what keeps most people tired down to the IPhone. Bit like buying a game new console from a certain company to maintain backwards capability with their previous games.

Even though I’ve ordered an IPhone 5, if dont like it and sell it, I still have all the apps on my IPad so it wouldn’t be a loss. :)

Yeah Im in a similar boat, if I dont like the iP5 Ill just get an iPad instead to maintain my apps - always wanted a good reason to pick one up...

Ordered from three, 32gb black - unlimited data, £89 up front, £37 a month

Delivery friday, can't wait :)

Was tempted by apple store and keep off contract but £599 up front is a big hit.
