*** iPhone 5 - Revealed! ***

If it is the A15 it will still be extremely quick (they will only downclock it to the point where it doesn't make a difference), and the architecture is apparently excellent for power consumption as well. We shall see.

They are only claiming the CPU is upto 2x the performance, current SoC's available for Android are aready way past that.

I'm in the same boat, sign up for 18 months @ £37 or buy it from Apple and carry on paying £21 a month. Hmmm...

Buy it from Apple and carry on paying £21 a month.

I've had my sim only contract since 2010 paying £20. With unlimited data, 600mins and unlimited text. Buying the phone out right always worked out cheaper in the long run.

What are people finding is the best deal? Looks like I have missed pre-orders so might have to play the que up game or wait a few weeks.

I am on Giffgaff now but there saying months until nano sims are ready and there capping the data on there £10 package.

The S4 Snapdragon is considered to be the best SoC for Android (not the Exynos as you've previously incorrectly suggested).

It's my understanding that the A15 is even more advanced than the Snapdragon, okay, it may not beat it if Apple have decided to downclock it, but it will still be extremely fast and even more efficient - should that be the case.

Have a read of this, it may interest you: http://www.pcper.com/reviews/Processors/Apple-A6-SOC-Cortex-A15-Hits-Market

It states that at 1.5Ghz (same as the S4), the A15 will likely outperform it, if not by much, so if they downclock it a bit, it should be roughly even - putting the notion that the phone is 'less powerful' to rest.

As ever, it's difficult to tell until the likes of iFixit and others get hold of the actual phone.

There is of course a quad-core Krait (S4) for Android on the horizon, which will be in the new LG phone, but that won't be out for a while. I assume that will be more powerful, but nobody has tested it yet.

Ordered from three, 32gb black - unlimited data, £89 up front, £37 a month

Delivery friday, can't wait :)

Was tempted by apple store and keep off contract but £599 up front is a big hit.

Have you worked out the total cost of ownership?

you are mad if you think its a cheaper option going with contract.

I think lots of people who buy iphones dont care about clock speeds or what cpu it has, its about the easy to use os and the looks.

Indeed, as long as the performance is extremely fast then I don't care about how the phone goes about it either. I'm sure it will be, it's not as if the 4S is slow.

The main reason I want it to be the A15 is because it uses considerably less power than the current chips, which - with a decently sized battery - should make the battery life pretty great.

Guys, do you know when apple confirm payment has been confirmed? I am always worried until I know it all has been processed? My order still states "We've received your order".

Cheers!

What what? Im getting it printed on all my business cards so people know what mobile CPU I roll with. Wish 3DMark did an app :(

ps3ud0

three - 24 * 37 = 888 + 89 = 977
o2 simplicity rolling atm - 24 * 20 = 480 + 600 = 1080

I could have gone PAYG on three and its £15ish quid a month but to be honest for me, the difference isn't enough to make me part with £600 on a phone in a single day.

Unless I have missed something?

Firstly. Whats the point of all this RAW power in andriods and Samsungs compared to iPhone's? I mean whats it actualyl doing with this power apart from giving you world class leading terrible battery performance? I mean all the best games, applications are written for iOS in most cases and these run fine? So why this extra power in other devices? Whats it doing? Andriod isn't a fantastic OS anyway so I ask again? whats the power needed for?

People who play a processor spec war in phones really do my nut in. At the point the latest phone doesn't perform well its an issue. Until then, why.

Secondly
I am in contract with Orange for an iPhone 4 I had which expires in June 2013. I want this iPhone 5 which I am going to buy directly from Apple. I need to let Orange know I need a nano sim but what will they do regarding the network? Will I be able to use LTE speeds??

Annoyingly the new tarrifs are offering the same price per month I am paying but giving you 1Gig data whereas I am still on 500.

well £89 up front added to 24 months at £37 equals £977

if you're paying £21 for a sim only deal then spank £599 on a sim free phone its £1103 over the same period!

madness

No Robbo, I never said the Exynos SoC is better than the Dual Core S4, only that The Exynos SoC equiped devices win in most benchmarks. You can make of that whatever you want but I think we all know what you think.

Where are the sources for this information you linked too? looks like more guesswork. :)

This is what I thought, it's silly money either way but at least on contract you keep £510 in the bank today
