Got my iPhone working on Tmobile, took ages but I managed to find a simple way of doing it, was even simpler than I thought!
Tempted to sell it though as I don't think its worth £300, its just my blackberry but with an mp3 player inside which I personally don't think is worth £300!
Might stick it on the bay and get more than what I paid for it as I've unlocked it.
Might see if theres anything different when O2 launches the iphone

So long as you can use any o2 sim in it then I won't be unlocking.

I'm not an existing customer, I just hate their iPhone tariffs.. and would rather use my own tariff even if it means not getting the data etc.

You can't use any sim apart from the O2 iPhone tariff ones unless you unlock it! I'm gonna be unlocking mine but still using an O2 sim (mainly because it's the only reliable network connection at my house!).

Where did you hear that mate?

I was dreading that was the case :(

Ok my bad,

Looks like they will hand it over without signing anything,

Shame because if this phone was a bit more exclusive then it wouldn't be bad.

now everyone will have it so its all a bit meh.

I'm already on O2 contract so hopefully if i buy the phone it will just work without having to unlock it;

sid

edit/ thats not going to happen.

at £270 it'll be pretty exclusive assuming they don't discount for existing o2 customers who want to upgrade. I can't think of the last phone I bought which cost me that much, even my 8800SE was less than that...

Yer but it can be unlocked at £270,

whens the last time a hyped phone sold for 270 on release and you could just take home and unlock?

what tiny percentage of the population buys unlocked phones is the question. And unlocking is still for the technically minded and it's risky given the issues with updates.

I don't think it'll matter that you can buy it for £270 then take it home and unlock, hardly anyone will pay £270 for a phone unlocked or otherwise. Yes, you and others on here might, but this is a computer forum.

If you unlock how does it work with GPRS/EDGE? If I buy an iPhone from the states and run it on Tmobile or Vodafone can I use one of their GPRS data plans?

Google Maps etc is an application I would like to run but dont think it would be worth it if I could only use it on Wifi.

lol man, so you base your criteria on whether a phone is suitable for you or not by whether "too many other people have it" ? Despite what you've said you sound like the ideal iPhone customer - image rules over featureset.

^ Was about to say that myself - what a daft thing to include in your decisions as to whether you buy something or not. Why would you want a small user base and a high price?

The type of people who will be providing the best iPhone apps and are already making great strides towards hacking it are unlikely to be people who can justify purchasing a phone outright and then getting into a $60 contract for two years, they're likely to be college students with too much free time.

Simply put, if it was exclusive then it wouldn't be anywhere near as powerful.

From what I understand it all works perfectly although EDGE isn't available on all networks. Also keep in mind that EDGE and GPRS is very slow unless you have perfect signal, I've heard it takes 20-30 seconds to load a standard web page on EDGE with average signal strength, still I'm sure it's handy if you're out and about.

The equivalent plan seems to be Simplicity £15, with the £7.50 web bolt on, coming in at £22.50. You're paying an extra £12.50 and getting into an 18 month contract just so you can use it on an iPhone, which is retarded (yes I know that includes WiFi but trying to use The Cloud is painful).

This time next week we should have our shiny new iPhones, what time is everyone going to start queuing to get theirs? I will be going to the Birmingham Bullring store around 1pm I think

I'll probably head down around 6pm @ Carphone Warehouse store (in town).

Failing that I'll swing by the 02 shop across the street if the CPW shop seems busy.

I've gone off the idea of an iPhone now that I've had my tuch for a bit. Not sure the keyboard will realy suit my usage - I send lots of texts and reckon it'd get on my nerves.

One reason that mine is now on an auction site!

Don't like the none forwarding of texts, touch screen qwerty is impossible when you've had abit to drink and when you've got £300 of phone in your pocket that only has looks that are better than your current phone and missing functionality I just can't see it worth £300 personally
