Well, when the cash I paid into my account this morning finally shows up, I'll be taking the plunge and ordering online.

£35 back from quidco is worth the wait, methinks.

I'm patient, honest. The £35 is worth having to wait 'til tomorrow... when I could have it in my hands right now.

*anxiously waiting for the 'your order has shipped' email*

Don't know if this can be asked here but whats the verdict on unlocking from O2 for the iphone? have apple hit the nail on the head now?

No iPhone bought in the UK can be unlocked. Yes, apple patched everything up.

Well thats not strictly true. You can get them to work with a O2 pay monthly sim, or an O2 pay as you go sim.

I bought a UK iPhone on Friday and im loving it, fantastic phone :)

easy steps to getting a cheap iPhone if you already have a O2 pay monthly sim.

  • Get a new O2 contract with the best mobile they will give you on the best tarriff you can swindle (I got a N95 with 8gig card, 400 mins & 1000 texts, 12 month ccontract)
  • Sell nice new phone (I got £250 for mine)
  • Buy new UK iPhone from any CPW (no credit checks, just walk in and buy)
  • Take home, unlock and put you existing O2 sim in with a better tarriff then the O2 iPhone tarrif. a iPhone for £19.99 and only a 12 month contract :p

with PAYG is it possible to use all features on this phone?

If your jailbreak your UK iPhone (To get it to work with other O2 sims), all features work except Visual Voicemail.

Oh, and you'll also have to pay for your data usage.

I'm just waiting for the DHL person to come around.

Really hope there's an open Wi-Fi nearby, I'm still waiting for my Wi-Fi kit to be posted.

[edit] Damn, no open wireless nearby :o, my Jailbreaking is going to have to wait.

And, can you believe that I don't have a single paperclip in the house?

So, I bit the bullet and signed up for the iPhone tariff, I've got two weeks to decide if I'll keep that. Edge is faster than I'd feared, so it might be worth keeping.

My Airport Extreme card hasn't shown up (that's the last time I buy something from eBay just to save a few quid!), hopefully it'll have arrived and I'll have it jailbroken by then.

One thing I like, that's a pretty small detail, is that the audio out on the dock is line-level, where with my old nano it was headphone level. Probably something someone coming from a full-size iPod wouldn't notice.

The email is really good, I've got my .Mac and GMail accounts set up with IMAP, so making changes on the iPhone and watching Mail on the Mac update itself is pretty neat :)

I'll add some more later ;)

Hey Rich,

Just rang that number as my account is still in arrears and found out that that they couldn't do anything to the account as i bought it from an O2 shop!!! The guy i rang before said he would cancel it and delete my account.

She said i had to go into the damn shop and sort it out there!!! O2 are a bunch of cowboys! I swear there help staff is split in 3, Email Staff-Who know nothing, O2 shops and phone staff, none are linked whatsoever. It's like the company in each different sector is a different company altogether. Grrrr!

Emails did nothing, Calls have done nothing, lets see if O2 sop will do something.

Sounds like a complete arse, good luck though mate :)

Have been charged £36 this month via DD and apparently will get a refund next month as the £36 bill was produced before i returned the phone. Also still have been refunded the cost of the handset. Wish me luck...!

Right, i went into the store today and told em my story! :p

They were a bit confused as it says cease contract on the receipt. I said that phone support said i should come in here as they can't do it over the phone. The guy called the same phone support that i had called, it may of been retail support though, not sure. He hung up like 3 times as it was a person that couldn't even understand him. I quietly chuckled. After trying to get to the bottom for ten minutes he got his supervisor.

His supervisor tried to pass the blame onto me as i had cancelled the Direct Debit on the account and that it was needed to bill me for the calls i did, roughly 10 seconds. He then rang up retail support again being juggled between many different departments.

He finally finished the phone conversation and told it that it's all been sorted and because i had barely used it i wouldn't get billed for the time i used it, Wicked!. Bit skeptical though. He also said that i may get a letter through saying im in arrears still but to ignore it.

Im a bit skeptical to see if the contract has been cancelled.

Walked into an apple store about a week ago, bought an iPhone and now am running it with my simplicity sim. Best phone I ever owned! Yes, it has it's faults, but I'd never swap this for a sodding n95!

my thoughts exactly, I got an N95 on a contract, with the purpose of keeping it if I liked it, found it a complete pain. Menu is so slugish, screen is to small to use the phones features properly, and it just felt very poorly made.

promptly sold it and raised enough cash that the iPhone cost me £25 to buy, it does have its faults but oveall im chuffed to bits with it.

the new text forwarding util has fixed one of the major bugbears, heres hoping a MMS util comes out soon.
