There is far more to listening to radio than listening to music on it (which I never do). I like listening to sport and talk radio when on the train especially going up to or coming back from football games. Just because FM isn't a priority for you doesn't mean it isn't to me.

You're probably in the minority then. Also if you really had to you could probably access radio via WiFi, or by means of the internet.

I think it will be a success. It certainly pushes some pioneering ideas. A phone has never had this much coverage at all. Even if it is crap, it'll certainly sell a lot before people realise that!

I listen to 20 minutes of Radio 4 every morning and evening as I walk to work - in fact I listen to far more radio on my MP3 player than MP3s. I wouldn't buy an MP3 player without FM and I'm annoyed my phone (Treo 650) doesn't have FM.

WiFi generally doesn't work that well on a train unless you've pulled up outside someone's house who has an open access point. ;) Internet, well I could do but there is the hassle of setting it up and having a stable connection good enough for streaming on a train journey. Then there is the cost of data.

I'm not saying it won't be a success, not at all, just that FM is high up on the priority list to me and probably some others.

Well personally and obviously for the majority (otherwise apple would have put one in) its not a priority. Why not just buy a mini £2 radio..

Ahh fair enough. You say hassle of setting up the internet; but at the end of the day you wouln't really buy an iPhone if you didn't go ahead with the 'hassle' of setting it up anyway :)

Yeah I listen to a fair bit of radio too actually, but not fussed if I have it on the move.
 
I think the iPhone looks great, but I wouldn't buy one simply because it lacks a keypad. I think you need tactile feedback to make something easy and comfortable to use, and with only touchscreen controls, the iPhone lacks this completely. I'm a fast texter, and trying to type using a touchscreen would infuriate me no end.
 
I hope it really takes off, all other current phones are pretty much monkey poo at the moment. Lets shake it up :D

Id be interested in battery life? All that bling has gotta suck some juice for sure?
 
Lack of 3G, radio, closed platform and the fact the I don't trust Apple batteries are the things that would hold me back from getting one.

I've just got a w950i and I can't see anything this phone would offer over that, and the SE will be a year old by the it arrives.

It's still going to sell by the bucket load though, just because it's Apple.

Hope the screen doesn't scratch like the nano.....

Really can't see the point of this phone, yes it'll have the nice Mac OS on it but so many people don't like it. The same way people don't like motorola, the phone will be so out of date by the time it releases. Even clearance handsets will be a better choice than this phone when its released. If they're launching later on in the year they need at least a 5mp camera to go along with it.

The memory is impressive, but again phones are on their way to getting that kind of memory on their own. Walkman is also a very estiblished brand in the mobile market now too and its what average joe wants when listening to music.

Check out the vid I posted on the top of this page, it shows you the 'keypad', it looks pretty responsive and quick actually, it comes with error correction too.:cool:

That doesn't prevent it from having no tactile feedback though. If I'm pressing a button, I like to feel that I'm actually pressing a button, i.e, some movement, and a click sound.

The ipods up to 3g didnt have the best battery life, after that they improved and often beat the stated figures. My 5g lasts very reasonably.

From a review site:

"Typing is difficult. The letter keys are just pictures on the glass screen, so of course there’s no tactile feedback.

Software helps a lot. You can afford to make a lot of typos as you muddle through a word, because the software analyzes which keys you *might* have meant and figures out the word you wanted. Its best guess appears just under what you’ve typed; if it’s correct, you tap the Space bar to accept it and continue. I typed a couple of e-mail messages with lots of typos but eventually 100 percent accuracy, thanks to this auto-correct feature. (My testing didn’t involve proper names, however.)"
