iRacing

Just had another good race in the Skippy.

Basically a three car race that became a two car race with very good respect. Started 10th and finished 7th. Was 5th at one point but didn't have the speed to break the tow. I've found myself being a bit more restrained during races and it's paying off.

I found that even the GT3 prcatice has become a lot more respectful than in the past. You always get the odd one that doesn't know what F3 does or cares, but it's generally a good experience.

What time did you race? I was in the 8.15 top split, qualified 19th and finished 11th. It's rather funny me in the top split, I'm no where near the pace, my fastest lap was 2.35.400. But I'm consistent and don't make too many mistakes and I'm happy to drive past damaged cars. :p Wheel update, Thrustmaster have asked for a photo of the label on the bottom and proof of purchase. Slight problem is that I've deleted the emails from OCUK confirming the order.

I was in the 7:15pm race.

I'm around the 2:35.00 pace, maybe a touch faster when I string a good lap together. My optimal is in the high 2:33's but I can't see me going that fast unless it's in the draft.

Maybe use the customer service forum and ask them if it's possible to resend the emails you need. Or try to login into your OcUK account and see if the information you need is there. It'll certainly have your order numbers.

Slightly off topic ...

Can anyone recommend a decent headset?

I've been using a chat app called Mumble for team communication when iRacing. I prefer to have it set so it triggers with voice activity, however I'm told the mic on my current headset (Corsair HS1 I think) apparently picks up a lot of background noise from the room, mainly the pedals and wheel noise when in operation and starts broadcasting.

been a while since i used mumble, but isnt there some sort of sensitivity setting?
Im guessing you're using voice activated, and thats when its picking up the background noise?

If you have a foam mic 'cap' from an old set of headphones, you could try sliding it onto the mic on your headset. I have the Logitech G35's which have an open mic, and i removed the foam end off my old Creative headset mic.

I found that it helped with little sighs and sniffs, it'd pick them up, but with the foam its less sensitive. Not quite the same as background noise of a FFB wheel & pedals, but could help.

They're working on the Aston Martin GT3 & GT1 at the moment along with the GP & Nordschleife layouts of the Nurburgring. As always with iRacing, paid products come first. Actually improving the service? Nah.

The dynamic weather (and by proxy everything else you mentioned) will most likely follow DX11, which is due after the UI update.

So, to cut a long story short; nope, and it's still a very, very long way off. A year or so minimum I'd guess.

Technically there is 'dynamic weather', just limited currently. The only bits that change are Temperature, Humidity, Wind speed and direction (and possibly cloud cover?).

They may be improving that as next season the series that have a qualifying session as part of the race session (so Skippy, Star Mazda etc) will also have 'dynamic weather' as well.

But no rain, or track evolution (although that wouldn't have much effect on a sprint race as most of them are) as yet and probably a decent way off.

You going to be posting up any info? I got as far as building a couple of lovely arcade controllers a few years ago, never built a complete machine.

Nothing that elaborate, nowhere near.

I've got an old dual core PC, a Bang & Oulfsen CRT TV and an X Arcade dual stick. Most of the work has been configuring the front end software to work exclusively with the stick and getting all the emulators working with the same stick. Plus getting all the game images for the front end to match the with the games. Getting the PC connected to the TV was a ball ache as well. I've still got some tinkering to do, but it's mostly working as I'd like.

Very good. What front end are you using? I used Hyperspin a while back but it was a lot of work to get it all configured.

Maximus Arcade.

I've tried Hyperspin in the past and couldn't get it working properly.

MA is quite basic in terms of looks, but I've got it working with everything I've tried. I have found that almost every time I add something new I have to restart the PC. I don't know if that's down to MA itself or something else.

But basically you configure the emulator before adding it to MA, then point MA to the exe and any other required folders.

Can't really say much more as emulator talk isn't allowed on here. Though technically MA isn't an emulator.

There's a 30 day trial of the full program, after that it's $25. I still have 22 days left to see if I'm prepared to pay for a front end or not. I'm guessing I will now I have it all set up.

Anyone bought the Aston GT1?

I gave the Corvette another go last night, but I'm not good enough to drive it. Maybe with more dedicated practice.

So if the Aston is similar them I don't think I'll buy it.

Not yet, still in the process of doing the new house/office space and will be for a while it seems :p

I do quite like the 'vette though so quite looking forward to it.

The new Aston is really nice in my opinion, although I gave it a try without any pedals!

Easier than the Vette to drive but hard on the edge, it wants to steer with the throttle on corner exit if pushed hard.

It looks and sounds stunning too.
