I found a 3 months free code :) if I want to complete a rookie series, say the mazda cup, how much extra will i need to pay for tracks?

I believe the rookie series races are all run on circuits that are included free, so you should be able to spend a few months getting to grips with it without having to spend a penny.

Some of the other series that use included cars also use the included tracks regularly as well. There's no doubt you could race every week without having to buy extra content. But I doubt you'd be able to complete a full 12 week season in any series without buying a track or two.

Just remember that any extra content you purchase is only available while your subscription is active.

Did a couple of races last night. GT1, GT3 and Skippy.

GT1 was ok, had an unavoidable collision on lap one and ended up with front end damage that was costing me 4 seconds a lap. Was lapping consistently, but in last place until I threw it off the road and got stuck in the barrier.

GT3 race was better, but again I had a spin by myself and ended up last after making up 3 or 4 places at the start. Caught a pack of four up and had some really close and clean racing until the my pit stop for fuel.

Skippy was a disaster. Started last because I'm a lot slower than everyone else in my split. Had axle an start, made up a couple of places. Then in the last chicaine I could see a it all kicking off so I slowed more than normal. Didn't make any difference. The driver who started it all off rejoined the track like a moron and tagged more than one car and caused a total wreck fest. Had to make a pit stop due to damage and again lapped to the end in last place.

I think I'm going to to stick with GT1 and 3, should be able to do one after another with the start times.

Had another look a the Fanatec site last night. I don't know how they stay in business. Their wheel base has been out of stock for months unless you had an invite. Now it's back in stock all the wheel rims are out of stock apart from the older BMW and formula rims.

The new V3 pedals look interesting.

I've been looking at the Elite pedals and they've been out of stock for months. They don't want my money.

I've been trying to learn the GT1 Aston for this last week, and so far I don't really like it. My main issue is with the FFB - or lack of. There's just no feeling. It's like the steering column is made from jelly. I don't understand how there can be more bumps and road feeling when driving in a straight line than there is when going round corners or over kerbs?

Even when you're pushing the car like a moron and make the front slide, the only way you can tell what's happening is visually and through the tyre squeal. There seems to be no change in the steering resistance at all.

At this point I'm not sure if it's just my wheel, as no one else seems to be having issues like this. I can barely break in to 42s around the Glen on a race setup this week :(

I don't know if you watch Empty Box on YouTube, but he said the same about the FFB on the Aston.

I couldn't say one way or another. I dont mess about with any of the FFB settings in the game or the on my wheel itself. I just drive everything as it is.

I would say that since I've mounted my wheel in my Obutto, I can certainly feel more through the wheel than before, when it was bolted to the desk.

When driving the GT3 cars I have always nearly doubled the FFB (Strength & Minimum) so I have some feeling in them compared to what I usually drive (C-Spec) I imagine it would be the same for the GT1 when I get chance to test properly.

Thanks Muska, I tried that and it helped. Still nowhere in the GT1 though :)

I was tempted back to the new fixed RUF Cup by Mosport this week. The setup isn't bad, although the brakes are waaaay more forward than I'd like them. It's much more consistent over a race distance than any setup I've ever made though. Plus, it helped me do this:

Yay! Now to go and destroy it in IMSA and GT1 :D

After a few years of console-only gaming, recently with FM5 and FH2 on xbox one, really looking to get into sim racing. Especially loving the hour long in-depth reviews of gorgeous kit by barry at sim racing garage. I think I would love iRacing, as my preferred racing on FH2 is the short tracks, and great when playing with good, clean racers.

Think I'll sign up for a 3 month iracing membership to learn what its about and get advice on kit, rig setup.

Off-topic, but considering the Obutto R3volution. Grateful for feedback on whether it really is an alternative to a traditional workstation for hours of work in comfort. Cheers.

I absolutely love iracing. Paid £1 for a 3 month trial just to try it out with my new g27. 3 days later and I have a years sub from steam for £13, 2 new cars and a new track bought.

Never ever thought I would say this, but the oval racing is outstanding, especially when you get into the top split and everyone has a fair bit of rookie experience.

Tried the Mazda cup, which I would have thought would have been ideal for me, as I have a bit of race experience irl, but it seemed a bit meh. Far too much understeer in the fixed racing. Just need to get out of rookie for that and work my way up to RUF or something similar.

Def recommend iracing to anyone whop enjoys online racing..

If any new member wants a join code then iRacing have a promo on and will the me $10 for referring you, I'll send that to you (its iRacing credits) so you can put it towards your first track/car for once you're out of rookies.

Sim Racing Garage is like man cave porn!

I use an Obutto rev, I spend far too many hours in it but I'll make a more detailed post about it tomorrow.

Dont know how much I'll be racing in the first few months, as I dont even own a wheel yet - looking at various options and one of the reasons I want to get onto iracing forums, for the research. But if you atr happy to share the code, that would be welcomed :)

Would be great to have some feedback on the Obutto Rev Muska - I dont have space for both a traditional desk and a sim cockpit, but I develop code for a living, so important to know how comfy the rev can be sitting hours at a time using keyboard and mouse. Much appreciated.

When you complete the sign up there will be a space to put a referrers email address, I'll trust you that now. If you can gn up for 3, 6 or 12 months you'll get the credits. If you sign up before the end of the month then iRacing have an offer on for half price 12 months subscription, so $50. (Edit, that offer is for a re-sub only. So your have to sign up and then use that code, found on the home page)

Barmy on here uses a rev too, in sure between us both we can give you a fair appraisal.

Buy an Obutto Revolution.

It really is as good as they say it is and yes you can replace your desk with one and use it to sim race, play normal games and for office tasks/surfing.

Managed to set up Gran Turismo 6 on three screens tonight.

Fairly straightforward to set up.

Took some tweaking setting the FOV and screen angles and updating two other PS3's with the latest GT6 updates took two days, but it's actually very good.

My only problem is all three machines have to be linked together via a LAN and I think other network traffic was reducing the total bandwidth available over the LAN switch and was causing slight pauses now and again.

Thanks barmy and Muska, Im now convinced on the Obutto, will order one today.

Next quandry is wheel choice. Initially I was going to go for the Fanatec CSW V2 with xbox one hub, to give me best of both worlds with console and PC compatibility. Nervous however With fanatecs reputation for quality control.

Starting to get sucked into the buzz about direct drive - Accuforce, and the OSW looks very tempting. Thanks to barry from sim racing garage for that, my wallet is nervous too!

I did a lot of research on sim rigs before I bought the Obutto Revolution, simply because whatever I bought needed to be a good sim rig and a viable desk replacement.

If you've got any specific questions or need photos just ask.

The new Fanatec CSW Base V2 has quite a few upgraded parts versus the V1, so I wouldn't be that concerned about build quality anymore. I've got the V2 pedals and they've been ok so far. I think it's like a lot of things, unhappy customer shout louder than happy ones, so you always hear more bad things than good.

If they hadn't put their prices up much recently and if I had the spare cash, then I'd buy the V2 base to add to my pedals. As it stands I have a T500 and if I want to play on the PS3 I can't use my V2 pedals. Swapping pedal sets back and forth in the Obutto is a non starter really, so my V2 pedals are gathering dust at the minute.

If you go down the direct drive route then you'll forego console compatibility.
