Anyone know of a thread regarding racign sim setups? I'm lookign for wheel/pedal/chair suggestions, for iracing, parting pro sim and a few others

There's a few threads on the official forum, but its a maze and mostly centered for the Americans. Whats the budget you're looking to spend?

I've looking at used G27s on eBay. After that probably £200 on a chair/wheelstand.

Know much on this one?

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £96.05
(includes shipping: £11.10)

That quickly put an end to the 'Obutto' chants in my head. Great product, but firmly outside that price range unfortunately.

3 things have always stopped me buying a 'cockpit' setup in the past:
- The 'affordable' ones around the £200 range were chairs and a wheel stand, and not appropriate for working at, playing non-racing games etc, which means it needs to go somewhere else, possibly with a 2nd system... not practical for me or cheap.
- They tend to be fairly flimsy looking pipes, like a cheap deck chair almost, and maybe they're perfectly rigid in reality, but without being able to see and try it to know, its a lot of hassle to return if you're unhappy and its just as you suspected.
- There wasnt a decent one that was affordable, multi-purpose, looked like it was solid, and somewhat versatile to what *I* wanted, not what some else assumed we'd all like.

The Obutto R3v isnt exactly affordable at £600+ (iirc) but i found out about it at the same time i'd found out about Star Citizen and was bought a front row seat on the hype train, and just happened to have some money to splurge (which happens maybe every 3yrs) and it all fell into place nicely. Im able to have it set in a way that i can have a HOTAS exactly where i'd want it for flying, a keyboard in the ideal place to switch to FPS (essential in SC), and the wheel can be in the correct spot. The only thing that i'd change is the joystick would be removed when not needed, but when it was everything else was fine to stay put. Im also working from this setup too, spending 8-12hrs there.

I've loved sim racing since i was around 10-12yo and F1GP was around, and its stupid that having never had any interest in flying or space games, its a space game that pushed me to buy a proper setup. I think part of my rational was that if i bought a cheap one i'd likely be disappointed and it'd be harder to justify buying a 2nd one, whereas buying a quality item once should last me decades, and i hate the idea of wasting money on a something (i wont use $100+ iR credit on a sub cos i feel like i'll stop playing for the same reasons as last time, so wont buy a short sub cos its more per month, or buy a 1yr sub cos i'll probably not use it all, so its doing nothing - which is equally stupid!).

Hope you find something that fits your needs.

I think I'm done until next season.

First race for a nearly two weeks and I get fubar by netcode.

At this rate I won't be renewing my sub at the end of the year. I'm getting truly fed up with constant paid for content updates, yet the service remains flaky at best and downright broken and unavailable at worst.

It's not as if the service is free and you pay for content only.

Going to miss Philip Island in the gt3 class. Been quite good for me apart from one stupid mistake.

Gained 1.6 SR and 160 IR. Would have been 270 IR if I hadn't put a back wheel on the grass in the pace lap, accelerated and spun then got hit while trying to roll back into the grass. Such a noob mistake to make, couldn't believe I had done it.

Oops! I really like Philip island too, it's a great looking track with some nice elevation changes and that sea view!

I've had some problems with stuttering really badly lately, perhaps due to updating drivers for some other games I recently bought and trying to practice at Donny for RUF Cup has become impossible in parts of the track, turning down all manor of setting has made no difference. I'm really hoping next season DX11 will at least fix that, even if it wont look all that differently.

It's every lap, down the back straight coming up to the chicane, which made it harder to judge correctly and a couple times at other points in the lap. Maybe it is time for a clean format of everything.

Turn off all mirrors apart from virtual to see if that helps. Even after a clean install of everything I still run with mirrors off, despite a high end PC specs.

I did give that a shot and going back to Nurb GP it was the only way to get acceptable frame rates around that track but it didn't cure the stuttering here unfortunately, only raised the max fps I was getting.

I tried a lot of things but didn't roll back my drivers as it's really too much of a pain with all the different things I play.

We've got similar spec PC's running the same resolution so I know how frustrating the stuttering can be. I used to get it more in races than practice as well, despite joining full practice sessions to test different settings. It made race starts very difficult with the input lag that the stuttering creates.

Yes, I definitely wouldn't like to chance racing like this. It's never the same with every track, bit of a lottery it seems!

Lets hope what the dev's have been saying about DX11 booting performance in problem areas is true :)

Really strange that stuttering effect. I have a lowly 970 G1 alongside a 2500k @ 4.4 and the only stuttering I get is at the final corner of the GP version of the ring. Everything is as maxed as it can be within iracing and have 26 cars visible.

That's with iracing at 3440x1440 as well.

It's really weird, back when it first came out I went down to 1 monitor to record this race

and didn't drop below about 100 in the problem areas, which for me were the main straight of the GP track followed by quite reduced performance till you got onto the Nordschleife. For the race I turned loads of settings down but this replay is maxed and even the car paints uncompressed.

It felt like a cracking race between me an Philip Jan Weed by the way! :D

On a side note, how good does iRacing look at your resolution? Have you tried it with the paints uncompressed? I'd love to go 1440p but the cost to maintain 144hz at that resolution scares me!

There's a chance it may well be related to using triple screens and the fact that one screen is connected via HDMI-HDMI and the other two via Display Port-HDMI cables. Maybe it's a sync issues of some sort.

I'm glad you've said that, as it was always nagging me that it could be a cable or connection issues. But if you're using 3 DP's then I think I'm inclined to agree that that's not the issue.

The fact that other sims don't have the same issue over three screen sort of confirmed it wasn't that anyway.

From what I've been reading on the forums, people are saying it's a memory issue with Win 8.1 and 10. If you drop both the memory sliders in game to 2Gb or below (Max 4Gb across both) it is supposed to help with stuttering. It did help on my machine, but it hasn't entirely cured it. I'm hoping DX11 is the magic bullet.
