iRacing

I had stuttering on Windows 7 as well.

I don't have it as much now, after the clean install of Windows 10 and everything else, but it's still there in places.

Thanks Spunkey, I did try that but to no avail, at least it sounds like they know about it then, it seemed a bit out of the blue for me.

AC by contrast runs very consistently, I'm sure iRacing will get it back up to scratch. I just hope it's soon™! :D

On a side note, how good does iRacing look at your resolution? Have you tried it with the paints uncompressed? I'd love to go 1440p but the cost to maintain 144hz at that resolution scares me!

Youtube video below of me driving a Kia badly :).

I would change the settings to 2160 instead of 1080.

The skins I have sety for 2048x2048 in the graphics section, is that what you mean by uncompressed?

I've looking at used G27s on eBay. After that probably £200 on a chair/wheelstand.

Know much on this one?

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £96.05
(includes shipping: £11.10)

Keep an eye on eBay. I picked up an rseat GTR with a g25 attached to it for 130 quid. The seat is really sturdy and the wheel still does the job.

I have a 32" triple monitor stand and three 32 TVs in the spare room but decided to use my man cave as a home cinema instead so haven't played in a while. Just got a Dell 3415 though so going to get that tried out hopefully it will be a decent compromise until the oculus comes out :D

Ended up going with a playseat champion and a G29.

I'm using a 28" screen and finding it particularly hard to be immersed and especially judge speed. Do people find it easier with curved/multiple screens?

It's certainly a more immersive experience with 3 screens but you can so set the correct FOV with 1 monitor and that will help with depth perception and send of speed etc.

Out of interest, what FOV is everyone using on a single screen? Also, I'm looking at getting a larger monitor when I get my new desk - what's people's thoughts on the curved ones for iRacing?

I'm not sure I would go for a curved screen personally, but I'm sure they're nice. I'd rather spend the money on 3 cheap screens and probably spend about the same to have a triple setup :)

As for the FOV, it's relative to the distance from your eyes to the screen etc, have a look at these links for a better understanding and calculator :)

The way my setup is it tells me i shoudl have about 50 degree FOV, i think its because im too far away, i cant move the screen closer because of the pedals

Curved screen would be ok if you had three of them.

The Gadget show did an experiment on curved vs flat TV's and basically the perceived "pleasure" difference lasts a couple of minutes.

I bought my curved dell for work but thinking it might double as a reasonable substitute not because of the curve so much as the width. But yeah won't be nearly as immersive

Here's my setup, I think because I'm sat so low/ stretched out, the screen is then too far away?

Yeah, the problem is because you're so far away from the screen. I'd guess if you set the correct FOV right now you'd hardly be able to see anything, so you'd probably have to use a slightly wider FOV than ideal, which will affect your perception of speed and also where you expect the wheels to be.

Ideally the screen should be just behind the wheel and the FOV should match the angles from your eyes to the outer edges of the screen, so a closer monitor or triples allows you a much wider angle.

Just in case you're not subscribed to inside sim racing on youtube, here is a good example of the new Merc GT3 running on DX11.

Car looks and sounds good and iracing looks to be running very stable too :D

That looks awesome. Hopefully we can really turn up the graphics with some extras from DX 11. Iracing does look kinda old, I know it's all about the racing but it would be good to have updated visuals.

Looks great, the new cars are tempting me back to GT3 for next season

Trouble is I'm guessing even more people will come to GT3 to try out the new cars so a higher chance or idiots driving!

C'mon howler get back into it. The participation is awesome, and I have found it to be relatively clean driving, of course accidents happen such as my post a few above, but in general it is more than acceptable. My last 3 races totalled 5 inc points and that was me going off track under pressure.

I'm leaning towards the Audi I think, mainly because the merc will be very smart I think to the bmw which I drive just now.
