If you're anything like me you'll never learn :)

Although mine is continuing to enter races when I'm clearly just not on form, good way to lose huge chunks of SR :p

yeah ill never learn, its too damn addictive.

i think im doing well tho to say ive only been on iracing for less than 2 months as it was/is a big learning curve, im always learning and getting faster...

i need a new pit crew mine never fix my car so its proper drivable...

josh did you get disconnected from the 9.30 race??

i was spectating and loving watching your battle with pierre and then you got past him then on the last chicane you just vanished.

what does "Received Throughput Fell to an Unacceptable Level" mean???

Yep :( PC crashed, thought the room was getting toasty, heating kicked in it seems and obviously my cpu overclock was a bit too marginal :p

I think I could've stayed ahead of Pierre, but not Jacob, and I think I might've been able to battle with Johannes which would've put me 3rd/4th/5th :(

But I did reconnect, and glad I did, came out of the pits in 14th, finished the race in 9th after a last lap pass on the outside into the chicane, was a thing of beauty :p

The 'received throughput' thing is basically the server hasn't received anything in too long, eg connection is completely broken rather than just lagging, like when your pc decides to crash...

And now I'm going to turn the heating off :p

i was watching the last lap and that pass was wicked mate spot on i was shouting at me screen "go on go on josh"...quality.

pierre was being abit dirty infront of you IMO, especially on 1 lap on the last chicane he lost his back end slightly and lost time so you were a tiny bit in front but he just cut you up...

yeah mine crashed the other day, my pc runs abit hot anyway, but it crashed on a black screen but the sound continued then the sound crashed and looped...

Yeah, I wasn't sure whether to be that aggressive but knew ultimately I had the pace to do it, looked in my mirror and looked like it got quite close there, still it's all good :p

Pierre and me have had a few close races now, with a few incidents, don't think he's intentially dirty but he does sit firmly on the line between very aggressive and a 'bit' dirty, but cause I know him it's not a huge issue and just makes it that much sweeter if/when I do eventually get past :D

I've dropped the overclock by a bit so hopefully be fine now...

yeah pierre is a nice chap and a good racer but just thought id point that out...

i dont know if my crash was down to heat tho, as it did it about 3 times when i first went triple screen, so i reconfigured the gfx setting and it hasnt done it till yesterday,i have core temp running constantly but obviously i cant see the temps on it as its crashed lol, but my gpu,s dont go above 60 degrees...

got my 2600k running @ 4.5 on a vcore of 1.34...

I'm pretty much assuming mine is cpu, could possibly be gpu (6950 with 6970 bios and overclock, on stock cooler, got an upgraded cooler waiting to be fitted). I also run coretemp, should probably turn on logging really.

E8400 running at 4.2GHz, 1.35v iirc on a Kuhler 620.

Yeah, definitely uses the cpu heavily, especially if you've got the 'render three screens' bit checked which I do.

I do have Afterburner installed but generally don't use it, might start if it becomes a regular problem, might just install the cooler tomorrow anyway, bought it a few weeks ago just not quite got around to fitting it yet.

yeah i use the render 3 screens aswell.

ive got 1 referance cooler 580 and 1 aftermarket 1 they dont go above 60 degrees in iracing so i know its not that and every time i turn off iracing core temp is on my left screen and ive never seen a temp above 58 degrees on my cpu...

so i dont know what it is i dont think its a sound prob as the sound continues, mine crashes to a black screen, mine did it last night but hasnt since and ive used it a lot today, done 3 races...

Hi guys,

I often check this thread to vicariously enjoy your iRacing experiences. I have about 9 months left on an iRacing sub that I just don't use. I've competed in one race online but found it quite a lonely experience and didn't really enjoy it.

Can you give me some pointers as to how I could go about using and enjoying my subscription? How should I practice, what race type to start with etc? I'd really appreciate your input.

Thanks

Rob

I'm guessing you're still a Rookie? If so it's the MX-5's, use the online practice sessions to get up to speed with other people around, using the timing charts to see how you fair, but overall just make sure you can be consistent.

And once you can lap consistently just enter races, yeah you'll get some lonely ones where you settle into a position and that's it, but then you'll get ones where you're in a close battle all the way through the race, just depends who joins.

If you want constant close battles though you'll either need a very well populated series like the Skip Barber/Star Mazda which will almost always have multiple splits (meaning a closer spread of drivers per split), or switch to short track ovals, there you're almost guaranteed to be within half a second of another driver, possibly 2, for an entire race :p
