QStarting off in this game is expensive. I guess the cost does pale in comparison to the triple screens I want :/

Cannot wait to try the Rift CV1. This looks so damn good:
Go triples! The Oculus is waaay overrated IMO. Admittedly I only have had access to a DK1 and 2, but the poor resolution, RGB colour splitting and the feeling of watching the environment through a venetian blind completely killed all sense of immersion for me to the point where I'm more than happy to stick with 60hz triples over any current VR headset.

I'll be happy to try again in a few years time when the technology has had time to evolve, but for this current generation it's just not good enough for anything bar a couple of tech demos.

I'm sure that triples are superior to VR at the moment, but I have a Dell U2713H which presents a few problems:

1) The bezels are huge.
2) It's 1440p which means I need two more 27" monitors.
3) They don't make U2713Hs anymore, and I'd really like 3 identical monitors.

Getting 3 new monitors and a triple monitor arm is going to cost a bomb, and it's going to need a lot of space. If I had a 120cm desk instead of 80cm, I could get away with putting them on the desk.

This is almost more hassle than driving a normal car :P

3 x Dell S2716DG monitors would be so awesome:

The one race I am really looking forward to with my new setup is Indy cars @ Daytona at night! Week 12 cannot come quick enough for that race week there, gonna be epic!

@thewanted - thanks for posting that vid with the dell TNs. Having 3x1080p 6 year old 24" NEC monitors, driven by a GTX680, im on the lookout for new monitors and GPU. QA of current IPS gsync monitors seems to be really poor at moment, had a concern about how TN panels would work in a triple monitor setup but that looks good.

On fence on whether to hold out another 9 months for new pascal and displayport 1.3 monitors to become availlable.

They look amazing, right? It's not that I can't afford £1500 for monitors, but it's a rather frivolous use of money and I don't have a proper rig for them.

I'll hold out for VR support and then compare the two before dropping any cash.

My understanding of TN vs IPS is basically the vertical viewing angles is the main difference, and the area where TN sucks. But for triples, as long as you're not above/below the centre point of the monitors it's the horizontal viewing angles that matter, which are fine on TN afaik?

I've got an ancient triples setup using Samsung T260's, which are both TN panels and have mahoosive bezels, not ideal but it works fine, and as mentioned the only downside seems to be viewing angles but that only comes about if I slouch back on my chair between races...

Seem to not have much time for racing at the moment, only got time to run the FR2.0 but have finally managed to get my iRating above 2k this weekend

I think I have membership till 2017 after purchasing a year then they had it over 50% off soon after so bought another. I haven't played iracing in a while due to wanting to race FR2.0 but not willing to pay the money for it. But the other racing games just don't do it for me as much as Iracing.

Lol those guys have a serious sense of humour

You are going to wait a long time for that BTCC stuff as Honda didn't want to hand over the data.

RallyCross and Dirt could be interesting considering the occasionally LOL-worthy collision physics on billiard table smooth tracks . (See BSR Touring Cars on Motors TV!)

Finally got round to buying the FR. Where do people get their set ups for tracks or do you do them yourselves?

I just use the included high, medium and low downforce iRacing setups, all the others I've tried so far are a bit too loose for me.

Just had a lucky win in the Skippy, was running forth all race while the top three raced close together. They were a bit too quick for me and the closest I got was with in 2 seconds. On the last lap they finally took each other out on the long back straight.

I love Iracing again.

First race tonight, was one of the fastest in 2nd top split in the FR2. Had to really slow down at the start due to the dive bombers etc. Started 21st as I didn't qualify, by lap 3 I was 9th, guy in front of me got a tiny bit of sdlip on going into Ascari, he let off I tucked inside of him then he gunned it to try anmd make the exit corner. I have to go to the left, hit the raised kerb and spin into the wall. I was raging as I could have caught 2nd place probably.

Last race, 3rd split due to the 100 odd loss of IR previously. Qualified first, 2nd place got a great start. I let him have corner one and he overshoots over the grass, slow down penalty. I drive away and manage the gap to roughly 4 seconds over the next few laps. Put a couple of decent laps in, and expanded the gap to 7 secs, a back marker came out of the pits as I was passing, he gets in front of 2nd place. I look at my relative 5 seconds later and the 2nd place guy is now greyed out :(

Last few laps I cruised round for my first FR 2.0 win with 0 incidents. Perfect race meet for me :)

^^

Nice one.

What sort of lap times are you managing? I ran about 25 laps of practice with race fuel and 2 litres and my best was a 1:50.9 with an optimal of 1:50.2. As a comparison the fastest times were around 1:49.5.

In that race I think it was a 1.51. I wasn't pushing as hard as I could do.

Practice with default I was doing 1.49.1. Late afternoon session I was doing 1.48 dead.

Optimal late afternoon is a 1.46.9, default is a 1.48.6.

Quite surprised at the dirt/rallycross stuff, saw the announcement on the 1st and thought lol, wind up the n00bs, and then the joke seems to be it wasn't a joke, still not sure I fully believe it ¬_¬ :D

Did my first/only race at PI last night, was a bit meh, qualified 9th, couple of minor incidents dropped me back a bit but the main issue came into T1 around 5 laps before the end, got the draft and alongside someone, was a bit cautious into the corner (but clearly not cautious enough) and the other guy just came across my nose, clipped my wing and sent us both off. luckily I had no real damage and he clearly did, so quickly past and up the road, made up 3 spots on the last lap to finish somewhere around 12th iirc. Minor claim to fame in that Rubens Barrichello was in the race (and I checked and it does appear to be the *actual* Rubens.) He Won. :p

There's a thread on the FR section of the iRacing forums with plenty of setups, there's a guy there (Soto) that makes setups that seem to suit me...

If it is the real Rubens, then I've been in a couple of races and practice session with him also.

Tried a couple of set ups from the forum, went quicker with the low downforce iRacing setup.
