iRacing

I was thinking about the Blancpain Endurance series.

I have every car, so whatever car we all have I'm good to go.

Preference would be Audi, BMW the McLaren.

But if anyone has any other suggestion then I'm easy to go with whatever we all think is best.

I have arrived onto the iRacing scene!

Purchased the AMG GT3, Silverstone, Spa and Nurburgring.

Do we hold practice session on here?

I'd be up for some BES/Endurance races, plenty of experience doing them so happy to jump in for whatever and just have fun.

Fair, if you're brand new to iRacing, you'll only be able to race in the rookie series right now till you improve your licence rating. You won't be able to race at Silverstone with the AMG in Official races till you have the correct licence class. Can explain in more detail if you need to know more?

Please do.

The first link is probably the best as it's from the creators of iRacing, but in a nutshell you start out with a rookie licence for Road and Oval. Yo have to finish races as cleanly as possible. What I mean by that is, with the least amount of contacts with other vehicles and 'offtracks' This will improve your safety rating, which starts at 2.5. When yo get to the required safety rating level (I forget if it's 3.0 or 3.5/4.0 for Rookies) then you'll advance to a 'D' licence. And so on p to A licence or Pro beyond that.

It's explained far better by the iRacing videos though :) All official series carry a certain licence class requirement to participate in them. So you'll often see people suggest starting from the pits in Rookies and just finishing the race cleanly to get out of them ASAP :)

Hope that helps a bit mate.

It's 4.0 for an fast-track promotion, otherwise 3.0 at the end of season with the MPR (minimum participation requirement) completed.

It's already got support of some form for the DK2 headset, and it's quite likely they'll add support for the CV1 in the next update, potentially Vive as well but they've only briefly mentioned that but more info on them working on the latest Oculus SDK for the CV1...

Knowing Iracing it's probably going to be here soon (in two years) :p I'll be sad to see Montreal go, I feel I'm starting to get the hang of it now. Managed a 2nd place in a albeit very easy split (average irating was 1400, I have 1750) Qualified 2nd and stayed there the entire race, guy who won was 0.5 secs a lap faster than me and I was 0.5 secs faster than 3rd place. I did try a few practice laps in the McLaren, I don't know I have set it up wrong but it doesn't seem to want to turn at all. Feels like I have to go proper slow to go round any corners.

Managed one and only race in the Skippy at Nords yesterday.

Lucky to finish in one piece.

Qualified 4th as #7 with several of the fastest guys not having a qualifying time. On the first lap by the time we'd reached the slow chicane early in the lap, I was still in 4th 3 seconds ahead of the pack at keeping up with the top 3 comfortably.

During the long fast section heading to the carousel I maintained 4th despite a decent tow. It's a bit narrow and usually patience pays off in this game.

After the carousel the guy in front started getting very ragged and I was lucky not to hit him on a few occasions. By the time we are approaching the second carousel the chasing pack has caught up. He then makes another mistake into the carousel and I have to go wide to avoid him and nearly go off track and into the barriers. That costs me a few places and the lost momentum looses me more on the long straight. So at the end of lap one I'm 7th and old ragged pants pits.

Starting my second lap I feel I've got much less grip than any practice or qualifying session is done all week. So mistake by me just after the slow chicane costs me another place and a x1 inc. But I'm still running and no damage. By the time I'm on on the long fast section running down to the carousel old ragged is right up my chuff. He then starts on the mic to me, basically telling me where I should let him pass because he's quicker. He then throws one up the inside through that very fast kink that's basically a tiny lift.

That's the red mist for me and I call him an idiot. Again he claims he's faster. I point out that his ragged driving cost both of us 3 seconds on lap one and we were both lucky to be still running. And if he was faster why wasn't he pulling any time on me after the carousel.

More insults swapped until he bins it into the barrier at the second carousel. The only consolation I got from his demise was he wasn't there to take me out anymore.

I then manage to chase down 7th and pass him on the long straight at the end of lap 3.

Despite the track and car combination being an absolute joy, I decided against racing again. Though I do find it perplexing that race conditions seem to offer so much less grip than any practice sessions.

Being faster does not give you some 'right' to pass. This isn't some trackday, it's racing.

If he'd have been genuinely faster then I would have made it easy for him to pass. Fighting battles you can't win costs you time and gives drivers behind as chance to catch up.

This guy was not faster and he definitely wasn't consistent or comfortable with the track conditions.

Even if he was faster he still needs to learn how to pass, being fast isn't all about laptimes it's knowing when and where you can make a pass

Seem to be a lot of people like that on iRacing that just because they have caught up with you that you should leap out of their way

I don't suppose the massive tow he was getting on that section of the lap occurred to him either.

I think iRacing sufferes from the same self entitlement that you get in a lot of online areas. It's not limited to gaming either, you get it on YouTube and forums as well. Or any other place people can voice their opinion anonimously.

I'm not usually a Skippy fan, but I do like the 'ring. So I had a go yesterday afternoon. It was fun. :D

I'm usually way off the pace then throw the skippy at the scenery by losing the back end. No such problems yesterday, had myself dialled in after a couple of practise laps. There's a monster tow to be had up the fast section before the Karussel, and down the main straight.

After a couple of good races last night (3rd & 4th) I was checking my profile and noticed that the 23rd May is my anniversary date. I was shocked to see it I'd been a subscriber for five years.

Still bouncing between 2200-2500 iRating, although this season I seem to have been able to keep out of more melees than usual.

Anyone having problems with the latest AMD drivers? They appear to be causing the sim to crash when loaded in DX11 mode. It's not so bad with the low detail tracks, but the Nurburgring is refusing to load for me unless set to DX9.

So i've had this a little over a week now. Purely taking part in Mazda Cup races - As I'm still a rookie.

I have to admit that I am really enjoying it. Its the most enjoyable online title I've played to date. The competition is top notch. Im really enjoying the little skirmishes.

I love driving the FR but the racing is seemingly getting worse and worse. If it doesn't get better in spa next season then I'm going to be looking at another series, how is the skippy these days?
