iRacing

I've tried both and although I like them, it's very difficult to be competitive. Most of the drivers in those series have been in it for a long time and both cars can be difficult to drive quickly.

The first time I drive the Star Mazda I though it was a doddle to drive. The track for that week was Monza. It wasn't until other drivers turned up and were 6 seconds faster I realised I was using the default set up with lots of downforce. When I tried a set up for that track it was a real handful.

Maybe you should download both cars and try them offline when the service goes down for maintenance tomorrow.

I know it always seem to be I'm moaning about it but I can't believe how bad the racing has been in the FRs this season, it's so frustrating to be having a decent race then be knocked off the track every race. I've never tried cars I don't have before. Don't you have to go to something like test.iracing.com. I promise no more complaining any more and only positive comments, unless it starts happening in another series. :p:p:p

Although I've complained in the past about idiot drivers and still do. I've changed my approach to races slightly and it seems to be paying off. I'm far more patient than I used to be and I pick my fights carefully.

If I start a race as the #12 car and the #2 screwed up his qualifying and starts behind me then I almost certainly not make any attempt to race him. The chances of me keeping him behind me for 25 minutes are practically zero, so what's the point of risking contact?

Last night as car #10 I raced hard and fair with the #8 and 9 car. But even then there were occasions when I made it easy for one of them to pass. You can see when they are getting a bit desperate and when they make a move it's easier to give them more room than risk contact. But when I feel there's more control from both parties then I'll race as hard as possible.

I think at one point after the first few corners I was running 7th, but the cars in front pulled away and looking at the difference in qualifying times, there wasn't much chance in me maintaining 7th unless the guys behind took each other off. So I'd already consoled myself to loosing a few places before it even happened. It certainly reduces the amount of DNF's I've had this season by racing within myself and picking my fights carefully.

I am very passive when people try to overtake me, if they have the inside line I usually give them the corner and don't fight at all if I know they are faster than me. But there is lot of people making the mistakes and then rejoing/moving as you come past can taking the both us out. The reason why I'm so annoyed is that I feel good at Interlagos, I've got reasonable pace and in my three races I've not made any mistakes bar going slightly wide. It's just other people... honestly. :p

The Radical is awesome to drive, but as mentioned it's got very low participation, which is a shame. Radical around Oulton is one of the best combos in the game imo.

I could never get on with the Star Mazda, just had no feel for it so it was either fine or I was spinning off the track, no inbetween, but lots do like/race it (or used to at least)

It's my first love of iRacing!

I have to say, of all the cars I have tried there it's far and away the most fun and involving to me, like they were made to go together. I'm referring to the C-Spec of course.

That looks right up my street :) Even though I only have a D licence at the moment, I think I'll buy it tomorrow just so that I can hotlap the Ring when I'm not in the mood to race.

RUF Cup is going back to open setups, I think it's a C licence and has a great community with when you level up :)

It only just avoided getting thrown in with another car. Tony wanted to stick it in with the Mustang and reconfigure the other cars in Grand Touring series. Then the Pony car brigade got all uppity!

The CSpec is an awesome car. It was the first series I got in to after I got out of Rookies. It really teaches you how to handle a car that lives on the edge. Make sure you learn to manually blip the throttle too, as that will come in handy for any other car in the series that's worth driving ;)

So how's everyone's season been? Persevered with learning to left foot brake, now starting to feel second nature.

Had a dismal first few races, combination of getting wrecked and taking myself out with pushing it too hard rather than backing off to secure a finish. Still have quite some way to go with racecraft, for example not getting stressed if there are faster guys behind me and catching up, I should not push hard to stay in front. But it has been rewarding to claw that iR back through more considered racing.

Of all the skippy season tracks I enjoyed Nordsleife Industriefahrten, spent hours learning it, and what a joy of a rollercoaster track is when you start to get the hang of it. I actually got a win there, albeit in low SoF, but a win is a win. Always enjoy Zandvoort too.

Thought I'd treat myself to some custom liveries too. I so enjoyed the latest season of daredevil on Netflix I commissioned liveries paying homage to the Daredevil and the Punisher, for the Skippy, FR2 and Merc. here's the Punisher Merc, evil!

Anyone up for a week 13 OCUK get together on iRacing - would propose Skippy at Zandvoort or Bathurst?

I said I wouldn't but I did a final race of FR and it actually went ok, got a 9th place after a mistake from me when I was in 6th. Nice to see my IRating go up and some good clean racing for once.

I posted earlier about my season.

I have to agree that the Skippy at Nords was a definite highlight.

Starting to take the same approach as you, racing within my own limits more than trying to stay ahead of or keep with faster guys, which will only end in tears. First finish, so they say.

As my irating slowly climbs I find myself occasionally in top splits, tough for me, and more surprising how there remains idiots in top tier too. Plays to my advantage sometimes when they wipe up and give me chance for a nice ir reward.

Would like to do some endurance, team based racing next season.

That's a nice looking paint job, fancy posting p the others?

I think I've ran only 2 official races all season! I was crashed into while leading RUF Cup and finished 4th as a result and in BES @ Spa was wrecked on lap 1 by a dive bomber! Not my best season!

If week 13 has Skippy at Bathurst, I'm in :)

I'm nearly always in the top split in the Skippy, mostly around car #10 or higher depending on the day I race. I'm occasionally in the top five iRating wise, but that only happens if I race early in the week.

It's tough to actually gain iRating for me now. My speed is where it is and unlikely to get much quicker without hours and hours of practice. Time I just don't have, so if I start and finish around my car number I either gain 10-15 or possibly even loose if everyone finishes where they are supposed to. So I really have to rely on the front runners taking each other out and having a clean race myself to make half decent iRating gains.

Hopefully I can try and maintain my iRating over season three and maybe even push it up towards the 2700 mark. I'd be really happy to finish season 3 around that number.

I will be interested in team racing but the events seem to be mostly GT3s and I've been trying the McLaren but I don't like it at all, it just doesn't seem to want to turn compared the FR. (Not a good comparison I know) Are any of the other GT3 cars less understeery?
