iRacing

Fudge me the TCR cars are hard to drive fast. Not like any real world front wheel drive car I've driven on track before. Not many people actually race them. In the 3 races I done last night there were just a couple over 100 registered for each session. I got shafted with top split every time (I'm on 2.2k but SOF of the races was 3.6k or more). Finishing way down the order in 14th/15th unfortunately isn't losing me enough iRating to go down a split either (Finished the last race last night with a +1 iRating despite finishing so low down.
You have to drive the TCR so aggressively on iracing to get the most out of it and set it up so it feels like the rear is not attached to the front, people would never do it in real life.
You have to get into the habit of braking hard to make the rear want to overtake the front, this is giving your car rotation through the corner then you use the steering wheel for the small inputs to line up to hit the apex.

Slowly piecing the parts to make my return... Joining my brother's for the endurance series at spa a few weeks ago probably helped seal the deal! I have missed it quite a bit. It's nice to see a few names I recognise in here.

So far I have a SIM Lab GT3 EVO rig with quite a few extras, I just bought a SIM Lab Speed 1 seat to replace the (still nice) seat it came with & I'm just negotiating on a Cube OMP wheel. A cheap set of Fanatec CSL elite pedals should do me for now.

It won't be long until I can donate my irating to you all :D

Right I've been test driving the MX5 at Summitpoint raceway and I take it an online "practice" is just doing laps but with other drivers?

also are all the clocks real-time? As in playing in the evening after work will only ever result in night time racing?

Definitely improving with the TCR car (Helps that my iRating has dropped from 2.2k to 1.9k) but inconsistency is my biggest flaw. Safety rating has taken a dip also as a result of silly spins and grass expeditions.

Yes, official practice is just practice with other drivers.
The in game clock moves at real speed but each race each week starts at the same in game time. There can be night races but there's not too many non team races that do race at night.
Daytona, Bathurst (early morning), Motegi are ones that you often do see night race at.

@MikeTheNative thanks. In the pitlane are cars "uncollisionable" during practices and / or races?

I did my first race yesterday, qualified 5th of 11th, avoided a corner 1 squish by holding off but went on the grass to dodge someone, and span out. I then went from 11th back to 5th over the 20 laps with one minor incident of tailing some guy too close who braked a little earlier than I would have so I shunted him right off the track as I didn't have time to react. OK lesson learned don't tail too close directly behind someone you know is slower than you. Somehow my safety rating went up a little lol.

Yeah there is no collision when in actual pit lane in both practice and races. Just make sure your not clipping another car on entry or exit.
It does look a bit unrealistic but it lets them to have more cars in pit stalls than the track should allow.

Quite a frustrating evening tonight - the first race I was put in a group that where everyone was a full second faster than me in qualifying (with pole being 3 seconds faster!) on the MX-5 race at Smith Jefferson. The second race I was in a more mixed group and I qualified midfield with 56.4s and I did some good driving and some bad driving, until on lap 5 I was taken out by someone who pushed up the inside and wasn't able to complete the turn without drifting to the outside where I was, even though I gave him lots of room way on the outside the bend, and it wrecked the car so I rage quit :(

I got wiped out on the first corner after qualifying 2nd, ended up bring repaired in the pits for two minutes.

Then qualified 2nd, led the race till like the 2nd to last lap, tried to lap a car and they just got in the way, lost me the race

I had a dude yesterday turn in on me whilst I was alongside him in T5 on lap 1. He ended up spinning out and "wrecking". He them proceeded to the pits, get repaired then lap slowly until I caught up to double lap him. He obviously tried to take me out but misjudged it and ended up messing it up. I ended up with a 1x and he ended up wrecked again. Karma.

Next race he qualified a few in front and this time managed to do very similar but this time at T6 on lap 1 with some other dude. The saying that "you can't win a race on lap 1 but can lose one" couldn't have rung truer.

Picture this: You see two people battling it out for third, one takes the chance and spins the other by clipping his tail, losing a position to me, you see him swearing in your rear view mirror, only to see him on your tail as you passed him as an innocent bystander...

I think he was a bit angry :p

Woohoo I finally had a great race. Of cours the first lap was typically 'Rookie' and three of us piled into T5 and two of us got taken out (orange/black went into the back of blue and blue and I slid off). But I then spent 15 laps battling car 9 and chasing him down took off 1.3 seconds from my best lap time, down to 54.9 seconds. I saved the replay if anyone has got 20 minutes to watch some scrappy but fair and contact-free racing.

Did my first sprint yesterday, really enjoyed it. I was far too cautious expecting strategy to play a far bigger part but everyone just seems to go for it the entire race

Got some good advice from Tony so hopefully the next one will be a lot better

Shocking da yesterday. It seemed like wherever I was I was being torpedoed. Trying to get up to B class or C4.0 so I can do the GT3 races so been starting from the pits. Somehow someone always ends up tagging or straight up assaulting me.
