iRacing

aye I'll share them with you mate, I'll be on most of the night.

I hope we get both versions, but they only said te rwd for now.

I'm looking forward to the MacLaren that should be a good car, it going in a multi class series tho not sure how I feel about that...

I quite enjoy multiclass, as long as I'm in the fastest class :p

Problem with the slower classes is idiots in the faster class expecting you to disappear when they come flying up to lap you, rather than being sensible and reading the road ahead which makes overtaking other classes a non-issue.

Even seeing some of the things other HPD drivers did when I was driving that more was crazy, let alone being in the slower car.

From what I recall the McLaren should be semi-quick at least, kinda Corvette level rather than FordGT, and those seemed much safer from the madness.

The McLaren is a GT3, meaning it will be slower than the C6 and the Ford GT. About 3 seconds roughly slower than the Ford GT round somewhere like Sebring.

I could well be wrong as I generally don't watch that bit of motorsports but isn't it a case of the McLaren being the FIA/Le Mans GT3 Vs the Ford GT being the ALMS GT2, and the end result being the McLaren is a bit quicker?

As said though, probably wrong but a quick search didn't give much more information.

1:56.4xx \o/

Less than a second behind my optimal now, bit of an improvement :p

Also tried Paul's race setup and the balance is really nice, was doing 58.1's which is my best with full fuel and was (trying) to drive nice and sensibly rather than pushing for laptimes so 57's will be easily doable if needed.

nice one josh...

im done with practicing there now, it dose me nut in after a while i might do some high fuel runs later to get into race mode but thats it...

I'm guessing you guys would have seen the RUF announcement. Will be good to see a Porsche in the game but it will be an SR killer!!! Will be interesting if they will fit it in it's own series

Can't believe I just did a complete race simulation in practice, I've not bothered to do that in ages :p

Even more surprised that I got 4 1:56.xxx laps in there as well once the fuel starting running down.

GraveYard, I do agree it's a little bit understeery at the start, although I find I can either use kerbs or 'chucking' it into the corner to neutralise that a bit, but I love how over the run it just stays nicely balanced and driveable, never gets too oversteery even right at the end which was basically beyond race distance :)

If you want a replay of any of those laps btw I saved the whole thing, semi-planning to have a look again at the first few laps to see how much I was having to drive around the understeer.

Doggie2k, yep, was mentioned on the previous page, gonna be a fun car to drive I think, but crazy to race :)

aye we seen it mate, not really a Porsche but a clever way around getting 1 with the ea rights and all...

if im honest im not enjoying the radical round suzuka and i was proper looking forward to it, im sure the racing will be epic but im just not feeling it now. im always abit slow round there tho maybe thats why and its such a long lap it gets frustrating as its so easy to loose time...still loooking forward to racing there as it is always good...could also be this week has been a boiling hot long hard week on site...

yeah ill give that set another blast 2mora josh, my heads not with it today been so hot all day so i cant be bothered, defo understeery at the start, but probably a kinda good thing as you said as you wouldnt want it too oversteery towards the end of the race with old hot tyres...

Just started out on this, it's a really good sim but boy do i suck at the moment, keep dissapearing off the track, do managed to get the odd semi clean lap in which is good.

Been prattling around in the mx-5 so far, gonna have a go at some other cars as well this evening.

Stick with it, I've been racing the MX5 for the past couple of months and it's only in the last couple of weeks or so that I've started to feel like I'm in control (a bit! :))

I would stick with the MX5 for the time being - the other cars handle very differently. To start with, try and work on your consistency. Don't go for outright speed and give yourself a virtual slap on the wrist each time you find yourself speeding up to try and go as fast as possible round the next bend.

Instead, aim to try and complete 10 straight laps without falling off, no matter how fast/slow they are. Work on hitting the same lines and braking points for all the laps. Once you've got the knack of this consistency, then you start pushing those braking points back and fine tuning your lines for faster times.

:)

As said, sticking with the MX5 is best, and just consistent laps is a great place to start, I really should remind myself of that before starting a Suzuka week :p

Just had a great race with GraveYard though, I was ahead on the grid for a lap and a bit iirc, then went wide at the degners, almost kept it on track but had to go off at degner 2 and then let the whole field past :(

I then managed to work my way up through the field, up to GraveYard which was good fun, I think that's the first time we properly raced isn't it? Anyway eventually got a run up to 130R, had no idea whether I'd make the corner on the inside but he backed off so I went for it (I think if you'd kept your foot in it you possibly would've kept the place around the outside as I slowed 'too much' to make 130R), anyway I was past and had slightly better pace so after many laps caught up with 3rd, almost got past on the penultimate lap, awesome run out of the last corner but ran wide again and only just managed not to lose it.

Still, overly eventful but a nice 4th place to start the week off :)

aye that was a good race and a great start to the racing.

aye after your off i was maintaining the gap for a few laps but then i got slightly caught up in 2nd and 3rd's tangle at the chicane so you were right on my rear, then i ran wide round spoon and i knew you would get the run on me and i didnt want to ruin our races so i backed off but you would have passed me anyway, plus i knew you were faster.

however the set as we have talked about is defo understeery, you can drive it better than me, you were sooo much faster than me in T1, i had no faith in the set in some corners and i was running wide all over the shop...

i still need to be more consistent.

i enjoyed that race and im happy with 5th...

Just did the 10:30 race, 'meh' is about the best description :p

Not that busy, and no silly quick people (although 3 iirc had 56 Q laps so shouldn't have been too shabby).

Anyway, good start, quickly into 3rd and hussling 2nd place but he was lagging really badly so I was wary of making a move until it was absolutely clear that he should 'see' me coming. Got a run out of the hairpin and way before spoon I moved to the inside and was clearly alongside when he just turned right into me. No idea what he saw with his lag but meh.

Ultimately wasn't too bad though, he was more badly damaged than me, I was able to continue but with a very oversteery car for the rest of the race and even only got a 1x due to the lag. Luckily I was able to then build up (doing 58.9's on the ragged edge) a ~20s gap which came down towards the end where the car just kept getting more oversteery, you might've liked it GraveYard :p

But it was enough to come 2nd, 128 points, usual good things etc, just a shame as I think I had the pace to at least push the eventual winner if not get the win for myself.
