iRacing

I love my bikes had a new Suzuki gs1000 when i was 19 back in 78 and had a quick blast on a gsxr1000 the other week.

Might give the Radical another try this week i like Oulton track but only have a Suzuka setup which im guessing should be ok ? will do for a try anyway but was way off the pace there to times of other drivers i know im as quick as so i guess i suk in the Radical lol.

Hope to see you guys on track through the week. You guys make me feel old i have 2 daughters your age lol.

lol I'm also 27 but 28 in may...

that was gunna be my next question, are the tracks true to life but you just answered it...

the aliens were running 17 wing aswell well the 1s I spoke to were, I had the 1 lap pace but seemed to lack confidence when it came to racing I was slightly off the pace, I dunno what it was tbh think it was the set a it understeered i lacked the confidence to push it hard all the time...

oulton is gunna be interesting u reckon the aliens will be well into the 19's, so if I get into the 20's that will do me...

I'm defo loosing time in T1 and I think the hair pin...

you have to be so careful on the power on the exit of the last turn...

Really should get out and try a thousand at some time, closest I've come is the Triumph Speed Triple which doesn't really count with 'only' 138bhp :p

Got a Street Triple R road bike, that's plenty most of the time :)

The Suzuka race set was driveable around there, but an oulton specific setup is probably a good 0.5-1s quicker. I'm sure they'll be a few in the session tonight (and on the forums before the weekend). It takes a bit of getting used to.

Heh, when in May? I'm 28 on the 9th May ¬_¬

Simon Hulbert was saying how he raced with the 17 but that it was probably the wrong choice for the race, right for Q.

I did think a bit more about the setup a couple of times, I did find I was using quite harsh steering inputs and dabbing the brakes to get weight transfer to get it to turn, to the point where when I did that right the understeer wasn't really noticeable, it was only when driving smoothly/normally that it was really bad.

T1 I didn't really get hooked up, at the hairpin you can carry loads of speed because of the ridiculous camber, I like it as at the exit the rear steps out nice and predictably for some lovely powersliding \o/

The last turn is tricky, even going smoothly on the power it's stepping out so I give up and just aim for a 'nice' slide rather than aiming to avoid sliding entirely...

Just ran a few laps in the Radical and its a struggle to get any pace in this car for me for some reason.

Jumped in the HPD after and felt right at home in that and on the pace with that so no idea why i suk in the Radical lol.

may the 4th mine is josh.

yeah T1 i need to get right and im sure ive got more speed in the hairpin to get...

john stick at it mate does take a little while to master but once you do theres no other car like it on iracing...

check your emails josh...

That's a really nice set Steve, got down to a 20.692 by the time I left, I tried a few things with the rear to make it a bit more predictable but not sure it made any real difference, I think it's something that I'll just have to drive around...

apparently its the track mate, well going off what simon said and what he posted on the forum.

theres loads of grip but when i looses traction it just goes with no way to get it back, sound like what we talked about?

ive tried a few things with no success, im gunna do what you did and fill her right up and do a race run to see how it goes...

Yeah, I saw that so I guess it's just one of those things.

I did feel that increasing both bump and rebound at the back by 1 click was possibly slightly better, but it could also just be me getting more used to it, really hard to judge, that's why I don't go making setups :p

Be interesting to see how you find it with full tanks, I tried it with 5 gallons and it felt fine tbh (couple of clicks down on psi was the only change), so I can imagine it being fine for a race set :)

yeah I've tried adjusting them aswell mate and other stuff, but seems to effect the balance for me.

that is a wierd thing on oulton tho it happens random and on different corners.

yeah bring the pressures down a couple clicks when running race fuel the ride heights should be fine...

I'm still learning all this set up stuff and it does your head in at times but it's rewarding when it works, but again I'll use somebody else's if it's better than mine...

i changed the set you shared abit, think i put in some -2 on the rear toe (stabilzes the car for me :D), and went full caster and 2 clicks lower camber, which is cos i lock the tyres under braking a lot :/

at the hairpin i found taking a late apex and exiting low seemed a lot more stable.

i started 8th and finished 3rd. didnt pass anyone, they all crashed/quit :O. ran 23-4 for most of the race and was about 1 sec off the good guys. im amazed i didnt wreck for 20odd mins in the race :o
spun a bunch in 15mins of qualy but never hit anything :O

Congrats, I can see the attrition being fairly high in the races, at least earlier in the week.

Bit surprised David didn't manage to beat my practice time, usually he's a good bit ahead of me, also seems Simon was talking about high 19's so I don't appear to be off the pace I 'should' be at \o/

pingu what times were you posting with that adjusted set?

if your locking the fronts try adjusting the brake bais, it set to how I like it...

josh I think David was building his set as I was with him in a practice server before the school and he never spoke but I looked at the results after and he did a 20.5, think that the aliens will be High 19s...

Yeah, I expect him to be quicker than me, just that I'm glad the he/the aliens didn't turn up and start putting in 18's or something silly :p

If the aliens are mid-high 19's and I can do a 20.6 I'm happy with that :)

yeah mate that's a strong lap, I'm lapping in the low 21's and can't seem to get lower ATM, but I was over driving and getting annoyed with myself last night.David is a very fast driver tho, but strange of him not to talk think he might of been struggling abit with his set, he likes his sets stiff well the ones I've tried have been and that doent work roun oulton for me...

I really need to work on my race pace tho as that's hurting me in some races...

Does seem too bumpy for a stiff setup, several area's where that's just going to lose you speed.

It definitely hurt you at Suzuka, not really thought about it elsewhere but raw pace wise we're pretty much the same, yet I seem to have an edge in race trim, which is a good thing in my book :p

yeah ive normally got the 1 lap speed but struggle in race some times.

id say your faster than me, you normally have a couple of 10ths on me...

think its all seat time TBH, just need to build more confidence...

Helmet ready, race suit ironed, boots polished, patiently waiting for the iracing site to come back online so I can hopefully gain a bit of SR today.

Gravey this is all your fault :(
