iRacing

Nah, I'm a software engineer, basically for a 'consultancy' firm, most of the time that means working at the main office but every so often for one reason or another the customer wants us on their site, things like limited hardware availability of even silly strict nda's.

This one was supposed to be a max of 3 days a week but they want all 5. I did chat to my boss though and he doesn't care what I do, and ultimately the cost to them is roughly the same when you work it out.

nice job mate wish I could do something like that, bet you think im a right donut..lol...

i dont have to be clever to work on building sites thank god...

this frex shift+ is absolutely amazing, every body who sim races should have one...

heh, no, I didn't exactly make it clear :p

Never gonna use anything other than paddles tbh, it may not be accurate all the time but I tried both H shifter and sequential with my G25 and both detract from my concentration, and I clearly need all the help I can get in that area :p

You done any Oulton practice yet? just did a couple of laps with the suzuka race set, definitely gonna need a new setup, did a 1:22.1, take out fuel and you've got a low 21, at a guess I think it's gonna be low 20's/high 19's for our pace so some work to do.

Knickerbrook is odd without the chicanes, never really got a good run through there. Track seems a fair bit bumpier than Suzuka so hopefully the setup can help with that.

I just did a few laps with the Suzuka quali set 22.6 was me best, but I don't know the racing line properly yet or the gear for corners and I'm getting used to the frex shifter...

I've defo got loads of room for improvement, but the little running I did I loved, the radical just suits this track, think ill start with my brands set and mod it for this track...

yeah I understand what your saying about it distracts you from what's going on as that was the case when I tried it on my DFGT, but this is something else mate such a positive feel, I did a couple of laps at Suzuka and after a few it's like second nature just feels natural.

I feel even more like im driving a real car now soo epic...

For what it's worth the gearing I use is:
Old Hall - 3rd
Cascades -3rd
Island Bend - 5th
Shell Oils - 2nd
Knickerbrook (but this is a guess) - 3rd, think it might be 4th though
Druids - 3rd
Lodge - 2nd

ah cheers mate I'll give them a blast.

I'm gunna miss the school server tomorrow aswell need I take my missis to get a tattoo, might be able to get back for the back end of it...

Got this the other day, and borrowed a steering wheel, nearly at pre 1 min times on limerock with the mx5, having fun but its a nightmare racing online, im so careful yet SR is sometimes ruined by others, im going to try and grind and then get some other cars/tracks any tips?

yeah stay out of the way mate start from the pits if you have to, and do time trails just to get out of rookie racing..

josh, oulton is just epic, made a set but still working on it.

21.3 is my pb so far with a opt or 20.7, really enjoying it so far...

the pace is defo in the low 20s...

Dang. I'm at 22.7 at the moment and that was about the only lap out of 4 I managed to not crash :p I need a lot more practice!

I'm still loosing time in a couple turns, I'm finding my feet with the racing line now...

what's your in game name mate mine is S Peace add me...

Yeah will do. So it's your set I've nicked from the forums them eh :p I'm using your brands hatch one with a medium gear set at the moment. It's miles better then what I was trying yesterday. I think I know where I'm losing the time. It's hard to get on the power early out of some of the corners without losing the rear.

My in game name is Shane Patman.

cool yeah i started to make this set for oulton from my brands set its much more stable at the rear, you still have to ease on the power out the last turn...

glad we got another ocuk'er racing the radical...

Just moved to short term rental flat with no phone line which means no Internet :( I'm already missing Iracing and it's only been 2 days. Don't know how I'm going to survive till September when I move back to Oz. My only fix is reading about your radical stories ha!

Good to hear the set/line is coming along GraveYard, how are you taking (and what gear) knickerbrook btw, think I've got a good chunk of time if I can get that right...

Also, if you're not gonna make the school tonight could I be cheeky and ask for the wip setup (email in trust etc) :p

what turn us knickerbrook again mate? is that the 1 at the end of the long straight, if so im taking it in 4th early turn in let it wash wide on exit, I gained half a sec doing that...

yeah mate no bother your one I my chief testers, I happy enough with it as it stands now, I still think it needs a couple tweaks to get a tad more speed. but you may not like it like my Suzuka set but I wasn't too keen on that either and I couldn't be bothered to mess with it after we got Paul's set...

Thank that's the one, out of the hairpin you've got the long straight where you skip the 2 chicanes, that's the one corner that's 'new' to me. Raced the radical using the second chicane so you enter knickerbrook in 2nd and it's trivial, and skippy using both chicanes, never done it without that last chicane.

I was slowing right down to 3rd, in the few laps I did I couldn't get a nice turn in point sorted which I think was my main problem, as I inevitably missed the apex by a country mile :p

Looking forward to getting some proper practice in tonight, as you say it's a great circuit to drive (on a side note I race motorbikes in real life and this is my second favourite circuit of the ones I've done so far, only Cadwell beats it and that's not really suitable for cars :))

awesome mate, bet you have a great sense of the racing line on a bike, is the racing line different on bikes to cars?

how old are you if you don't mind me asking?

yeah I'll be on tonight but need to go out at 6.30 and I'll be back later on so I'll be practicing, think my realistic aim is the mid 20's...

It's different in places, although part of that is that I race a 400cc bike so it's fairly 'slow' in the grand scheme of things, so corner speed rather than cutting the corner to sit the bike up and get the power on. Can't really think of anywhere at Oulton where it's significantly different.

It was very surreal though when they released it (and Brands), just by how accurate it is, not just the track but all the trees/barriers/'stuff' :)

I'm 27.

I'd like to be a bit closer to the aliens than at Suzuka, although it seemed that difference was less pronounced on race pace, but we'll see.

lol I'm also 27 but 28 in may...

that was gunna be my next question, are the tracks true to life but you just answered it...

the aliens were running 17 wing aswell well the 1s I spoke to were, I had the 1 lap pace but seemed to lack confidence when it came to racing I was slightly off the pace, I dunno what it was tbh think it was the set a it understeered i lacked the confidence to push it hard all the time...

oulton is gunna be interesting I reckon the aliens will be well into the 19's, so if I get into the 20's that will do me...

I'm defo loosing time in T1 and I think the hair pin...

you have to be so careful on the power on the exit of the last turn...
