Radical tbh, you know it makes sense, way better than the Star Mazda :p (maybe slightly biased as I could never get on with the SM)

On the Radical note, just did a couple of Q runs, first time did a 57.251, second time a 57.234 on the first lap. Was up in the first 3 sectors of the next run but went too wide on the sweeping right after the hairpin, such a simple corner but I was trying to get the front tyres to not scrub at all to gain that fraction, and they didn't scrub, until they hit the wall :p

Still, full fuel does make a fair bit of difference, I can see the 56's now, 56.2 optimal iirc

I agree, also recently joined after being hesitant and I love this sim. I see you said you go wiped out and had to retire. Remember in Rookie races you get a free repair. It is worthwhile continuing with a race even if you are behind, as you are hurting your irating and SR by not running for as long as you can. When you pit for the free repair just remember to switch off the tyre change and fuel fill up by unticking the boxes when pressing F4 and F5 - took me a while to figure out why I never get a free repair!
 
well just did 10 practice laps in the radical at suzuka, i didnt even get in the 57s but my opt dropped to a 56 flat???

must have been 1 good sector time right???
 
Hmmmmm..... FOUR HOURS later, I'm still playing with graphics drivers and settings, trying to get rid of horrible flickering artefacts all over the place. Getting a bit fed up - one of iRacing's draws for me before was how little faffing I had to do.

Anyone here had similar flickering graphics issues?
 
What graphics card are you using? On the forum there are 2 threads, 1 for nvidia and 1 for ati on the best settings to use. I run an ati card and have everything on the highest setting in game and the aa/af off. I then force the aa and af on through the ati ccc. Seems to work and look good for me :)
 
On my mothers day trip home I stumbled upon a crappy old wheel I used to use (kinda looks like a Fish Price toy), but it always did the trick so I thought I would bring it back. Resubbed last night, thinking about running in the SM or Radical. Looks like most of you are driving the Radical? Be nice to see some clockers on the track - Stephen Lyon.

Edit: Is it also correct that you don't need to own all cars in multiclass racing any more?

aye come race the radical mate me and skill race it and andy said he will next season, plus there's a good group of british peeps that race it with a great community...

It's correct for the official series, not for hosted I believe...

And definitely the Radical, such a fun car to drive, most of the time :)
 
If we can arrange a get to gether some time ill host a Radical practice for OCUK guys.

Ive not driven it before so would need someone to share a set.

Have all tracks so can host anywhere you guys like.
 
Is this bad boy even worth considering w/o a steering wheel? Not sure I want to invest in a wheel as they are a pretty penny

I could use an xbox pad though..
 
I keep umming and ahhing over trying this. I just bought myself a Fanatec GT3RS wheel and CSR Elite pedal set, and I'd like to try it out with something a bit more realistic than Test Drive Unlimited 2 and the DiRT series, but it's so much money for the tracks and cars... :(

If I were to go for this, could someone suggest a fun car to get me started? I may also have to try Laguna Seca, even if you don't get it as standard :D

Indeed I did fella. I've tried 3 different driver versions now, and have been turning individual graphics settings of and on for hours trying to isolate what causes the problem. At one point, it seemed using absolute minimum settings cured the problem, but the flickering reappeared even with EVERYTHING turned off/low.

I'm wondering whether it might be my PSU overloading, or even my GFX card biting the dust. I would hope not as it's only just 3 months old and hasn't been overclocked at all.

Laguna Seca is among the free tracks, and as a Rookie you'd start with the Mazda MX-5 which isn't too bad, and again it's free like all 'Rookie' content.

Of course, by 'free', it's more 'included in basic subscription'...

Note that the overall idea of the game is to progress in licence level, so you start at Rookie which means driving either the MX-5 or Legends Oval car, then by driving safely you go up levels through D, C, B and A class, and then if you're good enough Pro and World Championship levels. Each level gives a new set of series available on both road and oval, with generally quicker cars each level (eg the Williams F1 car is A-Class, the Skip Barber is D-Class)

The most popular affordable ones is the Logitech Driving Force GT (DFGT), think they go for around £70-80 and are a good wheel, downsides being poor paddles and pedals.

Next step up is the Logitech G2x series, more like £160+ depending on sales etc, overall wheel isn't significantly better than the DFGT but the paddles are nicer and the pedals are a lot better. I've used a G25 heavily for the past ~3.5 years and it's still going strong.

Then you've got the Fanatec wheels for the £2-300 range, and then the Frex/ECCI wheels for £1000+, but guessing that won't interest you much :)
 
timbob, that's crazy flickering :p I've had the problem ages ago with the trees and some objects flickering but that just seems to be random 'shadows' appearing :s

Tried different drivers, assuming you've tried all the different setup options it might be worth doing that (if you're on ATi I'm currently on 11.12 iirc with no problems)

EDIT: And then I actually read the post, d'oh, what drivers did you try? not that I'm thinking it will help...

Have you posted that vid in the hardware bit off iracing forums? maybe someone else has had it...
