iRacing

Race fuel is just how much fuel you carry which effects the weight of the car and how fast you can go :-)

No point in running with a full tank for a 10 lap race.

First, i want to say sorry to barmy for not replying in my sale thread, been busy and forgot i had it up and didnt get a email saying there was a reply, but finances have picked up (dark time with 2 people dieing) so im back to iracing thankfully.

Now with all the talk of the RUF's i bought them last night, with today being my first test - wow they are a handful, i can only race in the RUF cup unless i buy tracks, so its Silverstone my least favourite track, never get round it properly at all, not to mention im used to H-Shift cars MX5 and the Lotus 79, seq is odd feeling and downshifting i keep either doing too early and locking the rear, or too late and causing an unbalance - Wonder if should stick auto cluth/blip on, any other tips from RUF drivers?

My C class rating is 2.42 so im very cautious of entering an offical quali or race yet as im close to losing it. Again sorry to barmy.

ahhh i get ya nuts. :D

I'm dreading when I eventually get a better wheel and have to use a H shifter and clutch... I mean... I can drive so I can do it fine.... but so used to in simulation driving using flappy paddles and no clutch so I'm also left foot braking :p

Ruf is a sequential gear box so need for clutch. There's is a slight issue with the Ruf and the MP4 that you can't shift down too early without it going into neutral or just not shifting down. I believe this is deliberate with the MP4 to stop you blowing the engine. The Ruf didn't have it to start with but now it does. Again I'm not sure if this is deliberate and realistic or just to make both cars similar.

I'd also say that the Ruf Track (the middle spec, used in GT3) is the easiest of the three specs to drive. You have to be a lot smoother with the other two otherwise they swap ends quite easily.

No worries about the not replying in your sale thread.

Sasso, you can use sequential shift for all cars if you want, i prefer H-block shifting with clutch so I have always used this since day one.

I get annoyed when I'm in cars that only support sequential shift.

but dammit if I'm gunna fork out for this kit I don't want to leave a peddle and the shifter completely unsued xD I WILL USE THEM....maybe....

Thanks Barmy, just did a practice in that Track spec ruf and its miles easier to drive than the C, its just a little tail happy, but might settle down with a setup or something - as for the Seq shifting, never really done it before, but with many of the road cars using it im gonna have to learn the downshift behaviour, or just dabbing the clutch on the downshift seems to force it.
Road america is a ton better than Silverstone - im down to 1.56's at silverstone with an optimal for 1.55.xx, some quali results are up and at 1.53's im not as far off the pace as i thought.

And as for the email notifications, they were on but never came through :(

Edit - scrap the times, been in a practice session with 1 guy doing 1.51's eeeeeeekkk.

Edit - down to 1.54.xx now at silverstone, improving a little bit.

I was too late back from the gym to race so I did a qualifying session instead.

Best lap in Ruf Track at Road America was 2:07.4 with an optimal of 2:06.6 so at least my low fuel time is a bit closer to Spils' time than before.

Barmy, did thrustmaster drop the load cell they were supposed to be making, i would have thought it would be released by now, leo bodnar is quite expensive and out of stock for ages now.

There was rumour around this time last year and I know one website had it available on their store to pre order for around £90 and it included a photo. I haven't seen anything much since then and certainly nothing official from Thrustmaster.

I'm more likely to get the Fanatec CS V2 pedals than the brake mod now anyway.

Found this

Yup those are the only links ive found, oh well im happy with them as they are for now - out of interest if you can remember what do you have the brake force set to in iRacing, ive found i prefer it a lot lower than the settings it tells you 1.6 to 1.8 i think, got it set to 0.80 at the moment.

Enjoying the RUF's quite a lot, makes a change from the usual mx5 stuff, managed to talk to one of the guys doing 1.51's around silverstone and he sent me the setup, so hopefully with practice ill take the 1.54 down to 53/52.

Also side note to the above, do your t500 pedals rattle when you let go of the pedal, almost like vibrations and do you find some slack in the pivot/axle?

oh lol great start to the charlotte road course for the mazda.... did the test... driving round fine... getting used to it, go into an empty practice to actually get some times....

YOU'RE GOING THE WRONG WAY! YOU'VE BEEN DISQUALIFIED FOR RECKLESS DRIVING!

so spent 20 mins on the test track going the wrong way... hahah xD let's try this again...

Qualified 4th for the 8:00 GT3 race.

Held my position from the start and probably could've taken third, but 70 minutes is a long time so I reigned in the aggression. Unlike all the drivers around me, lunging from miles back trying to make reckless overtakes. Running wide, kicking up dirt and generally driving like idiots. It all culminated in some **** spinning in front of me and I just couldn't avoid contact and I ended up in the pits for ten minutes.

After leaving the pits my car would pull to the right under braking but was reasonably drivable so I drove to the end and finished 15th. Other than the 4 inc for the contact I only picked up one more inc from 28 laps.

SR gain but IR loss again.

See thats what scares me to race in the higher classes, its bad enough with the mx5 at times, but i do like bigger faster cars, suits me more if that makes sense - still no where near ready to take any of the rufs into a race yet.

As for the pedals, it looks like my pivot axles for the pedals are loose/sloppy, naff all i can do with it, so contacted thrustmaster again for the 5th time since owning the t500 and th8.

I still maintain that iRacing is the cleanest racing online outside of a private league.

I try my very best to avoid accidents and probably give up a lot of places to avoid contact. The advantage is that for the most part you stay out of trouble and finish races, usually in front of the idiot you let by ten laps earlier. Because inevitably they end up in the barriers or crashing into someone else.

But it has the down side that you aren't always racing hard, which is where a lot of the fun is. I'm sure that in the higher splits it might be a bit better, but you're always going to get drivers that think they're Nigel Mansell when in really they're about as good as Nigel Havers.

As for my Thrustmaster kit, I haven't had any problems with mine. Other than the cooling fan is loud and the desk clamp is rubbish I can't complain.

Oh i agree with that, just with the bigger cars im either more likely to hit someone or someone to hit me, and with my SR pretty low now 2.37 i risk losing access to the C class - so id like to get better and more consitant before racing offically in the car.

Edit - i know OT a bit, but relevent for T500 owners, i contacted playseatstore to see about the load cell and heres the reply, so maybe sometime this year.
I’ve been informing at Thrustmaster and they gave me this information;

The TRS Official Load Cell Brake Mod is still waiting for its release date.

This release date is still unknown, so we have to keep you waiting.

This means this product is expected. We keep you informed by our newsletter.
Kind Regards,

so after navigating charlotte road course the correct way round I turned in a time of 1.28.xxx .7 something I think, pretty pants probably as I was going so slow round some corners. that road section in the middle is just so easy to spin on :\ cambers going every which way :p wide though.... might try a race by the weekend :D

Yeah man I found the same problem, I have only done a few test laps but them cambers are a real pain. More practice is needed before I even think about racing this one!
