Is it ok to be proud to be white?

The west seems to really bought into the identity politics of the far left, where the white male sits atop of their oppression pyramid.

People think euros have had it easier than the other races but nothing could be further from the truth.
You know is there is a pyramid on top of that for how white your white male is. Anglo Saxon white males are the very very top of that with Latin white, such as Argentinians, being at the bottom.

Not in 2018. If your white you are required to be ashamed of yourself.

Didn't you know? It's all our fault that rich white guys had slaves 185+ years ago!

Well if current thinking around allowing transgender men to basically call themselves "women" then why not ;)

It does become a bit tiresome doesn't it? This constant need by some/many to be identified as something you obviously are through no control of your own or quite obviously aren't but feel, because you decide you are, then we all should support you in that. I have zero time for people who get offended because I don't support their protestations because they think that somehow impedes them or impacts their personal choices in life. It doesn't because you are irrelevant to me usually and you now what, I should be irrelevant to you too.

Am I proud to be white? Nope but I am also not in the slightest guilty of feel any responsibility for the nasty things some white people may have done to some 'off white' people over the years. I don't have that guilt, I don't feel I should apologise for it because it wasn't me who did it and I don't feel I owe anyone anything for it other than how I act and to acknowledge it happened and was wrong, but move on please because constant seeking of acknowledgement is pointless when acknowledged. Treat everyone the same until they give me reason not to, which is often predicated on anger when I don't support their preposterous proclamations they are for example, a martian lesbian from a star trek film because that is what they identify as. Oh right, good for you but please, really.

Live and let live but don't ask me to buy into your delusions and don't seek to impose it on me but feel free to live the life you wish. What I think or the language I use or how I discuss it with my friends should not matter to you at all, it should be irrelevant. Same as when an angry person with pink hair tells me I am 'the problem' being a white man. They are irrelevant to me, I just smile and eat some more pie.....pussy pie. :D

By the same token people are free to say they don't accept being called a queer, ******, **** or whatever. Suddenly it seems that viewpoint means you're a leftie flake.

I don't think anyone has the right to be abusive to other people or use terms we all know offend towards people with the sole intention of causing offence. They can vigorously disagree and they can have a heated debate, but when it comes to calling people names the debate is over, the person using the names has lost and it's time to move on/away from the debate. I do it here when it is obvious a poster NEEDS to be heard/right and they have lost rationale thought. I leave the thread and move on as it is unimportant they hear me, agree with me or acknowledge they are being silly because it has moved past that and so have I. Life is far too short to spend time with angry people who don't matter.

I have no time for bigots or abusive people and I don't feel the need to tell anyone how to live their lives but in the same way I have no time for those people who feel it's a must I support their personal choices or personal perceptions. I won't spend my time telling them what they should do, it's up to them, but I have little time for them telling me why I am wrong on long held views. I have no issue with black, white, red, yellow, green, thin, fat, old, young people, gay, straight, bi. Be what you are be what makes you happy.

I watch the movie for entertainment, i think you missed the point..

If england win the world cup i won’t feel like going crazy over it like many others would for example..
Sport is different though as the outcome is not assured. That's why it can be more fun supporting a smaller team as the satisfaction of them beating a bigger team is more pronounced. It's classic David and Goliath.

If England were to defeat Germany or Brazil, teams with tremendous pedigree, in the World Cup Final then it would be of massive significance.

Coincidentally, 6 of the starting 11 England players on Friday were black or mixed race. Skin colour is not a barrier to entry in this country anymore.

Funnily enough the biggest bigots are generally the ones calling for some sort of full on tyranny of the mind and language, if you ever get a chance to hang out with these wierdos that say they're fighting for social justice, just wait a while.

They all attack each other more than they supposedly want to attack the "fasch", Lesbians hate gay men, gay men hate eachother, "bi" folk can be hit or miss, Trans folk just want to be left alone, they all hate Drag for portraying trans in a sordid light (even though it's been just about the only place it could survive in history).

Of course it's a generalisation, but for 3-5% of the population a lot of them are excruciatingly loud about being all-inclusive, yet ******* hate eachother when the world doesn't look.

Same goes for Black (or more accurately African-Americans) people, they murder themselves in spades, but the biggest issue is apparently not that...

There’s a name for this behaviour, but it escapes me for the moment.

The black on black killing is considered an internal problem. The cop on black killing, whether lawful or not, is considered an attack on the group from “the other”. So despite the cop on black killing being a drop in the ocean compared to the black on black killing, it is treated as more significant.

Woooooaah. Hold it right there cowboy. Next you'll be suggesting that all of the biggest banks, corporations and media companies are disproportionately owned and run by members of a certain Abrahamic belief system.

I was going to just answer yes to the question. But then I was reading the thread and seen its gone down all kinds of routes.

The problem I have with the question is that its not really about skin colour. It's what it represents i.e. history, culture etc.

I don't particularly support the idea of a collective demographic as it ends up having to defend bad people just because they are part of that demographic, and sadly many people DO make excuses.

I'm a disabled guy and I've had more problems from white people than any other ethnic group. But I am white too and these are people that I have come from.

One thing that annoys me in recent years is the war on reality. It seems most people can't accept who they are and build from that. Instead of building a life in this world people seem to want more and more escapism. This can come in many forms and in itself a little escapism is good to take a break. Pre-2000 people recognised it was escapism. Post-2000 they think the fantasy is real and if you don't play along then you should be prosecuted etc. I'll make this point extra clear. It's not the form of escapism I'm complaining about. It's that a sense of reality as gone and escapism is taking over peoples lives. Interestingly, this seems to effect white people more than anyone else.

I completely agree with this viewpoint.

In respect of being 'proud'? to be white? I don't perceive my skin colour to be relevant to any discussion on whether I do or should feel proud etc. I don't feel any form of attachment to it, because its not unique, its not a deciding factor on who I am.

Pride isnt always about personal achievement. When my son performs well at school, or my daughter wins an award at her ballet class I feel a sense of pride despite the achievement being squarely theirs without my contribution.

I am proud of my British heritage, I am proud of what our little country did and has achieved in its time, again without any personal contribution by me. My pride is a sense of attachment and belonging to something that is bigger than me. I maybe an insignificant cog in the process, but I do feel a part of it. I don't 'feel' a part of being white....if there is such a thing.

seems strange...what does being white actually do to make you proud

I am proud of who I am , of how I interact with people and what I have done

being white or black would have made no difference to any of these

and on the flipside..I am not ashamed who I am..if people cant see past a colour to an individual, then that's their problem not mine

Proud to be British, of our heritage and hard fought democracy which has given the freedom for so many fantastic minds to flourish.

But skin colour means absolutely nothing, it's purely a geographical marker. The values people carry in their heart is what matters, I think Britain has a history of success in this area.

I do worry about our culture being eroded because it is seen to be "too white". In the race to be more "diverse" I hope our principles still remain front and centre.
