He's only got a year left on his current deal, I think they should just see what he comes up with next season and then don't renew his contract if he hasn't delivered. If you look at the main two trophies this season, he got knocked out of CL by the reigning champions (no shame in that) and currently the only sides ahead of him in the league are Chelsea and MU (again, pretty much par for the course). Given the injuries he's had to suffer I'd say he's pretty much done what was required, assuming there isn't a disaster on the final day he should finish above Man City, Spurs, Liverpool, Villa and Everton who are his main rivals for CL football.
The one single advantage there might be from sacking him this summer is that with it being World Cup year there's more chance of good managers being available once it's over compared to 2011. But then you'd be in a situation where the new guy comes in late and doesn't have much of an opportunity to stamp his mark on the squad before the new season kicks off in any case.
If you listen to Arsenal fans there is quite a wide spectrum of opinion on different players that Wenger has tried, which indicates that things maybe aren't quite as clearcut as it would first appear in terms of what errors he has made. A lot of people seem to rave about Vela but for me he just doesn't have the presence in games, he's one of the most anonymous forwards I've seen at Arsenal in years. Games just pass him by and in my opinion this idea that you need to continually grant underperforming players a huge run of games in the side simply doesn't cut it. Arsenal don't have the luxury of being able to carry passengers for 3, 4, 5 games while they are trying to get to grips with the EPL. The best players, the real geniuses, come in and grab any opportunities they are given with both hands and get themselves noticed. Eduardo, looked the business before his injury - but crucially, he wasn't starting every week then either. Before, he was a bit-part player who looked good in front of goal. Now, he is a bit-part player he is offering very little to the team.
Then the likes of Walcott, you have to say maybe there is some stubborness about Wenger's persistence with him. Plenty of fans seem to have #14 on the back but in all honesty you have to question of all the games he's been given, how many times has he delivered genuinely good performances? His crossing is woeful at times, his shots are often scuffed pearollers, he has no composure - basically the only thing you can rely on is his pace.
I think this summer what I'd like to see would be to bring in a decent keeper to replace Flappyhandski, two centrehalves (at least one top notch to partner Vermaelen, ideally Gallas), a defensive midfielder and a striker. For me we don't really have any problems with fullbacks, widemen or creative midfielders (if everyone is fit, which is a big if, as it's gotta be over THREE YEARS(!!!

!!!) now since Wenger has been able field our best XI)
As far as sales go, Fabianski, Denilson and one of the forwards can be shown the door.
