Is it time to sack Wenger?

Remember this season was the one where Arsenal would fall out of the top 4, yet again, after Wenger sold a few players for ridiculous money and brought in unknown replacements. Vermaelen who? He'd never replace Touré - another season qualified for the Champions League with little difficulty, more money, more stability for the club, another set of promising players given more responsibility, an absolutely cashcow stadium built and being paid off ahead of schedule.

They may have made top 4 but it was closer than some people realise. Tottenham could have snatched 3rd and if Man City were that little bit better Arsenal could have missed out.

It isn't Wengers fault Arsenal haven't won anything lately, IMO. I do have reservations on the clubs transfer dealings.

Okay maybe that's not true for all of those players but certainly Sol Campbell, Bartley, Eastmond and Gibbs would have a decent chance of making a Spurs bench. :p
Ahead of who? Spurs bench for the final game of the season was Jermaine Jenas, James Walker, Eidur Gudjohnsen, David Bentley, Roman Pavlyuchenko, Sebastien Bassong and Wilson Palacios.

I would take Jenas and Walker out of there for a start. Eidur Gudjohnsen is washed up, David Bentley is Arsenals left overs and Pavlyuchenko has been a total flop barring a couple of patches of form.

haha :D Arsenal fan in overstating youngsters talents shocker.

*cough* Danny Rose *cough* total fluke goal *cough*

:p

A lucky shot and terrible goalkeeping and suddenly he's the king of the lane...

I would also point out to all that a fully fit Arsenal team bench would be vastly superior to the Spuds...

Campbell - Djourou - Gibbs - Rosicky - Ramsey - Denilson - Diaby - Eboue - Wilshere - Walcott - Eduardo - Vela - Chamakhattack

If that is your bench, who exactly is your first 11? Are you still counting Gallas as your player? ;)

Just take Djourou out of that line up if we regard Gallas as gone and it's still a good bench. :)

With that bench first 11 as it stands at the moment could still be:

Almunia, Sagna, Vermaelen, Djourou, Clichy, Song, Nasri, Fabregas, Arshavin, Bendnter, RVP

Undoubtedly a good bench but by far from what I consider to be vastly superior to Spurs. You're badly lacking at CB and desperately need a new keeper. Time for Wenger to get his cheque book out.

I don't think a single one of those players would make it. I'd take Bassong over Campbell every day and Assou Ekotto (is he Spurs back up left back? or does he start now that Bale has moved forwards?) over Gibbs (has Gibbs even played this season? Not really heard much about him since his mistakes when United beat you last season. As for Bartley (who has made a grand total of 1 appearance for Arsenal according to Wiki) and Eastmond (who has made 7) I doubt either of those would make the bench of the likes of Silvestre are chosen ahead of them at Arsenal. And if you are seriously suggesting you would pick Eastmond over the likes of Palacios...

Yep, agreed that we need a new keeper and a new CB. I'd like to see Djourou play next season alongside Vermaelen, we've got Sol for backup but I think we definitely need another CB, I already mentioned which keepers I'd go for in the summer speculation thread but I'd like to keep Almunia for back up as he isn't a total **** up. I'd like to have Fabianski put back into reserve action as I'm sure in training he's a decent keeper, he just seems to brick it when it comes to match time and I think he's been chucked in at the deep end a bit, just like Mannone was.

Anyyyyyyhowwwww should Wenger be sacked??...no simply put

Trust a Utd fan and few Spuds fans to come in here to take everything off topic:rolleyes::p

Not to mention Gibbs, Campbell, Gavin Hoyte, Bartley and Eastmond. Could say Thomas Cruise who played a game or two earlier in the year as well.
I meant players that could have genuine hopes of starting on a semi-regular basis in a few years time. :p I'd only really pick Gibbs out of those to have a hope, and that's if he massively improves.

Out your first team there'd be none by position who would get into ours. I'd have Gallas/Vermaelen over King/Woodgate any day.

HAHAHAHAHA

I'd have Gallas/Vermaelen over King/Woodgate any day.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAA

I'd have Gallas/Vermaelen

lol at Gallas and Vermaelen. Over the hill defender and average defender equals the club who failed to win the title again.

Seriously though if King/Woodgate were fit all the time they would be the best central defensive partnership in the country and I personally would argue the world.

They are much better than Rio/Terry and if it wasnt for fitness problems King would have long ago ended up at Man Utd or Chelsea (a big club) and Woodgate would be there with him or still at Real, he went there for a reason.

They have both been massively unlucky with injuries and whilst some may choose to debate my preference of them over Rio/Terry comparing to average players like Gallas/Vermaelen to King and Woodgate is insulting.

Woodgate was so good he even made Bramble look competent :p

Similarly if i was any good at football i'd be leading Englands front line at the world cup next month...unfortunately i'm crap so i work in IT :p

They may well be the best defenders the world has ever seen but since neither can play a game without tearing or pulling some body part that's an irrelevant point really ;) it's like saying darren anderton would have been better than pele if he could have kept off the treatment table.

I'd much rather have vermaelen than a crock who can only play one game per week at the very most, what's he going to do when you have PL, FA and CL games coming thick and fast? The best defensive partnerships become that way because of constant playing and familiarity, King and Woodgate will never ever get that far, just as i'll be watching the world cup on tv :o

Also don't forget vermaelen is only 24, 5 years younger than king and woodgate - he has plenty of years to become the best.

Didn't they finish above you, AGAIN? After spending less money, AGAIN?

If Woodgate is so damn good that comparing Gallas and Vermaelen to him is insulting, how come he didn't get picked for the England squad? When the likes of Dawson and Upson did? Is it just that Capello is stupid and can't see how amazing he is? Or is that you are unbelievably, pathetically bias?

Of course they finished above my team, im a Toon fan bud so climb off that high horse for a sec before you hurt yourself

He didnt pick him because he isnt fit, its rather hard to play in the England squad if you are injured.

Poor comparison at best.

Each to there own. Personally I would much rather have King who is absoloute quality, he proves it time and again when he plays. He is a far superior player to Vermaelen.

I wont argue the toss that that you will get more games out of Vermaelen and I am not saying that Vermaelen is not a decent enough player and as you said he may well improve over the next few years but he is not in the same league as King at the moment. The majority would take a fit and in form King over a fit and in form Vermaelen any day.

Haha King and Dawson best in the world :D

I didnt say anything about Dawson but he is a good player. Did not really rate him until the last couple of seasons where he has come on leaps and bounds if he can keep developing at this rate he should be ready for England as Terry and Rio are phased out due to the constant injury/form problems they are currently, and unfortunately, suffering from. Though that is of course dependant on him keep improving. Not at the Rio/Terry standard yet.
