The problem is that people get complacent after long periods of quiet.

"Why are we wasting all these resources on a border that's clearly quiet?" "These damn war mongers in our government just want to increase the military budget to feed the industrial war complex!" "We are just intimidating those poor people."

...And so on.

Israel had the resources, they were caught off guard. A totally different kind of complacency to an underfunded and incapable military.

Damm, I have just seen tunnels full of rockets and certainly in the middle of urban areas
Then saw an attack to a building in the middle of an urban area followed by 3 other explosions with black smoke. What do you think that was? Someone doing a toast?
Some here would suggest that was Israel just "indiscriminately" bombing a residential area.

*pay no attention to the secondary explosions*

Never ending cycle, more aggression just breeds more resistance and hatred, we've seen that countless times in N Ireland vietnam etc

Yes. Somebody has to be big and say we've been attacked but we will not respond offensively, only defensively. You cannot continue the cycle, it has to stop at some point. If you take a step down the path of offensive action, it will only lead to further escalation and more attacks on you. The situation is impossible to solve offensively without very large civilian casualties, so this route is best avoided.

Another straw man. What I and others are referring to is the rhetoric coming out of Israel about turning Gaza into a tent town and leaving no buildings standing.

sadly a peaceful resolution does not look like the way it is going.

Their responsibility is to end Hamas.

Your priorities clearly differ from theirs.

That's still not a carte blanche for turning swathes of civillians to glass. That my be how the US sees things judging from their failed wars in places like Iraq and Afghanistan, but it's not as black and white as that. War still has rules. So unless the IDF are not actually at war and really on a mission of genocide then your statement is a fallacious one

I completely understand the difference. Hence why Israel and their plans to level Gaza are not proportionate. I believe Hamas should be destroyed, I don’t believe all of Gaza needs to be destroyed to achieve that goal.
You gotta forgive him, he is American.....shoot first ask questions later :D

For real though, Israeli government is stuck in difficult situation, it's seems people already feel let down and no matter what they do will it be enough to make up for their failures.

Hopefully saner heads in the IDF and Israeli government prevail and they come up with a sound strategy to destroy Hamas without having level Gaza.

I wonder, what’s the point of people moving to a secure area if these guy might be infiltrated? Almost like everyone moves to the secure area and there is nobody around the remaining grounds. What makes people think that even if there was a secure place that wouldn’t prevent the bad ones infiltrate? This is a difficult one because they hide behind the innocents there, which I want to believe there are.
