My knowledge of middle eastern affairs is practically zero but I always thought that the Palestinians are technically from what is now Jordan. So why can't they have land in Jordan as opposed to just picking somewhere like Jerusalem simply because it's a holy site for them?

Sorry if this offensive but I'd rather be educated than scorned. :p

Israeli's do not want two state.

I suspect at the moment they want one state on one side and zero on the other.

Because of a work of fiction in a book and generations of brainwashing. I’m assuming this lot have mainly read the Old Testament, it’s much more Rambo with some added mass murder and rape thrown in and much less the peaceful charity worker.

No. There is a large Jordanised Palestinian population, but Jordan is not where they came from. The Palestinians are a coalescence of various Arab tribes who historically shared territory with other Arabs in the Middle East, but never possessed a common national identity.

The concept of a unique Palestinian identity was an invention of the 1960s, and Palestinian nationalism can be dated from that era. That's when the Palestinians decided they wanted a country of their own for the first time, and that the land for this country must be taken from Israel.

Because the Jordanians don't want to share their land with the Palestinians. And why is that? Because the last time Jordan shared her land with the Palestinians, the Palestinians tried to overthrow the Jordanian government in a military coup that turned into a civil war.

None of the Arab nations want to share their land with the Palestinians. None of them. They only ever care about using the Palestinians as a stick to beat Israel. Even Iran doesn't want them, and she's not even an Arab state.

Interesting perspective:

"I'm German. Our nation used to be much bigger than it is. Than we started two wars, lost badly and millions of our people were killed or lost their ancestral homes. - and we accepted it and didn't started shooting rockets into Poland on a regular basis.

In my book Gaza was very lucky that it wasn't Dresden-ed a long time ago. But I have the feeling they will run out of luck real quick."

Yeah, it's a book about Middle Eastern history and religion.

But the UN doesn't support Israel's behaviours on the west bank. So that's already a problem.

The UN doesn't need to support Israel's behaviours on the West Bank in order to host a peace discussion. The UN is still a neutral body, and it's a forum that was made for this kind of negotiation.

This is not the same as asking Israel and the Palestinians to thrash out their differences in partisan host nations.

That’s actually a really great take.

Fair point. I just wonder how neutral they'd be.

You're right though. This needs a middle man or something dramatic. The USA needs to stop unilaterally supporting Israel for a start as that again doesn't help but stoke the fire.

Whilst a 2 state solution isn't great and tensions would always exist if it's internationally recognised it can then be enforced.

Sounds like all the reserves are being called up, Israelis are ******, even those exempt are volunteering. It’s going to get very messy. Some have used 9/11 as an analogy, just this time proportionally more people were killed and up close too.

Having worked with some Israelis they'll no doubt be up for it, they had all done military service.

* two state solution
* contiguous territory for both states (this is the tricky part)
* Jerusalem becomes an international city administered by a UN-appointed NGO

Yes that's probably what needs to happen. Hard to get over the line.

However my biased opinion is that Israel also needs to be monitored as much as Palestine. I'm sure they're both get up to as many nefarious activities as each other. However I'd want them monitored equally rather than assuming Israel is always innocent.

Similarly I'd want Hamas and other such like to be clamped down on hard but without unnecessary violence. I don't want Israelis to suffer nor do I want Palestinians to be subjected to unnecessary hatred.
