Israel-Hamas war - Please do not post videos showing attacks/similar

Apparently 400 Israeli people killed, and the IDF are still battling in 8 areas to regain control.

A huge embarrassment for Israel, people on mopeds riding in and stealing tanks, shooting civilians, taking potshots.

What a complete mess

I figured they’d have the border locked down with tanks etc. Iran and the like must be fancying their chances, it makes Israel look very weak.

Patrick Henry was a combatant in a legitimate war of independence. He did not commit any acts of terrorism, and did not belong to a terrorist organisation.
Because the Americans won. As simple as that. Had the British won he'd be another Guy Fawkes.

But you're avoiding the point. People have said throughout history that death would be preferable to a life without freedom. And the Palestinians have no freedom. Neither in Gaza nor in the West Bank.

Hamas are not good guys, no. But even in the areas the Palestinian Authority allegedly administers, Israel is the real power. They impose restrictions and demands and the Palestinians have no choice but to comply. They aren't even free to move from one enclave to another. Many aspects of their lives are governed by Israel. Israel can cut the power, water, etc, etc, at will.

How many examples of Israel's cruelty to Palestinians must be ignored to concluded that Israel are good guys?

I know, the videos of them smashing down a huge fence with a gigantic yellow bulldozer, then hundreds of people rushing through - completely unchallenged, it’s mad.

They’ve really mugged them off on that front, the videos of that bulldozer smashing up an Israeli police station only adds to the embarrassment.

Are you talking about the bulldozer knocking down the wall of a police station in Sderot as that was not Hamas, that was Israeli forces attempting to clear out Hamas forces who were holed up inside the police station.

No. Guy Fawkes tried to commit an act of terrorism against civilians. Patrick Henry never did this.

I'm not missing the point. Their lack of freedom was forced on them by Hamas.

The Palestinian Authority does not administer any area in Gaza, they only control 39% of the West Bank. Palestinians are free to move within Gaza and the West Bank. Israel withdrew from Gaza years ago. Israel does restrict (but not prevent) movement between Gaza and the West Bank, citing security concerns. Recent events suggest those concerns were entirely justified.

Many aspects of their lives are governed by Israel. Israel can cut the power, water, etc, etc, at will.

And by Egypt. But again, this is due to Hamas forcing out Fatah and the PA, who were willing to work with Egypt and Israel. The Palestinians decided they wanted Hamas in control, so now they get the world that Hamas has created for them.

Now Hamas has decided they want a war with Israel, so the Palestinians in Gaza get that too, whether they like it or not.

You will search this forum in vain for any post in which I argue that Israel are the good guys. I have consistently stated that Israel is guilty of state sponsored terrorism, and I have consistently argued for a two state solution in which the Palestinians receive a contiguous territory and Israel gives up exclusive rights to Jerusalem.

What's tragic is I remember as a child playing in Beirut with the local kids. There were Christians, Muslims and even some Jews (although not many as the civil war didn't help, and tensions with Israel had already been brewing) and we all played together. I remember when the Muezzin would sing or the church bells would toll all the kids would disappear to their respective places. Then after lessons would all come back and carry on playing.

Having gone back there as an adult people still talk about things as they were with fondness but none of them see how it can ever be like this again. There has been so much distrust going on and hatred and echo chambers have been created. Rational thought and liberal behaviours are now pretty rare. They feel worn out.

I asked some of my friends whether that's Hamas and Hezbollah's doing. They all take a look around and whisper. Yes. However, they all want to prosper but they just don't trust foreign politics/affairs and they have no trust of Israel not to somehow trick them or basically pretend to agree whilst still plotting against Arab states. The state of fear the Arab nations live in is palpable.

And this drives the problem further. It's easy to convince people to die for a cause when they feel no other options exist.

It's bleak bleak bleak. So many broken people. Broken lives. Broken families.

People have just given up.

The west or the UN or something needs to be an intermediary that has the power to actually influence but clip the wings of both sides and calm them down.

Ignoring the terrorist groups or some of the bully politics of Israel, the majority of people, the silent majority want to go to work, bring up a family and travel and are often forced to follow the bidding of those in power.

You're damned if you do and you're damned if you don't.

I'm so sad another conflict has and is erupting.

Someone said you "reap what you sow", it goes both ways though not just one. My heart goes out to all the victims and their families.

This region has been a powder keg for decades now so it shouldn't come as a surprise for anyone.

The Israelis have been bulldozing Palestinians out their home and stealing their land for a lot of those decades.

Whether people want to hear it or not the Israelis are no saints, they brutally occupied the territories they control

6500 Palestinians have been killed since 2008 and the UN have condemned Israel more times than every other country combined.

There has to be perspective here as to why this happened, its pretty much war that has never been resolved.

What happens next will be much more brutal than what has just happened and that in itself was a war crime, but then again neither Hamas or the Israelis car about that sort of thing.

The Israelis will now go on a bombing campaign that will rival what the Russians did to Ukraine, men women and children will be obliterated in their homes

When the area is levelled the army will go in and finish them off, I pray I'm wrong but I really think another genocide is about to begin.

On the plus side if you support Ukraine then there is some good news, Hamas are not the only targets of Israeli rage, Iran will be firmly in their cross hairs.

The intelligence experts are saying this could not have happened without the support of Iran, they must have supplied and planned the whole thing and got the go ahead from them.

It benefits the Ukrainians for obvious reasons, they will now be on the defensive it will be very difficult for them to now supply Russia with missiles and drones if they are under attack

So with any luck they will lose Iran as a supplier.

The conflict was already there.

There are neo-nazis / far right people on the same side as communist / far left activists attacking Israel and being dismissive of Jewish dead bodies of innocent people.

What a bizarre situation.

Have many neo-Nazi and communist friends, do you? Or just hang around on those websites..?

No, seriously, it's really easy to make those kinds of claims with zero supporting evidence.
