There is somewhat the feeling that Israel are being baited but I can't really see how that plays out - there isn't really anyone in a position to capitalise on it.

The question is whether Hamas have prepared for this - they had to know once this kicked off there was no coming back.

I mean part of me thinks this was to bait Israel into attacking Gaza so then they could try and play some kind of political victim to gain support.

Which maybe, and only maybe would have worked if they only gone after military targets.

That goes out the window the second you start setting babies on fire.

I know the chances are probably low Iran would do something as stupid as attack Israel but the chances aren't zero

I saw one of the unedited videos that a Palestinian took.

This was the video of the German girl was killed.

What shocked me more than anything else was the street was full of a couple of hundred Palestinians (only a few were Hamas) and they were screaming with excitement, striking, spitting and burning her half naked body. They were hysterical.

They're animals.

I always had some sympathy for those people. Not any more.

You cannot respond to an atrocity in which innocent civilians were murdered by committing another atrocity that murders more innocent civilians.

It seems to me that it is quite a major security failure by Israel. They have not managed to protect their border with sufficient personnel on the ground. They have already started bombing Gaza, and this is already killing/wounding many innocent people. You cannot bomb urban areas without killing and wounding innocent people. Whether they are attempting to target militants or not is irrelevant, it cannot be done without collateral casualties. It is a totally ineffective response, and something of a knee jerk reaction from the military, who has dented pride through its defensive failures. It will only stoke the fires of further militancy. Israel would be better to focus on correcting its defensive failures than to start bombing, which will kill more innocent civilians, and will achieve nothing.

It entirely depends on how Israel go about it.

A strategic invasion with collateral I don’t think many will have any complaints with.

If they go in all blitzkrieg with zero regard for the millions of civilians still living there and are targeting them, then it’s a bit different.

I’d like to think trained professionals could exercise some restraint regardless of what’s happened to “their” people.

Well, yes you can, you just have to stick to the rules of war, which Israel probably won't do, but that's another matter.
My guess is, unlike Hamas, they won't whip out their phones, take videos and post them on facebook.
