It didnt take them long - Fans fighting.

If the Englnd fan dies, the Russian will run back to Russia and be unable to be extradited. Not good.

Which is why the french investigators need to immediately be scouring through photos and video to have faces of those wanted at borders. Given they failed so miserably with the land borders during the Paris attacks, I doubt there is much hope for that.

Aren't the French police thoroughly useless though? Weren't they running across the entire country in Pugs trying to catch those Hebdo shooters?

Correct, always been the same, their security have very good resources, weapons\arms\armour etc etc and are totally useless at defending anything that attacks them, their people or the innocent from anywhere.

People really need to watch some of the Russian (and to a lesser extent French) Ultra videos that can be found online to see what these groups that are walking round are really like. No matter what the English (or other countries they hate) fans do, whether they have kids with or around them they will attack them, whether they run or fight back. That is all they are in France for. The football is a distant second and is a massive problem in Russia, you only have to look at the issues they have in the Champions/Europa league matches. How they are hosting a world cup I will never know.

And from what I have seen the French have zero idea how to handle the problems and have somehow not planned for a problem that anyone who knows anything about Russian football could see happening a mile away. Add in the issues the French have with football gangs and other groups (all the unrest about immigration/job security for the young etc) I will be amazed if this doesn't get worse in the coming weeks.

I'm a little bit surprised that the England fixture was placed in Marseille to be honest.

They know there's a hostile element in the local population that's only going to inflame the situation. Without doing any research, surely there's a venue with a lesser chance of a flashpoint. Russian ultra's and a few tanked up idiots aside, at least one of the problems could have been avoided.

I think everyone is coming to the conclusion that the French security forces are a complete shambles, look at all this and then look back at all the terrorist attacks and lack of catching them quickly in the recent months proves it, they are useless and as the poster above said, things will get worse and there is a long way to go before this competition ends.

Is that because of burning the Tunisian flag there previously?

Are you thinking of Leeds fans in Istanbul with a Turkish flag there?

In 1998 there was the infamous 'Battle of the Beach' in Marseille between England fans and local Tunisians - I don't recall any incident with a Tunisian flag though.

The French have a long proud history of being completely incompetent when it comes to security and defence

Yes. It was in the lead up to the 1998 clashes.

The UEFA Executive Committee has warned both football associations that – irrespective of any decisions taken by the independent disciplinary bodies relating to incidents inside the stadium – it will not hesitate to impose additional sanctions on the Football Association (FA) and the Russian Football Union (RFS), including the potential disqualification of their respective teams from the tournament, should such violence occur again.

I like how we are always painted as hooligans but you look at the rest of Europe who are considerably worse than us. Polish/Russian/Turkish fans at games are insane. Look at parts of Italy, where our fans travel to Naples and get stabbed by local nut jobs. We get drunk and loud but we are no way as bad as some other nations. We get caught up in it a lot of the time by other nations kicking off. Typical "England fans are scum" comments as I come to expect. We are nothing like these other groups.
