Well if it were me I'd want to, regardless of that, I had private treatment in mind. If a cost could be assertained.

If it was your child NOT getting the MRI because of a newspaper, i suspect you would be annoyed though?
I thought it had already been said that even going private, it wont get done any quicker?? Hence the other uses for the money? Hence the upset posters etc etc.

I just thought it must be possible for it to be done privately, I can't imagine rich people's children having to wait, hence asking if a cost could be found out. Surely it must be possible?

The scans are only a minor part of the issue here - after all, there are the months of after care and treatment to deal with - the major problem being paying for the mortgage when skywalker is off work.

Well, we've done that for a few months, the family can now be a family during these hard times without money problems.

Job done.
Sorted.
Happy to have contributed.
Finished.

i only put a tenner in the paypal but if thay want to use my money to buy bethany her fav pizza thats fine with me tbh
the money is there to help in any way it can not just one way

That is exactly how I feel. I donated to Bethany not for a MRI scan. If there is no immediate use for the money then place it in a high interest account for future use. :)

Probably only if you shift her treatment out of the NHS and into private 100%, which would be hundreds of thousands??

She explained to me If we got the private scan done it would have make no difference on the time scale of things as the secretary had spoken to the neurologist and had told her that the thing that also takes time was the meetings with the epilepsy team and mainly the TS expert and organising of everything to get this going and the main thing was the people that are involved in reading the scans are still NHS payroll and the scan would be looked at in fair placement as if it was still done on the NHS . The neurologist secretary told me he was amazed that that amount of money had been donated in such a short period of time that he would see if he could make her wait as short as possible as he to feel in love with young Bethany

Yep I read that post. I have no idea how much it would cost to be honest which is why I asked.

For the amount of specialists involved etc over the years i would say hundreds of thousands, which is unfortunate really.
The problem is if you transfer her out of the NHS to private, she wont be able to jump right back in where she was when she left, it will be bottom of the pile again. :(

I think the speeding up of the process is an idea that has unfortunately had to be left behind. It would have been great had we been able to speed up the process, but now the concentration must go on making the length of time as easy and as comfortable as possible for Skywalker's family. Hopefully the money will go some way to do that.

I found that it's a painful wait to have scans and get the results etc.. my next scan a couple of weeks but I have to wait until July 9th for the results, not something you want to be waiting to hear aboutif you are hoping for good news (or dreading bad news)..

Good luck to Bethany, fingers crossed - I can only partly imagine, as a parent myself, how you must be feeling :(

Ah ok :( Well the money I send can be used for anything.

Out of all the hundreds of people who have donated money to this cause, at the moment we only know ONE person (as mentioned by CleanBlueSky - no idea who this person is though) who is upset the money isn't being used to fund a private scan. As has been clarified earlier after discussion with the hospital, it's just not possible to fast track the whole process that follows the scan so it is simply not a viable option.

Regardless of this disappointment, I think I can speak for everybody else when I say that the money is to help Bethany whatever form of help that may be.

There are countless other ways in which this money can help Bethany. Whether that be to take the family on a holiday of a lifetime, or to get Pizza Hut deliver her favourite pizza every night, I'm 110% happy for the money to be used in this way.

EDIT : And when she finally works her way through the NHS treatment schedule and is on the road to recovery, I don't have any problems with her doing something like going to Hamleys and having a gigantic spending spree to celebrate!

Just managed to catch up on the current position.

Its fantastic the amount that has been raised, and a shame that there isn't a way that we can bypass the NHS waiting list. Still, I am confident that the money will be put to good use, and don't mind how it is done.

On a side not. I have updated my contact with the current position, and he still has a couple of possibilities around the current dilemma.

Skywalker, if you read this, could you confirm the name of Beth's consultant? Reason being, as if he is listed on the private list of the provider my contact works for they have said that they will speak to him about it possibly being put through them privately, we pay what we have donated and the company potentially fitting the cost of the remainder of the private treatment.

However, before people get excited this is a small possibility he has to put it forward to the rest of the board first.

If that fails, then enjoy the money as a family and maybe take Beth (if she is able to) away to Disneyland or something. I have head that its a magical place and helps take the mind off any medical problems for the duration of your stay :D
