January 9 Launch Date for AMD Radeon HD 7900

Lets be honest , these cards are overkill. I normally uprgrade my card every year but at the moment there is nothing my system cannot play at 1080p HD. Think i might wait a while and see what happens.

Depends how you define playable. If you play BF3 on Ultra preset with x4 MSAA and HBAO etc - everything full whack then you will be getting between 30-40 fps on multiplayer for some people that is not good enough so they either will upgrade or get another 6950 for xfire.

The 7970 is rumoured to be a powerful card, but - can it play Crysis? :P

SO glad I am out of the country and away from my main rig till March. Makes waiting all that more easy :D

Really want to see how the 7 series performs and what nVidia's answer is.

Lol it's ok for some I guess... It's when people start getting them and posting on here how good they are I may buckle and up it on a card :s

You're just speculating on the performance increase and as for the price:

Even worse, so you're speculating and talking down the price performance, based on nothing and Gibbo saying they'll be expensive, Gibbo hasn't said a price, does he think £275 is expensive, or £42,560 is expensive.

You have no concrete information AT ALL, in either price or performance but you are talking about them being disappointing.

yet the only information around, rumours, suggest both well below £400 pricing, and well above a 50% performance increase.... which again would still blow your "doesn't look good for price/performance" rubbish out the window.

Considering you're also taking Gibbo's statement, without a number as fact of how massively expensive it is, he's also smiling and calling it the fastest thing, but again that you choose to ignore, and post about how they won't be very good in your opinion.

You really can't have it both ways, believe the worst, ignore the best case scenario and ignore common sense on top of that.

You're wrong, you've nothing to base you speculation of price/performance having no real improvement on at all. Rumours, no, none of them agree with you, Gibbo, no numbers, no statement, just said its the fastest....that doesn't agree with you....... yet you have the balls to accuse me of speculation while making claims as to how disappointing you think they will be which flies in the face of every single rumours/leak I've seen.

What does the Primitive rate mean do you know?

£430. Jesus christ. Ill never be able to afford one. Le sigh. Guess i may as well get another 6950 then.

I would ignore those prices for now. It's likely that the retailer is just putting up pre-orders to try and tie people into a purchase even though they have no idea of the price, firm release date or even when they will be getting stock in.

How does that compare to the price of the HD 6950/70 in your country?

£ = RM * 5 roughly;

MSI R6970 Lightning 2GB GDDR5 = RM1269 / £250 no vat
MSI R6970-2PM2D2GD5 2GB GDDR5 = RM1089 / £ 200 no vat

MSI R6950 Twin Frozr III Power Edition/OC 2GB GDDR5 = RM885 / £ 180 ish no vat
MSI R6950 Twin Frozr II 2GB GDDR5 = RM875 / £ 180 ish no vat

gtx 580 lightnings officially cut off from my country, previously was £350 without vat.

That's quite scary, considering £500 is normally dual-GPU card territory.

If these are true i'll be waiting until February for the 7800s (I know I said I was getting one but I was expecting ~£300). :(
