January Transfer Window 2010/2011 Season Rumours/Signings

Well actually yes 'assuming' as the statement following it said you'd only be two points off fifth in that case which is what I was originally refering to

(By the way, do you see how I left out a full stop there? Now you can nit-pick that too and further pull discussion away from the bleak prospects of not even being able to see your team on the glitzy Thursday night line-up of Channel Five ;))

I said 3pts off 5th, not 2 :p

For some reason every time I think of Carroll now, I keep seeing Jason Lee...

He's got a piiiiineapple...

Well he hasn't really has he, he's got a ponytail which whilst being Gypsy in itself is not a pineapple on top of his head as in the case of Jason Lee.

I know, its just the way he plays reminds me of Jason Lee, which in turn gets that poxy song stuck in my head.

God knows why I think he plays like Jason Lee too, he was awful.

He sure was, a black Tony Cascarino without the skill.

Andy Carroll, Newcastle to Liverpool, £35m
Costing the same as Van Gogh's Irises, however this transfer evokes a far greater sense of impending madness and suicide in the mind of the viewer. One feels that if DH Lawrence had intended Lady Chatterley's Mellors to have been portrayed by a wookie, young Andrew would have been the result.

My good friend the Earl of Carlisle is both a keen farmer and combatant in the sport of kings and some recent accounting difficulties forced him to part with his prized Arabian to purchase a more prosaic but much-needed Shire horse. Standing as Mr Carroll does at approximately 17 hands, I trust the analogy is not lost on Liverpool's followers.

Utter, complete genius.

I love how the Liverpool fans are claiming it's going to be alright and **** happens.

If Roy Hodgson had sold Torres and bought Carroll they would have lynched him!

About the ref last night

In Lee Mason’s personal Fouls Per Booking League (for teams with a minimum of 5 matches played), for matches in the EPL, Everton come 2nd with an overall average of 13.73 FPB - with Arsenal it's 3.50FPB

Lee Mason has had 5 games for Arsenal consisting of 1 win, 2 draws and 2 losses

Lee Mason has had 11 games for Everton consisting of 6 wins, 4 draws and 1 loss

That is really rather worrying when combined with the decision last night (which they saw on the big screen and still decided to give - yes, very worrying)

why couldn't they wait until the summer?

in the summer that 35m plus an extra 10m or so would have gotten them a world class midfielder and a world class striker, not a unproven striker with a very good season.

he may prove himself to be worth it, but its a huge punt that im guessing nobody else would have taken, not even man city.

I know Liverpool now have loads of dosh, but I would still suggest that it would be nigh on impossilbe to complete the season even semi-respectively without a (sort-of) proven striker.....at this level

It would be a gamble flirting with relegation for sure (by no means definite it has to be stated) but given their over-all form ,and loss to morale - it could have been terminal.

It would be bad enough not to be in Europe, (not sure what the shirt sponsors deal would mean in this case) but to be that low down the league - it would prove a lot more difficult to attract the required players in the summer

Irrelevant now as they DID sign Carroll but certainly possible if they hadnt re-invested immediately

Saurez also isnt proven at this level - Im sure he will come good, but it could take a while for him to adjust to the physicality of the EPL (apart from him being a different type of player)

Am a I £35m striker?

I scored 24 goals helping my side win promotion back to the Premier League aged just 22.

Then in my first season in the top flight I had bagged an impressive 15 goals by the end of January. Including a goal against the reigning champions, away at Arsenal and in a home win over Liverpool. My form earned me an England call-up and my debut in an international friendly.

No I am Michael Ricketts, February 2002.

Well Ian Rush was on less than a goal/2 games and didnt score a single goal for Liverpool in the season he joined them. Didnt turn out too bad in the end though did he?

I'm sure at the end of the day that all of us can drag up a statistic to back up whichever side of the argument of whether Carroll is a good player or not, but ultimately we'll just have to wait and see. A lot of premier league managers rate him very highly. Not that I am prone to believe managers over people on an internet forum...

Happy memories singing that stood on the big bank at St James Park watching Exeter when he was playin us. It's amazing how much it used to annoy him :D

That must have been 16 years ago
